@Rory If the OP's post is genuine, I suspect her to be a bit of a drama queen, who gets offended when people assume her to be male (feminism, male bias and all that), but also gets offended when people call her female (gender discrimination, stereotypes, and all that). As I posted in one of the comments to the question, her goal is to prevent people from assuming she is either male or female, while at the same time leaving both options open.

The only purpose that serves is to get fake-offended regardless of what people assume your gender to be. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

@MaskedMan Ugh! When I went to do the program to learn programming, we got a 'coach'. She made us play games all the time, and I hated her for it because she always made the completely wrong assumptions (or I could manipulate the game and have her make them, which was my way of having fun). Also, I never got to understand what I was supposed to gain from the games

Spent 2 hours at a random social event talking to the coach that coached other groups, and I had life figured out

I can relate to that. I always took it as a challenge to force the self-styled "game master" to resort to Calvinball with their own games, especially with puzzles. They would have a specific solution in mind to the "puzzle". I knew what they wanted to hear, but I would deliberately solve it in a different way. They would get very disappointed with that, and plead, "no, no, solve it without doing that" :P

One of the "fun events" we had at work was having us listen to a "motivational speaker". He blabbered something about how the journey is more exciting than the destination, or some crap. Then out of the blue, he put me on the spot and asked me to give an "example" of what he had just said. I responded rather innocently with, "the commute from my home to the office every morning". That left the PHB (who organized the whole thing) red faced, as everyone else burst out into laughter.

@MaskedMan Well, for instance, this coach led the introduction session for our new class. She did this by putting a shitload of postcards and images from magazines on the floor. We all had to pick one, and then we just went around the circle and everyone had to share how that picture represented their personality.

I picked one and said 'I crochet, I like this colour combination for my next project'

Really, it was the most unhelpful round of introductions I ever had... at the end, it was like 'Hey you, with the sparkly character, what's your name again'

I always derive amusement from these fun events at work though, since they invariably descend into a farce. I guess they serve their purpose after all, though not in the intended way.

Hah, interesting that 2 answers referenced my comment on an IPS question, and then that comment got removed. Apparently saying anything negative about anything or anyone is automatically rude or unconstructive these days. Gotta remember to walk on eggshells around SE, lest someone gets offended.
