@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ you go figure
I’m just done with running a mile in 6 minutes

I have never seen a single racist remark on SE

1:16 AM
@AvnishKabaj i'll have to agree. as much as the condescending thing is popular, the racist thing certainly doesn't seem to
at least I think I should've spent more time on SO but nvm

guys guys please don't close this question as homework

Q: Ammonia to ammonium

MaryWhy does ammonia accept a hydrogen to form ammonium when its octet is already full as $\ce{NH3}$ and it should be, seemingly, stable as $\ce{NH3}$?

-----
finally some new users took a stab at those snarky comments - nice read - https://web.archive.org/web/20180427011949/https://chemistry.stackexchange.com/questions/95946/for-a-given-period-why-is-the-boiling-point-of-the-halogen-greater-than-that-of
The coincidence with that SO blog post about being nice is strong
Do people feel good about being jackasses in comments? A lot of that on the chemistry site here. — oldchemist 1 hour ago
If a 71 rep user says that, i think it's time for some self-reflection
(hopefully oldchemist's comment wasn't directed at Matthew, doesn't seem to be)

Q: Does the mixture of a ligand exchange reaction contain all the complexes obtained in the part reactions?

Rix ViiA ligand exchange reaction involves many part reactions. So, does the mixture contain all the complexes from those part reactions? Quoting an example from ChemGuide: This can be written as an equilibrium reaction to show the overall effect: $$\ce{[Cu(H2O)6]^2+ + 4NH3 <=> [Cu(NH3)4(H2O)2...

@GaurangTandon Ivan Neretin
@GaurangTandon Anyway it's been answered in the comments

2:42 AM
@AvnishKabaj that's not how SE is supposed to work; answers belong to the answer box

Why do K+ and Na+ displace hydrogen and form the ion pair

Just wondering, why was this question put on hold? It seems perfectly legitimate to me. chemistry.stackexchange.com/questions/95899/ammonia-to-ammonium

@Frank because folks didn't like it, I guess
We do have a problem of closing stuff we don't like
Not that common though
Also, welcome to chat!
@JavaScriptCoder that's really hard to do on the bottom of the ocean
You deserve a gold badge
"Superfeet" or "777 unstoppable" or somesuch
Ha, "testosterone-driven"
@GaurangTandon that's not what I call a stab
It's just as jackassy as the comment it refers to -- it's meant to be an anti-community "this is too hopeless to address appropriately" remark

@GaurangTandon it was so unfair to close it.
Homework close reason is being misused now.

@Abcd No shit Sherlock :p
@GaurangTandon you doing that line thing is multiline is annoying
Just do it like this

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ i was tying to separate the context of my previous msg from the next one :/
@Frank hey Frank, don't worry. it's been nominated for reopening by two votes. once it gets five, it'll be reopened. thanks!
i agree the close is unjustified
@AvnishKabaj good question; i don't have the answer atm
they somehow just do :/

12:30 PM
uh, I hate it when users answer homework stuff

Q: Balancing the oxidation of C3H8O3 by permanganate anion

MariaI have done an experiment and this is what reaction I got but I need help balancing the reaction$$\ce{MnO4^- + C3H8O3 + H+ -> MnO2 + CO2 + H2O }$$

@permeakra True, that's why this is not an answer, but a mere comment. — Ivan Neretin 2 hours ago
could some 10k+ member please tell him that that's not what the comment boxes are for?
this is probably the second or third time I'm reading the exact same excuse
the "comment box" is very actively mistaken to be a "commentary on the question", rather than its actual purpose, "a suggestion box" instead
-----
this guy took nearly half an year to ask his second question :-O

Zhe
1:13 PM
@GaurangTandon I still have not asked a second question.

@Zhe oh :P

Q: What to do with (large) imaginary frequencies for constrained minimum structures?

YodaI am performing DFT calculations using ORCA 4.0.1 on an enzyme active site model. The model contains 89 atoms including the substrate (see Animation 1), five of which are fixed in space (the spherical atoms in Animation 1). I am using dispersion-corrected B3LYP with 6-31g(d,p) basis set, with the...

@GaurangTandon ok
Not even closely related. — schrodinger_16 1 hour ago
Always edgy

2:45 PM
@AvnishKabaj well the close votes probably annoyed him the last time so...anyway, let it be like that, I didn't take offence
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ you're probably right, though I think it was about time this was addressed
Anyway, whichever mod deleted that comment of Ivan, should've deleted the thread below it as well, and added an explanation for that. Those comments lying out there now make no sense. Fwiw, I'm glad that question didn't make it to the HNQ. Phew!

4:12 PM
@AvnishKabaj that said, I wonder if my comment is really out of place? Why aren't both the questions related?

5:06 PM
@Zhe your q on le chat was good though

Zhe
@JavaScriptCoder That's why I asked it. The embarrassing part was that I really just couldn't remember the answer, and I even gave it as a question on a homework assignment once.
But you can't search for that on the internet because there are so many BS answers about heat being a reactant or such

5:22 PM
the internet sucks. Chem.SE is good.

Zhe
well for chem
And don't even get me started on the wikipedia page on kinetic isotope effects

just read it
want to puke now

8:59 PM
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ probably nothing useful, as usual

@GaurangTandon ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

10:12 PM
@GaurangTandon This OP is idiot, just this.
@JavaScriptCoder If this is good, then I don't wanna know bad...

10:31 PM
@GaurangTandon I meant do the line in a separate message

@Mithoron Zhe gave some examples
11 errors

11:41 PM
@JavaScriptCoder I didn't ask you. Also if you think minor details on Wikipedia are bad side of internet... then it's better we don't discuss it.
