@AIQ I'd actually lean towards including the info - to a certain extent you're supposed to be using the cover letter to "brag"

@AIQ It will probably help a bit, and certainly won't hurt as long as you don't overdo it. What would help a lot though is getting in touch with your old supervisor and asking if they could forward your application to HR internally (ideally with a personal recommendation, if you think they'd be inclined to do that for you).

The ED/Minister would be even better recommendations if you can get them.
