12:10 AM
@M.A.Ramezani!

1:03 AM
@santiago: Hey , how re u doing?

1:41 AM
hmmm why does Xenon have an electronegativity?
hi @Onthewaytosuccess

Pauling electronegativity is based on thermochemical data of compounds, so an element needs to combine with other atoms for it to be determined

Very well, ron did a good job at answering that

@NicolauSakerNeto I got a bit carried away with my answer here chemistry.stackexchange.com/questions/18524/…
@NicolauSakerNeto yes, marvellous answer!

1:53 AM
how have you been @NicolauSakerNeto

I'm okay, and you?

not too bad
a bit tired, but okay

But it's close to noon where you are!

true, it has been a long 48 hours

Haven't slept in that long? You should get rest

1:57 AM
i have had scattered sleep

Or I suppose you have slept, just been a rough time

especially after the sad news about my uncle

I heard
You should probably focus on resting rather than being on Chem.SE, can always come back later
Even if it is addictive

it's a bit of a release being here

1:59 AM
i can focus my mind on answering questions, stirring @M.A.Ramezani etc

Well, I hope you return to nominal operational parameters soon

that assumes I have ever had nominal operational parameters - I am quite strange

As long as you keep doing your thing, it's fine

that be true

Hey anybody out there ?
??
No one

2:04 AM
not sure if we are out there, but I and most likely @NicolauSakerNeto is way in here

lol
Hey,I have one question regarding bounty
why can't I donate those reputation
??

348
Q: How does the bounty system work?

A. Rex What is a bounty? What is the "Featured" tab on the homepage? How can I search for questions that have a bounty attached? How do I start a bounty? When can I start a bounty? How long is the bounty period? How do I award a bounty? Can I award a bounty to my own answer? Can I award a bounty to an ...

hey @santiago . but I am unable to award that bounty . Because that bounty tab doesn't work
Why is that?

what bounty, where?

Q: How can I figure out whether a reaction is endothermic or exothermic without its enthalpy value?

On the way to successI already know the way to determine whether if the given reaction is exothermic or endothermic by the enthalpy values. But is it possible without enthalpy values, and just by looking at the reaction? So as far as I know there are two types of chemical reactions, namely one way reactions and reve...

??

2:15 AM
just below the comments, there is text that says "start a bounty" - that's a button and it is self explanatory from there
oh wait a second
I see that the top answer got +25
that is auto-awarded due to the bounty time period expiring

no, that is not a button
it is an indication that half the bounty has been auto-awarded

But if I want to awrd the bounty
Don't I need to click it
??

If you take more than eight days to award a bounty, it is done automatically for you and it can't be changed

you can't after the expiry date has passed

2:20 AM
It means its expired
But then remaining 25

Bounty Ended with albapa's answer chosen by Community♦ occurred 36 mins ago

the 25 remaining is lost into the ether

ether it is an organic compund
as i know
xd
So 25 reputations are wasted ?

If the bounty is not awarded after 8 days (7 days + 1 day grace period), half will be awarded to the highest rep answer (of 2 or more upvotes) automatically

then other half

2:23 AM
bounties, once given, are permanently taken from your rep balance

non refunable
?

non refundable indeed

no part of a bounty is refunded nor refundable

okay I got it
so hw the life is?

2:25 AM
progressing ever forward

you aer postdoc
not aer is are

nope

private researcher/consultant
currently not working to full capacity due to the accident last year

Oh
feel sorry

2:27 AM
nah, nothing to feel sorry about - am making a great recovery

great
u re currently in AUS
\right

yes

4 hours later…
6:08 AM
This is so true and so sad at the same time:
This is how I spend most of my time. If you want to do research, you have to be prepared to be disappointed on regular basis. The state-of-the-art usually is what it is for good reasons. Many of your ideas won't work, or won't work as well as you hope. Research isn't like in the movies, where some savant improves an entire field just by having a quick glance over the problem. — Marc Claesen yesterday

6:26 AM
@Martin-マーチン So, should I hang myself?

nope...
that would be a bad idea

I'm all about bad ideas.

6:42 AM
Well, well, well...
sometimes you just have to have bad ideas
sometimes some good ideas don't hurt

@Martin-マーチン That's an always for me.

What's going on at your end of the world?

#Volleyballhype

Tell me more...
I don't know anything about professional volleyball

The world league has begun.
So you see @Martin, volleyball groups are different from football.

6:45 AM
Is it national teams?

yes, explain :D

In football/soccer, in the world league, groups contain two tough teams, two soft teams and the rest are softer.
In volleyball, two groups are damn damn damn tough, containing the best Earth can offer.
The third group is soft.

Hmm... I don't think there is a world league for soccer...

The fourth is softer.
@Martin-マーチン There must be something like it. Maybe the nomenclature differs.
So as I was saying, Iran is in Pool B, one of the two toughest pools.
We have to deal with USA, RUS and. POL.
For more info, upvote one of my questions.
Gotta go, Cya @Martin!

6:49 AM
Haha... I prolly will
yes see you!

7:07 AM
hi @Martin-マーチン

Good afternoon! What's up?

just hobbled home in a thunder-hail-storm
neighbours laughed - I will remember when they need some coding done

So are you all dried up?
Hangon... hail?
Big ones?

not too big, have small cuts on my face and hands, am dried now

oww...
is it common in oz at that time of year

7:17 AM
no, this is wierd for here - dry season!
well, on to more awesome things - how is it feel to be the MOD!?

well, it doesn't feel that different
i have to be more careful about whatever i do

by the way, i got carried away again chemistry.stackexchange.com/questions/18524/…
@Martin-マーチン have you got the keys to the executive bathroom yet?

I just cannot flag things anymore, since anything i do becomes active straight away

the power!

With great power comes great responsibility... i guess
haha... yeah the bathroom... marble floor...
gold sink

7:22 AM
woah!

there is a guy who dries the hands for you
and it smells like lavender with roses
;)

before or after use?

always O.o It's magic

spooky!
i am thinkin gmy answer chemistry.stackexchange.com/questions/18524/… needs more colour

i think it's alright

7:42 AM
o/

Hello
how are you @hipp?

Fine, thanks :D

woot

7:58 AM
Owww... that's a lot of coding done there...

that's pretty impressive

Robjohn is always impressive :D

mine is a dignified chemical kind of colourful
sort of
damn thunderstorm
the hail I was caught in has given me noticeable cuts on both hands (left hand in particular), below my left eye, my left eye was bleeding and lip and bridge of nose.... worse though, my leg-caliper looks like it has been pelted too

Take care of yourself...

i'll be right

8:22 AM
@santiago When you edit a question it would be great if you look out for buzzwords, such as question, help, problem... and remove them from the titles... that would be great

true - it sometimes slips my mighty mind

answer plz fast I need helpppp plz !!!!!

no problems... just a kind reminder...
well in that case, I bet the system takes care of that soon
@Hippalectryon HALP!!!

8:49 AM
hi

Hi @PH13
Welcome and how are you?

thank you, fine ... everyone else too?

I am doing great
santiago had to suffer through a hail storm

Most time I fail to enter the right words to search if questions have already been answered or not. Can you tell me if there is some sort of an unwritten "rule" which questions are too old to be answered?

so maybe it's just us two at the moment
There is no rule...
sometimes when questions are old and unanswered they might be too hard to answer
or just not asked very well
what kind of question do you have?

9:01 AM
there are some ph related questions that i guess are too boring for the most

@PH13 Oh and don't worry about not finding the right questions... sometimes you just have to be around to know that this question has already been answered
Not all of these questions are boring
If it's homework or exercise questions make sure to include your attempt

of course

well then just go ahead and ask...

it's not about asking, it's about answering :D

oh sorry i misunderstood
well if you find a question that has no or not a good answer you can of course go ahead and answer them...
you might even get a badge

9:06 AM
is there one for answering questions from ancient times? :D

Yes a bronze one: revival
and a silver one necromancer
you can get them multiple times ;)

that's perfect ... necromancer was always a favorite character in games

should the answers be specific to the supposed/shown knowledge of the questioner or more general with derivations ... even if that covers the way that the questioner might have taken to arrive to equations he used?

Whatever you deem more fitting. depends on the case
I usually prefer a more conceptual approach, that can be applied to more problems

9:16 AM
hi

hi
@Martin-マーチン ok ... then I will see what I can do

@PH13 Great! Have fun!

hmmm what could be handy... a meta post listing the buzzwords that could be removed

@santiago yeah... good one
@santiago what do you mean?

sort of a guide of buzzwords to look out for

9:29 AM

Q: Buzzwords in question titles - season 4 & 5 - experiments and exercises

Martin - マーチンI was looking for a pun in the question title, but was unable to find one. So instead let us remember the previous seasons: I question the use of "question" in question titles (search here) Help make help questions have more helpful titles (search here) Houston, we have a "Problem" in question ...

like that?

ys! that was fast!

it's in my link list ;)
You can just go and dive in there and start removing these nasty buzz words
but don't do too many at once...
and when you find a question with a low score, then it might be better to flag close and remove - on a case by case basis of course

Question on a problem with my experiment exercice - HELP FAST PLZ

HALP!!!111111
1st comment ten minutes later: y u no halp me???

everi minute you no help me a kitten dies :/

9:36 AM
good, kittens spread the pestilence of cuteness

awwww

neko neko

10:07 AM
hey
no one out here?

Plenty of people to go around
How are you?

doing good

I'm in here, not out there... for out there, there is hail and windy monsters

oh , I am little bit scary

nah, unusual storm here

10:15 AM
Then Be cautious

oh I already copped a hammering... got caught in the storm

What's the time there

8:17pm

here 3.48 pm
5 h diff

10:18 AM
@Martin - マーチ: Where you reside ?

one of the rare half hour time zones...
currently japan

there time?

@Martin-マーチン is timeless

lol
any of you guys like sports

10:23 AM
doing or watching?

any
may be both

I do walking (when I can)

@santiago O_o wow. You're strong. I can't even do that

Good for cardio
@Martin - マーチ

@Hippalectryon especially as I have calipers on my legs

10:27 AM
Well I occasionally enjoy extended walks and a bit of running and a bit of biking
but i love watching football/ soccer

any of you hit the gyn

I don't follow any sport though

But sports are good for health
And it probably calm ur mind too

watching them bores me, so I do walking (in my case limping, wearing calipers for 4-10km)

@santiago: That sounds great

10:30 AM
I have no choice about the calipers

metal braces supporting my feet, ankle, shin and knees
but @Martin-マーチン has superpowers!

You had an injury

yup car accident a little while back

no superpowers here...

10:33 AM
modesty

Anyhow it's great to know you are still in good conditions

oh yes, no accident is going to stop me

great
but still you want to be cautious

@Martin-マーチン good call on chemistry.stackexchange.com/questions/33279/… - i can't quite get what the question is either

Oh, a complete rework of the question... great when the system works :D
2

10:39 AM
then what would be the difference between atomic orbitals and molecular orbitals

@Martin-マーチン that is star worthy

I am just amusing myself with that rant... this is great stuff

it is great isn't it? I have weighed in in the comments
one can see that I am trying to help

10:54 AM
Yeah I saw a part of that.

That guy is insanely rude

Yeah there are quite a few f-bombs between the lines...

yup

what are f-bombs??

bad, bad words

11:02 AM
another case of a new user wanting SE to conform to them and is literally stunned that it won't

okay
anyway who is the guy that rude insanely

see above, the post that santiago linked
someone who had troubles in finding out how the system works

randi robert
is the person?

that's the one, yes
I see potential in his 2 Stack Overflow questions

who cares those people

11:09 AM
i try to help, but really, it is their problem

yes of course,

words from strangers on the internet have no effect on me

you said that to me?

nope, it is about people like that Randi

So how was the day
??

1 hour later…
12:26 PM
hello...

hi
How are you

great going..
btw thanks for helping me out to resolute my question.
your comments were really helpful to get my thinking straight.
@Martin - マーチン

No problem, glad I could help
I think your question will get reopened soon
I'll have an eye on that

thanks again @Martin - マーチン

sure thing, I am here to help
hi @Jan! Working late again?

Jan
12:36 PM
It's only half past three atm xD
Hi @Martin-マーチン

Haha... Sorry, of course it is
I went home early today, so i did not pay attention to the time

Jan
I want to do that today, too.
(Early being sixish … ^^')

Sounds great...
went home at nine...
but only came in noon, so that's not too bad

Hi everyone!
Congrats @Martin-マーチン

Thank you :D and Hi!

12:46 PM
So here's an interesting/stupid question.
Why are most ionic compounds brittle?

i think the crystal structure is important for that one

Probably, but how?
And why are so many of them brittle?

Because they are highly ordered, so they usually break at points wher there are defects

12:50 PM
(I can't name an ionic compound off the top of my head that is malleable/ductile)

but I am not so sure about that

I think I'm going to post on Stack Exchange proper.

that is a good idea, i bet there is someone out there having a good understanding about that
It's an interesting question
I earlier read, that you joined and answered questions to gain rep for a bounty?
Did it work out?

Q: What happens if a polymer's length is equal to its persistence length?

Breaking BioinformaticsSo, I've been looking into polymer chemistry to model breaking polymers for a biological model, and I've been a bit stumped by the concept of persistence length. I know that if a polymer is significantly longer than its persistence length, it needs to be treated as though the ends are completely...

^That's the question I answered questions for.

Jan
I remember seeing a picture about that somewhere @BreakingBioinformatics

12:56 PM
Well, you got advise from an expert there
glad you are staying :D

Heheheheheh.
Yeah.
Thomij was very patient.

He writes good answers

Q: Why are so many ionic compounds brittle?

Breaking BioinformaticsEven when ionic compounds are strong (e.g. rubies and sapphires), they are neither malleable nor ductile in the slightest, and if sufficient stress is put on them, they will shatter, not bend. Why is that?

@Martin-マーチン I gathered. XD

I learned something from that post too
I learned about persistence length in uni, but I did never really understand and after I went into a different field, I forgot
