Being a voracious reader, particularly of tvtropes, certainly helped my campaign. The last line from my nomination post especially, was not written just to fill space, it was the result of the entry on Tip O'Neill's election campaign at You Didn't Ask:

@AnneDaunted I did wake up at 3am today, although it has nothing to do with the election results. I slept about 2 hours extra last 2 days, and my body tends to maintain "perfect balance" and I wake up earlier than usual.
Things are not so bad as the "hardworking Asian meme" suggests though, I tend to get a good 7 to 8 hours of sleep each day. That's not counting the time I sleep in office, of course. :)
It's like going to your favourite supermarket for years, and then someone suddenly showing you through to the warehouse/loading bays/offices and saying "ok, you work here now".
The difference here is that there's no unlimited Haribo here.
@Snow I was surprised how tense it all got for me tbh.. when there was about 10 mins left on the election clock I actually couldn't take it any more and went out for a run to take my mind of it!
@motosubatsu Well I am glad I was asleep at the time. :) Anyway since this mod election was a Xanatos Gambit for me, I don't think it would have mattered anyway.
@Snow possibly.. although I had interpreted the OP's wish to be more about working alone rather than any preference on management style. I put the "self-sufficient, self-motivated" bit in to try and cover that angle somewhat though
@MaskedMan I usually go with wrapping my CV around a molotov cocktail and hurling it through the office window but my right shoulder is hurting too much today and I don't throw very well with my left. So instead I'm going with Plan B which is to sit morosely at my desk sipping from a can of Red Bull (other energy drinks are available) and muttering "You don't understand. I coulda had class. I coulda been a moderator. I coulda been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am.."
How do recruiters agencies work, particularly in Australia? How much they charge the employer for a contract position? Is it better for a job seeker to apply for a specific opening by a recruiter or directly from the remuneration standpoint?
@Snow probably.. possibly they got put off by the "how much they charge" which is hard to answer specifically but the general structure of how they charge isn't and IMO is a reasonable question we can answer (which is why I treated it as such)
Has anyone here ever heard of recruitment agencies where you pay a fee as a job seeker for them to find you a job? I seem to recall hearing about such a thing in the past but I've not heard of it since
@Cronax Oh yes, I have had the pleasure of working with one. They promised me a "guaranteed" job in Australia or Canada. I called them out on their BS quite easily.
@MaskedMan anytime someone "guarantees" something that even a naive five year old could tell isn't in their power to guarantee a giant flashing neon sign that reads "SCAM" and accompanying louder-than-a-jet-engine klaxon goes off in my head to warn me

@FreezePhoenix I learned to program back in the ancient days of the 1970s. We had a home computer with a cassette tape drive (yes, not even a disk drive) and I wanted to play games, so I learned to type in code from books, and trouble-shoot.
@MaskedMan Rather than become a mod, I got around that problem by inventing a time machine. Now, all I have to do is wait for the future version of me to come back to present time and let me use it.

@AnneDaunted There are a few where a stable time loop is the mechanism, and they make sense and are written with that understanding. Or, in short, the time-loop is a closed loop, you travel because you travel and the consequences of your travel are the causes of your travel.
If you can't write a story to close the loop, you shouldn't write it.
@AnneDaunted The way it would work is like this: You travel to the future and see a dystopian world. It was created by the work of a scientist known as Dr Robert Jones. You go back to your time, and find Dr Robert Jones, who is working on the thing that will create the dystopia, so you kill him to stop it from happening.
Now the twist:
He was stuck and would never have made the discovery.
His son, who had no interest in his father's work, is outraged at the murder of his father, takes over his work and makes the discovery. He was named after his father, and alaso Dr robert jones
@Crossedtheriverstyx if you want properly thought out scientific time travel feel free to watch Primer - just make sure you have plenty of migraine meds on hand and enough time to recover afterwards

@AnneDaunted I find the advice of critics to be useless, as they tend to either be fooled by gimmickery, or too immersed in the minutia of the craft to be able to enjoy the story.
@Crossedtheriverstyx the latter is an annoying trap for those trained in those aspects - when I did my creative writing course at university it was years before I could "just watch" a movie again as my brain automatically started deconstructing the story as I was watching it. Even nearly two decades later it still happens to me sometimes
@motosubatsu I have managed to avoid that with music. My training as a vocalist and composer made me appreciate things more. It's also made me aware of WHY I don't like some music. It's also let me recognize good music even if it is not my taste
@Crossedtheriverstyx I've (mostly) reached the point where I can turn it on or off at will, which is great as I can enjoy something as a "norm" the first time around and then re-watch or re-read something and appreciate the craft in it

@motosubatsu It's lighthearted and doesn't take itself seriously, but it still manages to cause some thought to happen. That's my favorite combination. I don't like movies that take themselves too seriously.

@dwizum although there is an argument that he only acts that way because current dwizum knows he acts that way so when current dwizum becomes future dwizum through the normal passage of time he is just acting the way he remembers that he acted
in fact if we are ascribing to a stable time loop philosophy then when (through the normal passage of time) present day dwizum becomes future dwizum he has to act in bizarre and selfish ways, regardless of his own feelings on the matter, because he already has and anything else would be a paradox
Usually in CV one would write how collaborative he is and how he appreciates a team work. At least, this is what most companies want to find in a candidate.
In my own CV I would like to point out politely, that while I'm willing to work in a team, I would prefer to receive tasks to be completed ...
"working alone" has a massive negative connotation, whereas what the OP is actually looking for is working on "small self-contained projects", which isn't entirely unreasonable.
They have posted some clarifications to that effect in the comments, but those comments don't seem to be entirely incorporated into the post.
well, it will be hard to do if you are applying to big companies, where most likely they will have scrum teams or similar that are at least of 3 people
Perhaps a startup or smaller business could be a better target for OP
I think that if we phrased it differently it would be to bias the post towards the answer given by motosubatsu, the thing OP learned here was to present that desire as an asset, instead of a "but I..."
I have seen one colleague get into that role to better support his work-life balance. He decided to go part-time, so they assigned him to a certain project they could independently handle with minimal supervision.
