Q: Does Stack Exchange really want to conflate newbies with women/people of color?

Nicol BolasThe Stack Overflow Isn’t Very Welcoming blog post says: Too many people experience Stack Overflow as a hostile or elitist place, especially newer coders, women, people of color, and others in marginalized groups. There have been accusations of elitism against SO since time immemorial. Basic...

That's more like it.
... and whatever it is that you will be doing, team, please don't just start mass-deleting anything that might be perceived rude by someone willy nilly, like Facebook and Twitter do. While moderation has always been non-accountable (and rightly so), it's always been counter-balanced by an incredible amount of transparency and step-by-step traceability - the thing that Stack Overflow has always been getting right. If people have to be afraid their contributions will be erased unless they triple-check their tone is treading on eggshells, that's going to have a massive chilling effect. — Pekka 웃 22 hours ago
Did I mention Pekka is the coolest non-mod guy in like, ever?
Shog doesn't count

Yes I think that's the only reason. I can be so sure because I've learned some chemistry in my life. Source? What source? — Ivan Neretin 6 mins ago
This makes me happy

Is that the only reason? How can you be so sure? Do you have a source? — schrodinger_16 41 mins ago
when he said "how can you be so sure?" I thought: "you're saying it to the wrong person buddy!"
@AvnishKabaj he meant to complete by saying: "I am the source."

Just downvote it, and ask them to create a new chat room here once they get enough rep
And if you manage to find the source for the plagiarism, flag it for mod attention and link to tha original source

Q: How can we "make it easier for new users to succeed"?

dmckeetl/dr What specific policy changes or behavior changes do you think would lower the barrier to entry for new users represented by the current homework policy? This essay is in response to a recent Stack Overflow blogpost "Stack Overflow Isn’t Very Welcoming. It’s Time for That to Change.". We'...

oh boy
> Now, that’s not because most Stack Overflow contributors are hostile jerks. The majority of them are generous and kind.
that's funny
Ok, the rest of the SO blog post seems pretty good.
Seems like lowering the barrier here would be changing our HW mindset, which probably won't happen.

Q: Comparing the Hückel and extended Hückel methods

Billqaz3I'm very confused about the differences between these methods. From my textbook, it states that the Hückel method only takes into account the π bonding interactions, while the extended Hückel method takes into account all the valence electrons. But what exactly does this do? To my knowledge, the...

@santimirandarp Ok, thanks, I found it. I'm doing a bunch of scaling calculations to answer that question, and as part of it I'll reproduce the calculations from the book. By the way, if you haven't read all of that book, I highly recommend it.

There's something I saw about HW, which may or may not be interesting. Basically, if somebody is asking their HW here, then we close it. If somebody is asking about their HW here, leave it open
That's actually pretty much the same as "let's only close blatant copy pastes", which was the correct direction, but we don't seem to have stuck to it.
That blog post is good imo, although it is a lot to discuss...
