@EuriPinhollow because the client would lose face.

12:32 PM
TWP is getting some more spam then usual today

12:53 PM
@Magisch, You mean that fellow really wasn't Nigerian royalyty?

I don't understand why we get the types of spam we get tbh

@enderland it must be spam bots and hacked accounts. Very low yield of suckers on a SE, plus moderators are on the spammers like dogs on a bone.

@RichardU we normally never even see spam posts tbh :P
i think any post getting 6 spam flags is auto deleted

Yeah, I've jumped on a few myself

2:18 PM
@RichardU Is such called "loosing face" (it is not obligatory to return the clock in public) more important that somebody fooled the client in first place?

@EuriPinhollow people underestimate how important not looking bad is to people

Moo
@EuriPinhollow personally I think there could be a potentially issue of the recipient potentially being beholden to the gifter if the gift is massively disproportionate to the task completed, which is not a position you as the recipient really want to be in

How can I support @Thewanderingdevmanager's duplicate flag on this question as someone with 318 rep?

Q: got an interview after 6 months into a new job

user56228i just started a new job 6 months ago and now got an interview at a company i really wanted to get in. i wasn't looking but my husband saw the posting and thought it was no harm to apply. I know they will ask me why i would want to leave my current job so soon, how can i answer this question grac...

I looked in the flag menu but there was no flag as duplicate option. Is that a workplace thing or is that because @thewanderingdevmanager already flagged it?

2:37 PM
@EuriPinhollow Wars have started over less. In some cultures, it is worse than others, but in almost all of them, it's bad form, at best.

k thx

You have just come across what I call "penalty" (penalty as in football - known as soccer in UhMehRikan). You are the goalkeeper defending a penalty. If you guess correctly which direction the striker would kick, you become a hero (assuming of course, you are skilled enough to stop the ball once you know its expected trajectory). If you guess wrongly, you jump one way and the ball goes other way, making you look a bit of an idiot.
In this case, if the client was indeed fooled and you tell them, you become a hero (to some extent). If the client did indeed purposely give you a fake watch, they would respond to your oh-so-awesome revelation with, "Yeah, so?" and you feel like a bit of an idiot.
This "penalty" occurs often enough in real life.

You might want to tag him, he's not in the room anymore to read your answers.

3:20 PM
@MaskedMan, do you know much about the duplicate flagging process?

Zak
@RichardU There's blunt and then there's disrespectful. The 2 are not necessarily the same thing.

@puzzlepiece87 I think you can still flag as a dup? it's not on the first menu, though

@enderland Thanks @enderland! My options are spam, abusive, moderator. I was looking for duplicate with a place to paste a link. Would that option be available if it hadn't already been flagged? Should I just explain and paste my link in moderator?

@puzzlepiece87 isn't there "should be closed?" maybe there's a rep threshold for that?

Rep threshold yup

3:29 PM
I see that on a site I have about 2k rep

I'll find the workplace rep threshold, one moment
3,000

@puzzlepiece87 well that's for actually closing
there might be a rep threshold for being able to flag to close, though, too, lower than 3000

@enderland Oh oh, good point, moved too fast there
I could be wrong but I think different sites also have different flag combinations

I think that might vary based on your reputation though
your reputation on workplace is only about 300 or so, I have a memory for some reason of the "flag as duplicate" showing up at 500 rep

Good point! Thanks!
That sufficiently answers my question :)

3:35 PM
I do see different dialogs on my sites for flagging based on rep

I'll leave the mods alone :) I'll save rep until I can flag as duplicate

@Zak, blunt and disrespectful are two things, except when they are not. IT can vary with culture.\

@enderland Thanks for checking different sites - I'm below 500 everywhere.

(But I have flag as dup privileges on SO)

3:37 PM
on superuser with about 1k rep I don't have "very low quality" -- which I do on money.se with around 2k rep

@puzzlepiece87 Oh right. I thought I had hit "Reply" to his comment, which automatically tags him, but looks like that didn't work.
@puzzlepiece87 That's kinda out of the blue question. Why do you ask me that?

3:54 PM
@MaskedMan :P Read upwards one page, I was trying to draw your attention to a question I had already asked when you made your reply, but @enderland has since answered it lol.

Last week was pretty hopping. This week seems slow so far.

Q: Locked out of my company email

martinFor the last week and a half or so, I have been locked out of my company email. If I spend time emailing and calling the help desk, they can eventually get me back in for a few hours before I get locked out again. So far it hasn't been so bad since, during those times that I got back in, I have...

How on earth is this on HNQ?

@Lilienthal no clue. I think its on topic but its really simple and uninteresting

11 answers when all that should be said is "Contact your helpdesk. Escalate if they're dragging their feet"

Meh. I'm more in favor of just telling the manager to handle it. He contacted the help desk several times already

There's not even a real question there beyond "what should I do" which we also close.
Unless you consider "can I use my personal mail for work?" which I personally consider a dumb question that anyone with internet access should now, but I'll concede that common sense on that front is surprisingly uncommon.
And that's not even what's really being asked.

Just cast the last close vote for that oen

5:32 PM
good job, I guess.

Why let gnat have all the fun

Yeah, we should talk to that guy about hogging all the fun...
@mhoran_psprep hey, what's up?

6:11 PM
@Lilienthal What is your opinion on this question? I have a hunch OP suffers from mild dilusion there

6:43 PM
What happens when you don't document. ^^^^^^

6:57 PM
@Magisch there's minimally an element of truth to everyone's viewpoint. Even if OP is completely deluded, the answers will benefit others who may be marginally in the same position.

7:16 PM
@AaronHall "document" "Document" "DOCUMENT" is practically my mantra

I made an edit to clarify this question. I believe the circumstances here are different from the duplicate question @Chad linked, which focuses more on a few days known about prior to even joining the company. — enderland ♦ 3 mins ago
