7:19 AM
Ah @motosubatsu I know you missed me

3 hours later…
10:00 AM
@Twyxz desperately

Morning everyone..

2 hours later…
12:04 PM
@motosubatsu Knew it! This organisation I work for could be the most confusing yet
So the HR woman said I might not be staying then my manager said her manager said we're staying doing an apprenticeship but HR do the apprenticeships.. I'm confused

12:53 PM
@Twyxz geez.. don't know their arse from their elbow that lot
I'd just keep looking and reiterate to them that if they want you to stay they need to get something actually concrete infront of you

@VarunAgw This was discussed back then also. See here.
Out of curiosity, what happened to that upstaged by unpopular intern question? Was it deleted because of being a troll post? I don't have a problem with that, on the contrary, but I also noticed in the past that other, also obvious troll questions were kept and edited, e. g. the infamous using some antiquated console text editors (vim and emux, I think) and others. That's why I'm curious.

1:38 PM
@motosubatsu That's what I just said in my 1-2-1, I had fun in the snow with the Clio at the weekend my god it was slippy

@Twyxz didn't have any real snow my way at the weekend
although on the slippy front... still a sore subject after the whole asshole-drove-into-my-car-and-bailed debacle last week

1:57 PM
@motosubatsu It was terrible up here, took me 3 hours to get home on the A1 because some 1 series couldn't get through the snow properly and was driving 20 mph on a usual 70mph stretch
and I couldn't overtake because the overtaking lane was just too dangerous to drive in

@Twyxz 1-ers are shite in the snow

I saw about 3 or 4 of them with hazards in the hard shoulder that night hahaha
the Leon was pretty good in the snow, so is the Clio
@RichardU Evening boss.

@Twyxz How goes it. I'm just catching up on the notices here. another rep-cap day for me... standard really.

I'm still on 0
Going through my phase of stagnation where I don't post for a few months

Speaking of snow, our governor in the People's Republic of New Jersey is spreading so much salt, after getting pantsed by the first snow storm, that just entering the state raises your blood pressure by 10 points to the diastolic.
@Twyxz I'm too obnoxious to go that long without posting.
Misery loves company and I am more than willing to share.

2:09 PM
I'm like 70 points from 10k
My original goal was 10k by the end of the year
so I got time right

@Twyxz don't be afraid to jump in. Remember, bonus points are awarded for being surly.

Meh.. nothing worth answering at the minute

@motosubatsu yeah, a bit bland. So, who's going to be foolish enough to run for moderator this time around?

@RichardU no idea tbh

@motosubatsu ur input will be appreciated workplace.stackexchange.com/questions/128173/…
hello @RichardU good day

2:35 PM
@Nofel g'day.
@Nofel did you like my edit? Did I get the gist of what you were trying to say?

yes @RichardU thank you.
One think I forgot to mention, he stayed with me and wanted me to show what I was working on.
and I was more confused while my code was commented.

@Nofel sounds to me like you have his interest, not his scorn

i didnt get that
what u mean

@Nofel If he stayed around to have you show him what you were working on, it means he was interested in what you were doing. If he was angry with you, he'd have just rebuked you and walked off. People don't waste time with people they think are useless.

well he wanted to see what I was doing or I was just bluffing
although I don't bluff, he went away after seeing, picking some mistake.

2:48 PM
@Nofel perhaps, but the upshot was that he confirmed that you were working and he helped you get back on track.

I am very slow learner @RichardU I need tutorial and reinforcement to get me through
sometimes I am very fast when I connect things in real life

I once worked in a place where our group was hated, and we had to deal with so many people falsely reporting on us to the point where a director came and spied on us himself. I saw him out of the corner of my eye, smiled and said "Hi Frank! How are you?" and treated it as a visit, not a spying mission.

e.g I never got CSS position ever, until few months back. I tried to remember it with Radio and channeling the channel

@Nofel I'm slow too, until I'm not. It sounds like you learn like I learn.... you don't get it until you get it all.
Quit worrying about speed.

I was shocked with blazing knowledge I remember it now, difference, I was able to do a layout in just 1 day
and 9 yrs I struggle to remember this

2:52 PM
@Nofel your whole problem comes down to the fact that you second guess yourself too much.
I know, I did the same thing.
This is why I know what you're doing before you do. :D

hifive
I remember things with metaphor
I never remember JSON.stringy or JSON.parse in my last job
then I just had this awesome guy tutorial and over weekend
I was doing stringying and parsing like I m doing since 1 yr
just a example
anyways, I am down today by what happened yesterday. shocked TBH

@Nofel what happened yesterday

3:08 PM
@IDrinkandIKnowThings my CEO came on my behind as I was watching youtube video about Regex and asked if it is related to work, I said yea. so he said show me and how it is related.
while writing this Q. it happened so I added to it workplace.stackexchange.com/questions/128119/…
@IDrinkandIKnowThings ^

That would suck but at least it was actually work related

of course. Only I would watch some other video in lunch time
but it was sort of insulting

@Nofel don't take it personally. Change your frame of reference:

What happened yesterday? any concerns that the CEO might have had that you were not working were proven wrong

true @RichardU

@Nofel Here's something for you.

Two men were in a prison cell with only a single window to look outside.

One man looked out, and saw the filth, and mud in the prison yard, the walls, the guards and the walls.

The other would look out the window at night, and would see the stars.

Both were in the same place.

Look at the stars, my friend.

3:15 PM
wow deep @RichardU

@Nofel yes, just changing what you choose to see in the world can be that profound. Look for the good, and you will see it.

3:40 PM
yea, there is a saying "When water get boil u cannot see under it"
so My emotions got best of me

@Nofel yes, but changing how you choose to perceive things will change your emotions. You're in a feedback loop now. You experienced the negative, so you're looking for it. Since you're looking for it, you see it, since you see it, you experience it.

Look for the good, and you will see it, if you see it, you will experience it, and you will look for it again.

@RichardU even my screen says "Find ur clam"

@Nofel Life sucks. We all know that. The corollary, however, is that you must go out, find, and take what little joy there is out there.

3:58 PM
well said @ri

4:16 PM
@RichardU I have told myself I will master JS this year but my mind is all over, designing, color theory etc. It sucks but I keep telling one thing at a time.

@Nofel take smaller bites, set goals step by step and progress to the big ones in a series of smaller steps

This riule helped me a lot constantrenewal.com/buffett-5-25-rule
to filter out extras until I master first 5

4:43 PM
<sigh /> that diversity Q is going to hit HNQ...

@motosubatsu Its a pretty good question so I have no problem with that

@IDrinkandIKnowThings it's an interesting question certainly, even if I (personally) find the OP's racism rather repugnant

@motosubatsu what racism

the problem is that when it inevitably hits HNQ we'll get the usual influx of people talking bollocks, regurgitating existing answers over and over

@IDrinkandIKnowThings If you're looking at race above all other things, it's racism

4:50 PM
@IDrinkandIKnowThings "I want to hire someone because they are black"
sounds pretty racist to me

@motosubatsu yeah "white dudes", not cool either.

@motosubatsu No the OP wants to increase the diversity of their team.

@IDrinkandIKnowThings that's a euphemism.
@IDrinkandIKnowThings diversity = NOT WHITE MEN
or, put more simply, racism
I've all ready been on the receiving end of "diversity programs"

that kind of racism is ok as long as you are elevating minority or disadvantaged

@IDrinkandIKnowThings in the absence of a valid reason why a job requires someone of a particular color its racism
@IDrinkandIKnowThings no it's not
racism is wrong in all it's forms

4:53 PM
@IDrinkandIKnowThings so, white people can't be disadvantaged? I wish I had known that when I was made homeless
I should have brought that up to someone

well you could be either non cis gendered, or female...

@IDrinkandIKnowThings the problem with "diversity" programs is that it puts the black daughter of a millionaire ahead of a white Appalachian male living in a run down shack.
Who is the disadvantaged one there?
@IDrinkandIKnowThings I could leverage my disabilities, but I'd rather be seen as an excellent programmer rather than a diversity hire.

@RichardU And thats your choice and its commendable, but its not a standard I expect from others.

@IDrinkandIKnowThings so, people shouldn't aspire to be great, but should instead rely on things completely disconnected from their abilities?

and... in roll the answers advising the OP to break the law
FFS when will people either a) read the gorram question and b) decide not to answer things they don't know about

4:59 PM
@motosubatsu and c)judge people for their character, not their characteristics

5:10 PM
@motosubatsu Knowing any thing about what you speak is not a requirement for posting an answer :P
remember this is the internet so if someone posts it then it has to be true.

5:21 PM
I ought to invite a few people from some other stacks to help answer that one.

Have a good evening everyone.

@Nofel take care....
Hmmmmm, I wonder just how much of a dumpster fire the elections will be this time around, and if they can find anyone brave enough to run.

5:34 PM
@motosubatsu feeling sexy today huh
Hello everybody how have you been?
@RichardU I doubt I'll run this time... but again, I said that last time
@Nofel Good evening Nofel

@DarkCygnus yeah, trust me, not worth it. I see my question was not well received, LOL

@RichardU Ugh.. I'm just planning on keeping my head down and hoping it doesn't manage to sour the whole gorram site like it did last time
@DarkCygnus hehe.. tbh I dropped that in there just to see if anyone actually bothers reading to the end of my rambling diatribes :D

@motosubatsu we still haven't recovered. That was an orgy of hate and I'm still pissed off over it.

@RichardU don't ruin the word orgy for me

Well, okay, Clusterf$$$ then

5:39 PM
lol

@RichardU :D

that sounds like the name of a unsupervised classification method provided by sci-kit
ClusterFunk

@DarkCygnus if you run, you will win because you'll be unopposed.
Curious though, when was the last time any of the mods in here answered a question.
other than Snow. I know he does

I saw Monica answer... I think last week
270
A: Why would HR think it's inappropriate that I visited a coworker in the hospital?

Monica CellioWe can not tell you what you did wrong (that sounds odd to me too), but your HR person has given you the hook you need by claiming that the employee handbook forbids it. This means you can (politely) ask the HR person to point out the relevant policy, so you can review it and make sure you under...

@RichardU well, only if there aren't at least other 2,3 candidates I would vote for I would run

I love that startup guy. "I'll give him 10% up to 100k per year"... what a... OMG

5:58 PM

Q: How to objectively measure work-done in a share of income contract?

CoreyBackground I'm developing a web-application for an active shooter defense training company. They go to organizations all around the country and teach them how to be best prepared for a horrible unexpected event. They want to take their training program online to reach more people. Problem I have...

He asked a 2nd question, no he wants to measure the free working guy to see if they "earn" those 10%

@DarkCygnus If I had a friend like that, I would not have a friend like that.

2 hours later…
7:41 PM
@motosubatsu your answer to the diversity question has shot up to the top, and somewhat restored my faith in humanity

1 hour later…
8:42 PM
I don’t know why downvoter don’t leave a comment of why they were itching to downvote

9:23 PM
@Nofel it just means they didnt like your post. Everyone has opinions and buttholes, and both of them sometimes stink

9:54 PM
@IDrinkandIKnowThings haha well I like option with a reason. I think SE shld make it mandatory to comment when downvote

@Nofel we have jerks around who downvote just to down vote. Pay them no mind

Unfortunately SE has a system when too many downvotes th Mod close the question

2 hours later…
11:35 PM
@DarkCygnus I hope you'll consider standing. I think you would be a good moderator.

11:57 PM
thanks @MonicaCellio :) I will consider it, although I am quite burdened at work right now and finishing to cope and adapt to some changes in my life... but surely I will give it a thought
and I don't want to run if I feel I will not be able to fully commit to the role
