12:01 PM
Nope. I'm planning on becoming a pharmacist or a doctor, and @Martin plans on losing his hair being the world's first chemist to have played minesweeper for 190000 hours.

lol @Martin plans on losing his hair.
Hey how do you cut that thing
I mean that word losing hair?

I am not planning that, i just happens

Well, he doesn't, but his calculations do.

and i just looked... there is no minesweeper on my computer :(

Why o why?!

12:03 PM
Haha... i will activate that now
i love minesweeper
it is a time killer...

What is minesweeper

A game. A windows game.

What type of game?

I like it too, it's simple logical game

@Mithoron Ya know, I was a whiz in it some time ago.
I don't think I'm as fast now.

12:06 PM
Aha. this is the one you talking about
I did play it long time ago

Hullo @Jan!

Like 5 yrs back

Jan
@Martin-マーチン It's actually the pre-stage to paradise, as you may know ;)

And he didn't believe it when I said it was underworld.

@Jan Not so sure about that...
I have to admit you make nice sausages though

Jan
12:09 PM
@Martin-マーチン See here ;)

Haha... I almost soiled my pants...

@Jan : Hello

Jan
Shame you didn't hear about that before xD
Hi @Onthewaytosuccess

@Jan: Where you from?

Underworld.

12:13 PM
Lol

Haha... had to play minesweeper...
windows was able to ruin even that game...
O.o

@Martin-マーチン Whaddya know, they're experts.

Hey, if I just close the window would I be able to off from here?

You could press the leave button.

12:18 PM
Window mean the window in the browser. Not the ones in the wall
Now I am leaving,tho had a good time here. Bye all of you

Bye!

Jan
I rise from a coffin every evening. nodnod

Are you dracula?

Haha... the undead @Jan

Jan
12:23 PM
No, I'm not that old (yet). (Plus he's Romanian, isn't he)

Are there any famous bavarian vampires?
I mean there are a lot of blood suckers down there ;)

Jan
I remember Willy Astor did a whole story about the Bavarian vampire … =D

@Martin-マーチン Yes, you're chatting with one right now.
Juts don't$\ldots$ give him your address.

Jan
Haha, I might come back on that one if I actually manage to grab a postdoc position in Japan xD

Huh... A normal day of people whining about downvotes in meta.SE$\ldots$

12:30 PM
HUllo!

Jan
Is it anything important that warrants showing up in meta to downvote their whine?

Hullo!

Jan
Hi @Levy

Hi! @Jan

@Jan It apparently is.

12:31 PM
They had returned all that votes.

Jan
Oh wait … meta.SE, not meta.chem.SE Nah, that’s too far away for me to go there.

@Levy Who returned what?
BTW interesting: Chem.SE constituent earners' #: 55 Bio.SE constituent earners' #: 50

yesterday at 3:00 AM I voted about 10 answer and 15 question of you, about 170 rep.

What? I don't remember anything.
Why did you do that? Are you nuts?

for fun.
I was flying after that sweeter than honey victory.

12:36 PM
OK don't do it again.

Guess which badge I am going to earn next.

Gold tag badge.

Wow!

Jan
Do the tour, get informed ;)

12:38 PM
You stunned me.

@Levy This can easily be seen as serial voting and may be reversed

@Martin-マーチン It was reversed.

Haha...
no harm no fowl

I didn't even know it happened.
He came in and told me.
AND HE MADE ME LOOK AT MY REP TAB. Such mischief!

haha...
Well it looks strange there, but it's just like it never happened

Jan
12:40 PM
Let's pretend it never happened x3

If @Levy tries it again, and if he makes me look at my rep tab again, I'm gonna get him suspended.

OK, I won't do it again.

BTW @Levy we have the big two matches ahead: Poland vs. Iran!
These two simply determine whether if we advance to the next round.

again , we finished the last set and earned the last score by a serve.
yeah,it will.
I think we can do that.

Stats say we can, but I'm worried.

12:43 PM
And Russia

Hmm . . .

That's much easier.

Jan
I do wonder just how much one can 'support' one person's answers/questions before the vote getting reversed …

@Jan They never reveal it, for obvious reasons.

Jan
This calls for an experiment!

12:46 PM
No it doesn't!
Just leave me outta it.

Jan
> In the end, the experiment is the gold standard for the theory. (tschoppi)

I wanna see @Martin get vote reversal.

Jan
Also, isn’t it nice when one gets a beautiful HSQC back from the NMR department lady rather than having relied on the autosampler, not knowing that something's busted in the 500 MHz magnet, and getting an unphaseable spectra?

No, it isn't nice.
@Levy I expected Lucarelli to be the best spiker.

12:52 PM
The number of spikes are more , but the percentage of success is less.

I hope we advance to the next round. I wanna see Brazil vs. Iran. OH MAN OH MAN!

@M.A.Ramezani Is France any good ?

WOW $\ldots$ is Aus really that good?!
@Hippalectryon That's a good team.

me too.
I'm sure that we will advance with USA.

Sure?
I have to see the third game with Poland first and then decide.

12:56 PM
Can Poland win USA?

Those don't matter.
Poland vs. Iran is the only game that matters.
Or the two games.
The first game in Tehran is very very important.
If we win that, chances are we'll advance.
And Poland can win the USA.
But again, we can beat Russia here.

USA won the Poland twice.

So the last matches don't really matter.
@Levy In the US.

That is not important.

That's very important.

12:59 PM
Poland won the Iran 3-2 in Poland.

That could be relevant.
I'm still not risking the decision.

WE are really in tough group.
The toughest.

Yes.

We only miss Brazil.
@Hippalectryon Thumbs up I forgot, which pool is France in?
Huh?
Oh, C.

1:01 PM
Nevermind it's D (France, Japan, Korea,C Republic.)

Tell me about your team in Baku 2015?

@Hippalectryon You must have won them.
@Hipp poor Iran is in pool B.
(IRI, RUS, POL, USA)
Lest you know, pools A and B are the toughest.
The world's best teams.

France won all its 8 games.

@Levy It will surely advance to the next round.

Owww darn... how did it get so late O.o
@Jan I know the feeling...

1:04 PM
@Martin-マーチン You tell me!

@Levy We still have 4 more

Jan
@Martin-マーチン I also know that feeling xD

@Hippalectryon Doesn't matter.

Jan
What's your timezone, @Martin-マーチン? UTC+9?

UTC+carbanion

1:05 PM
I think so...

Jan
UTC+Fluorine.

Jan
About the time I would be leaving the lab, assuming a normal day xD

Well, I am still at the office...

Oh, so it's Uranium Technetide complex trapped in fluorine?

1:07 PM
Organic chemists always work to hard...

Will they announce the new mods tomorrow? @M.A.Ramezani

@Levy Yeppie!

OMG election end tomorrow O.o

Jan
Brb bringing a sample to the NMR o/

@Levy Tomorrow we'll learn that @M.A.Ramezani has jailed all the participants and declared himself ruler of ChemSE :D

1:08 PM
@Hippalectryon What? Delete that message! Akh, I knew I shouldn't have told you.

Everyone gets horse ice cream as a consolation prize anyway :c

Horse ice cream?

@Levy you be fasting?

@M.A.Ramezani What's a spike btw ?

1:10 PM
No, I won't do it again.

Sidao from Brazil (the yellow guy) is going to spike.

@Martin-マーチン Horse flesh ice cream, available in Japan :3

thank god no...

LordStryker HAS ARRIVED!
WHAT IS UP MY HOMIES?
er, good morning :)

Hullo @Lord!

1:15 PM
o/ Straika sama!

quick bow Martin-sama-san

;) that's redundant

very honorabru

true indeed
I have a question for you
you do use chemcraft?

For who?

1:17 PM
For the Lord

Kneels

I love ChemCraft

Have you ever encountered this error

let me guess, floating point?
er yeah that one
I get it in many variations.

You know what to do?

1:19 PM
Usually in conjunction with a formatted chk file or some other thing

Freak out?

It's just a simple pm6 scan

I do not unfortunately. I think its a bug. I've been meaning to email Grigory about it but I keep putting it off
If you email him, he could probably fix it in like 48 hours

Just send him the output file
hang on i'll run a quick pm6 scan and see what i can see

1:20 PM
well, i might do that tomorrow...

Jan
Great image =D
So that's salami-flavoured ice-cream, more or less.

Well, it's a true statement

Jan
bows down to the @LordStryker

Hey @Jan, did that paper help you any?

Jan
It reminds me of 'The program could not be executed because .' (mind the space)

1:21 PM
BTW @Lord we beat US 3-nil for the second time.
@Jan That's mind the gap. Ever played Temple Run?

Oh well congratulations!

Thanks!

Jan
@LordStryker One thing I'm definitely going to do is put it on our group's server so they know what they're going to quote if they're gonna use samarium iodide. Other than that I had a chat with my advisor on Friday and I'll try an aldol with LiHMDS before I do any fancy Sm-Grignard ^^

Sounds like progress :)
@Martin-マーチン I just ran a simple PM6 scan across an H2 separation, no error...
I'm using ChemCraft 1.7 build132

Yarp...
I have the same...
well...
I think i am goning to spend some time reproducing that error...

1:25 PM
Logical conclusion: Chemcraft doesn't like @Martin.

Jan
That it's a true statement only makes the error message funnier ;)

What version of g09?

waaaaa
you are asking questions...
hang on

Gussian 09?

Jan
+a

1:26 PM
@M.A.Ramezani what version of g09
or more specifically, what revision

OK OK.

G09-RevD.01 here

Jan
I love Gaussian's quotes at the end of jobs~

Steve Jobs?

EM64L-G09RevD.01

1:27 PM
weird

so that's also the same
I guess it's the type of job

@Martin's making @Lord jealous.

@M.A.Ramezani huh?

You do want to see that error!
But you can't.

1:28 PM
Stupid program doesn't give errors.

I have another quite strange thing...

A sausage?
Minesweeper's old version?

I am running an IRC... then running an optimisation with the same settings, reading guess and geom and suddenly no SCF convergence O.o???

Jan
Stars are aligned.

what do the SCF energies look like? oscillating? exploding?

1:31 PM
Dunno, lol
i was pissed and just trashed it :D
Hang on i'll check
looks like slight oscillation
I switched to xqc and gave a couple of more cycles

Jan
Hm. The enantiopure compound does not have an experimental density on SciFinder. I measure 0.8425. Experimental for the racemate is 0.8258 (both g/mol). Good or bad?

That means someone's going to die.

Jan
Oh w/e. Not even gonna quote that anyway. Bulletin des Societes Chimiques Belges from 1924. Article not found. Not even gonna try. We also have two Russian language journals which I don't trust either xD.

oooooo coffee is done!

Thank @santiago.

1:44 PM
Fun Fact: LordStryker keeps his office dark and works by the glow of a lamp and two monitor screens.

Lol... n3rd!
@LordStryker any clue why this might happen?

Oh, I do that too.
Except I'm not in an office.

Well, did your IRC finish properly?

Should I have read the density, too?
good point
no it did not
geometry did not converge

There you go :)

1:46 PM
but scf did

I'd take a geometry near the end of the IRC and not the final geom and opt that
your irc borked something big time

so since it is the same geometry, the same guess, why did it not do what i want
lol
yeah i guess so...
i like irc only a little bit...

Whoa$\ldots$ are all of the chemists like this?
:]

IRC is great but only when it works. It hardly ever works for me.

I have another question @LordStryker
:D

1:48 PM
I find that the default IRC approach, while great and all, tends to fail a lot due to all the 'improvements' they made in the method.

Do you know any program that can do a conformational analysis

I've found using some of the less-efficient non-default methods work.

I don't know of any program that can do that.

I always use GS2
old algorithm, slow but reliable

1:49 PM
If you mean a program that searches all possible conformations

yes, thats what i meant

there's MD but that isn't systematic

not necessarily all, but some local minima around a starting minima

@Martin-マーチン Do you know if Chemcraft handles TD-DFT output files at all?
(I've never done a td-dft job before)

define handle

1:50 PM
as in, shows me the td results

you can open them and you have a spectrum present i think

oh okay

should work

the part by which a thing is held, carried, or controlled :3

long time i did that, but i the only other programs i use are molden and gopenmole

1:52 PM
Well I'm entering new territory here. Trying the TD(50-50) analysis. Have no idea what to expect.

But I remember the output of gaussian being fairly well organised
what's that? never heard of it

"Solve for half triplet and half singlet states. Only effective for closed-shell systems."

Yeah, just checked
If i have to use td, then i usually have open shell any way
:'(

Soooo, i'm looking at a spectrum. I see wavelength and f

Okay... I am hungry now... time to go home...

1:54 PM
No idea what this means with respect to singlet and/or triplet excitations
\o see ya Martin :)

Oooh drama$\ldots$ Grab popcorn:
15
Q: How can we empower per-site mods to more efficiently dispose of network spammers?

Tim PostHere's the problem, in a nutshell: Glancy T. Pony is a mod on our mayonnaise site, and wakes up in the afternoon to find that her site has been littered by Miracle Whip astroturfers. As Glancy cleans up the mess, she notices that many of these spammers have accounts on multiple sites, w...

Jan
@M.A.Ramezani Boring.

For a demon.
You get inside it, see comments and answers popping up every minute, and then decide if it's boring or not.

@M.A.Ramezani
Maybe you had seen this.
I liked that very much,especially when he'd talked about relationship between Iran ad USA.

Jan
2:11 PM
Anyways I'm off. Gonna hear a talk on NHCs. o/

@Jan n-heterocyclic carbenes??
I've had NHCs forced down my throat in the past year since working for this dept.

2:47 PM
@Levy Heh. I've seen that 50 years ago.
