12:13 AM
@Crossedtheriverstyx Thanks for your kind words. :)

1:03 AM
@MaskedMan You're welcome, now permit me a few guffaws at what I KNOW wil be The reaction of some

Congratulatory messages are flowing in from all across the world ... is all I can say for now. :)

o/
(hello)

1:40 AM
@Crossedtheriverstyx "You should have aimed for the head!" seems like an appropriate response to those. ;)

@MaskedMan No spoilers please...

2:27 AM
@FreezePhoenix I didn't say which movie I was referring to, so ... :)
Being a voracious reader, particularly of tvtropes, certainly helped my campaign. The last line from my nomination post especially, was not written just to fill space, it was the result of the entry on Tip O'Neill's election campaign at You Didn't Ask:
I decided to test that trope here, and circumstantial evidence suggests that it works. That's the Power of Asking for you, or as I would usually put it:
Never let go of an opportunity to ask for what you want.
Ok that's enough about me, me, me. How are you doing @FreezePhoenix?

3:08 AM
@MaskedMan This all has been a fascinating study in human behavior, hasn't it?

2 hours later…
5:32 AM
@AnneDaunted I did wake up at 3am today, although it has nothing to do with the election results. I slept about 2 hours extra last 2 days, and my body tends to maintain "perfect balance" and I wake up earlier than usual.
Things are not so bad as the "hardworking Asian meme" suggests though, I tend to get a good 7 to 8 hours of sleep each day. That's not counting the time I sleep in office, of course. :)

I'm still shell-shocked.

6:02 AM
Morning
Gz you two :D

Good morning and thanks. It's all a little strange. I should have taken that drink last night.

6:48 AM
Congratulations MM and Snow

@RoryAlsop Thank you.
I woke up at 3am and saw the results in half asleep state, then I looked at the detailed vote count, and my reaction was like this. ^^^^

morning all

I was pretty shocked. I was sure that Chris would finally get his spot.

how's day one going @snow and @MaskedMan

It's like going to your favourite supermarket for years, and then someone suddenly showing you through to the warehouse/loading bays/offices and saying "ok, you work here now".
The difference here is that there's no unlimited Haribo here.

7:05 AM
@Snow so tell me.. who really killed JFK?

Elvis

@Snow I knew it..then he "went home" right?

@motosubatsu I am still shocked by the results. It will take me a day or two to get over the shock.

Funnily enough, people stopped upvoting my answers immediately after the results were announced.

7:23 AM
@Snow that's because you've sold out you're "The Man" now!

@Snow I noticed the same, thankfully nobody has downvoted me ... yet.

A J
@Snow @MaskedMan Congratulations for getting elected as moderators for The Workplace!!

Alright folks, what can we do to make The Workplace more fun? Mandatory Fun Events, anyone?
There's already a request from multiple people to provide cookies every Friday. We will have to look at the budget on that.
@AJ Thank you

@MaskedMan "Mandatory Fun Events" <- don't even joke about it <shudder />

7:43 AM
There needs to be a mandatory Company Song, to be sung at 6am. With exercises.

@Snow you used to be cool man

@Snow Yes, this is a good idea. I completely agree. Charlie must also attend though.

Oh, he'd enjoy that. Man I'm glad all this waiting is over.

@Snow I was surprised how tense it all got for me tbh.. when there was about 10 mins left on the election clock I actually couldn't take it any more and went out for a run to take my mind of it!

@motosubatsu Well I am glad I was asleep at the time. :) Anyway since this mod election was a Xanatos Gambit for me, I don't think it would have mattered anyway.

8:01 AM
@Snow @MaskedMan I believe congratulations are in order :D

@MaskedMan and one you parlayed into a CMoA and I'm glad that SE doesn't get new moderators via a Klingon Promotion

So today is my day out to "celebrate" winning the election ... uhm, actually I just wanted an excuse to skip work and attend an interview. :P
I wonder if I should say in the interview that I got elected moderator on Workplace.SE? ;)
@motosubatsu That was actually one question I planned to ask in next time's questionnaire. :)
"If you were asked to replace one of the existing moderators on getting elected, who would you choose and why?" 😎

@MaskedMan because the last round didn't generate enough controversy? :D

8:17 AM
That could be one good reason. There wasn't much vitriol directed at me because ... well, let's not go there. I want people to get a fair chance.

dang.. can't catch a break this morning.. three answers and all three have attracted downvotes

I guess some people need more sugar in their coffee.

@Snow I'm probably among them.. hence I've cracked my second can of Red Bull

I'm wondering whether your CV answer could include something like "requires little supervision" or a more sugar-coated variant.

8:35 AM
@Snow possibly.. although I had interpreted the OP's wish to be more about working alone rather than any preference on management style. I put the "self-sufficient, self-motivated" bit in to try and cover that angle somewhat though

Yes, you're right. Saying the same thing three times over does seem a little excessive, doesn't it?

@Snow I tend to draw the line at two myself
:P
now if you'd kindly use your new mod powers to make everyone else agree with me that would be great :)

Sorry, I can only use those powers for good. :D

8:50 AM
@Snow then what good are you? is it too late to change my vote?

Well, you can click on the button a few times if it makes you feel better.... ;)

9:07 AM
@Snow grumble..they shoulda hired that moto-somthing guy..*grumble*

9:26 AM
@motosubatsu You should get yourself one of these ...
I know I should get one too.
@motosubatsu How to professionally communicate to the company that they should have hired me instead of the candidate they hired?

9:54 AM
@MaskedMan I usually go with wrapping my CV around a molotov cocktail and hurling it through the office window but my right shoulder is hurting too much today and I don't throw very well with my left. So instead I'm going with Plan B which is to sit morosely at my desk sipping from a can of Red Bull (other energy drinks are available) and muttering "You don't understand. I coulda had class. I coulda been a moderator. I coulda been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am.."

You still have your cats....

@Snow good point.. I'll get a couple of dozen more and then I can really embrace the whole crazy cat man thing

I've heard that knitting is becoming trendy now....

@Snow which automatically rules it out.. can't be seen to be "trendy" that's far too gauche

Crochet then. Or maybe Croquet.

10:10 AM
@Snow Crochet I think.. Croquet is dangerously close to being a social activity

I gotta get a 🐈 too, or maybe two. I used to have 14 🐈s a few years ago, but not anymore. 😓
I now have a 🐒 and a baby 🐒.
lol autocorrect.

Or "autowronger" as I like to call it...

@Snow hehe..that's what I call automapper..or at least that's the SFW name I call it anyway

Q: How do recruitment agencies work?

PHPstHow do recruiters agencies work, particularly in Australia? How much they charge the employer for a contract position? Is it better for a job seeker to apply for a specific opening by a recruiter or directly from the remuneration standpoint?

this question doesn't seem too broad to me, am I wrong?
it seems like it can be answered simply, by giving a rough outline of how recruitment agencies work
as in, they receive job openings, match people to those openings, and receive money if the match was successful

@Cronax nope I'm with you on that one.. it's not especially broad and seems pretty much bang on topic IMO

10:22 AM
That's what moto did. I guess the DV guys saw three questions and got confused.

@Snow probably.. possibly they got put off by the "how much they charge" which is hard to answer specifically but the general structure of how they charge isn't and IMO is a reasonable question we can answer (which is why I treated it as such)

Has anyone here ever heard of recruitment agencies where you pay a fee as a job seeker for them to find you a job? I seem to recall hearing about such a thing in the past but I've not heard of it since

@Cronax I have.. but not for some years and they were pretty much universally derided as a being scams or shysters whenever they popped up

@motosubatsu Is that what you meant with the 'flat-fee structure' in your answer?
(I'm editing it to improve its clarity, hence why I ask)

@Cronax no.. in that case the employer still pays it's just a set price rather than a % of the eventual hire's wage etc.

10:29 AM
thought so

@Cronax Oh yes, I have had the pleasure of working with one. They promised me a "guaranteed" job in Australia or Canada. I called them out on their BS quite easily.

10:43 AM
@MaskedMan anytime someone "guarantees" something that even a naive five year old could tell isn't in their power to guarantee a giant flashing neon sign that reads "SCAM" and accompanying louder-than-a-jet-engine klaxon goes off in my head to warn me

11:22 AM
@motosubatsu I made an edit to your answer, feel free to revert if I missed the mark

@MaskedMan i was doing fine. I had to sleep.

@Cronax good edit :) I've done another one just to add a bit about agencies that charge the candidate being likely scams but otherwise that was a very nice edit.. many thanks :)

oh Hi new people
o/
@motosubatsu are you a flaming laser firing duck?

@FreezePhoenix no lasers.. I'm just a firequacker

Oops that looked like lasers. Now i see its a flame

11:36 AM
@FreezePhoenix lol it's quite hard to see when the avatar is in small form

@MaskedMan in case you're interested, I'm still doing fine :)

@FreezePhoenix Seems like you had some good sleep.

About 10 hours or so.

11:57 AM
Nice, I rarely get more than 8. My body has some sort of a timer which expires at random times.

o.O If its random then it wouldn't be a timer would it? :)

@FreezePhoenix it can still be a timer.. just one where the initial countdown value is randomized each time :P

Ahh... I see.

@FreezePhoenix Well, you underestimate the magic that an Electronics Engineer can do. ;)

12:18 PM
Random doesn't have to mean 100% random, if it's random between 1 and 2 it's still random ;)

@Snow and @MaskedMan I'm so glad you two got elected. We've been friends for so long and I always supported you two, believing in you and just knowing that you are the best for this job. Hopefully, if needed, you will remember that. ;-) (j/k)

@Cronax What's this 1 and 2 you are talking about? Of course, we all know 4 is the only universal random number.

@MaskedMan Oh man, how could I forget about that one

@AnneDaunted Thank you. It does seem like we have known each other for a long time. :)

Sorry for my inept attempts to post it as a picture - I'll just post the link (another random number joke):

12:24 PM
Aah, I was about to ask if you were self-censoring or if someone was being mean

@AnneDaunted Flattery will get you everywhere.

@MaskedMan You are my hero.

@AnneDaunted You need to use the upload option, and then you can specify the web location. It is a bit of a pain though.

@MaskedMan Thanks. I will try it next time.
I'm also glad that my grilling, especially of you, @MaskedMan, had no deleterious effect on the number of votes you got (your questionnaire had a pretty low score most of the time).

12:30 PM
Your grilling was more or less a drop in the ocean. ;)
I have done lot more controversial things in the past.

@MaskedMan Thanks. That's what I wanted to read.

To be honest, I am still shocked by the result, and especially by the vote count.

Not something like "Your questions helped me improve my questionnaire and my whole approach to moderation that much - I'm sure I wouldn't have stood a chance without your helpful feedback." I mean, you are the mod now - you have all the power. ;-)

Well, I didn't mean it in the dismissive sense (such as "your grilling didn't really matter that much"). :)
I Know You Know I Know coming up ... ;)

It seems that one questionnaire was deleted.

12:40 PM
Oh, I saw it. That's ... odd.

It was @MisterPositive.

It's unfortunate. I thought the post had some good ideas. Anyway, if the user decided to delete it, there's nothing we can do or need to do, I guess. :|

@MaskedMan Now you have the opportunity to live up to the shoes you've been put in and prove your critics wrong :p

I guess it got a negative score again (I'm sure it was at 0 for some time). Negative scores for questionnaires are not really necessary, I think.
@Magisch Or his supporters ;-)

@Magisch I understand your point, but proving my critics wrong is not exactly my priority. I will just do the job I signed up for, people can draw their own conclusions. ;)
@AnneDaunted I am afraid that is more likely. :P

12:47 PM
@MaskedMan I meant by doing a good job

@MaskedMan So your reply means that "doing a good job" is "not exactly [your] priority"? ;-)

I took that as meaning that he doesn't see public perception by critics as a priority, but the actual job itself

I was just kidding.

@AnneDaunted Doing a good job is my priority, wondering whether that proves critics wrong is not my priority.

12:52 PM
Damn, beat me to it
I was almost going to say that word for word

You said the "T" word....

@Snow I said "that" not "this"
DOH!

@AnneDaunted I know what you meant, but I still to explain to prevent certain problems showing up in future.

Tricked ya!

@Crossedtheriverstyx it was a trap and you stepped right in it
consider yourself bamboozled, as the kids these days call it

12:55 PM
@Snow You don't need to trick him like this anymore. Use your mod powers. ;-)

Free flags on ELL.SE. Thank me later. :)

Q: What does "this" used as a single word sentence mean?

Masked ManI found this comment on an answer at Workplace.SE. This. Also, in a properly organized scrum, there is no team member over another. The team self-organizes. The scrum master is there to ensure that things like the daily scrum meeting happen, and to facilitate them He's not there to lead anyth...

@MaskedMan is it wrong that I really want to put a comment on the accepted answer there that just says "This."

You might need to add a few dots to get past the lower character limit.

@motosubatsu You will probably have to put a few ducks because of the character limit.

Or "+1"

1:03 PM
This 🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆
The advantage is nobody will flag it as offensive because of the cute ducks.
By the way, @FreezePhoenix, I see you don't seem to have an account here. I hope you will be around here, and contribute some useful posts to this site. :)

@MaskedMan Ill make an account If I see a post I think I can answer.
Granted that requires I look at the questions...

@AnneDaunted You get a couple of minutes to edit your post. Most of us do it here anyway, so I don't think anyone will "judge" you for it.
@FreezePhoenix Nice, I am sure the community would benefit from the unique insights you would bring. :)

Yeh I'll bring a slightly different moral view to this site, considering I'm a programmer.

@MaskedMan I was much too slow. But here are tips on how to post short (even empty) comments or answers.

@AnneDaunted Nice, so looks like I was carrying water to the river there. :D

1:16 PM
@FreezePhoenix Wait? Programmers have morals now?

@Crossedtheriverstyx I'm not a fully fledged one :P I'm self taught, so yes I have morals
I think I did a pretty good job teaching myself

Well, the greatest mod power is undoubtedly the ability to fix old comments with no time limit.
May 26 at 16:54, by Masked Man
Damn Link Fu gone wrong. Sorry, due to my OCD, I had to put that link in there somehow. Fixed with Mod Fu. :)
^^^ Example. :)

@MaskedMan Oh man, that alone might be worth the trouble of running for election

Oh... @MaskedMan the mod just waits until the original comment poster can't edit and then the mod edits it...

Wow, so basically mod powers grant you the ability to un- and redo the past? Had I known that...

1:18 PM
@FreezePhoenix I learned to program back in the ancient days of the 1970s. We had a home computer with a cassette tape drive (yes, not even a disk drive) and I wanted to play games, so I learned to type in code from books, and trouble-shoot.

@Crossedtheriverstyx then you might enjoy this modern remake of snake: FreezePhoenix.github.io/FireSnake/3D.html

@Cronax Wait, what? I thought that was the only reason why anyone would want to be a mod. Was there anything else to do?

:D

@FreezePhoenix You are giving me some interesting ideas there. ;)

@MaskedMan Rather than become a mod, I got around that problem by inventing a time machine. Now, all I have to do is wait for the future version of me to come back to present time and let me use it.

1:24 PM
@MaskedMan "the only reason to accept the inconveniences of power is to reward thine friends and punish thine enemies... oh and being able to edit old comments, that's pretty damn cool"

@dwizum Why didn't you tell us the result of the election much earlier?

@dwizum what do we want? Time travel! when do we want it? That's irrelevent!

I hope I never invent a time machine, I'd be too mischievous with it. And I know that I'd be the chief victim of my own pranks

@AnneDaunted Because he hasn't received the time machine yet from the future dwizum. :)

@Crossedtheriverstyx Smart person we have here.

1:27 PM
@MaskedMan alas, future dwizum is a bizzare and selfish character.

This is becomig too complicated for my small brain.

I need to go make a post on one of the English SEs. Is "is" the correct verb tense in that sentence?
@AnneDaunted this

@AnneDaunted So the way this works is future dwizum will invent a time machine and deliver it to the present dwizum, who in turn will go into the past and tell the past dwizum the results of the election, who will make a post here to let us know the election results in advance. I hope that makes things a bit more clear. ;)

@dwizum Don't mention my name, please. Thanks.
@MaskedMan But past dwizum is already too late for that.

@FreezePhoenix In the movie "murder by death", there's a great exchange.

Jamsesir: This is the room where Ms Twain murdered herself
Mr. Charleseton: Murder? Don't you mean suicide?
Jamessir: Oh no, it was murder alright, Mrs Twain hated herself.

1:29 PM
Time travel never made sense to me in movies either.

@dwizum Nobody can answer that question better than Bill Clinton. He is the expert on all "is" related matters.

@MaskedMan But maybe that just hasn't all happened yet, and some day in the future, me and/or future dwizum WILL go back and tell us the election results

@AnneDaunted Time travel stories should not be written by anyone who doesn't have an intimate knowledge of quantum theory.

Maybe he already DID but then I knew it, because it was me, and I changed my vote

@Crossedtheriverstyx Maybe they shouldn't be written by anyone.

1:35 PM
@AnneDaunted There are a few where a stable time loop is the mechanism, and they make sense and are written with that understanding. Or, in short, the time-loop is a closed loop, you travel because you travel and the consequences of your travel are the causes of your travel.
If you can't write a story to close the loop, you shouldn't write it.

Someone called?
@Snow Hodor

Hodor sir.

@Crossedtheriverstyx I have never seen such a story.

@dwizum future motosubatsu is a git.. admittedly he does have nice hair though

Hello @Crossedtheriverstyx (Richard)

@AnneDaunted The way it would work is like this: You travel to the future and see a dystopian world. It was created by the work of a scientist known as Dr Robert Jones. You go back to your time, and find Dr Robert Jones, who is working on the thing that will create the dystopia, so you kill him to stop it from happening.
Now the twist:
He was stuck and would never have made the discovery.

@MaskedMan Like Marvel movies. You can not expect reality in a superhero movie

His son, who had no interest in his father's work, is outraged at the murder of his father, takes over his work and makes the discovery. He was named after his father, and alaso Dr robert jones

Speaking of which I really enjoyed Steins;Gate and Future Diary.

@Crossedtheriverstyx if you want properly thought out scientific time travel feel free to watch Primer - just make sure you have plenty of migraine meds on hand and enough time to recover afterwards

1:40 PM
@Crossedtheriverstyx This would be a nice twist. I guess i haven't seen enough time travel movies.

The Time Traveller's Wife was a very good book. It was a film too.

@AnneDaunted There is so much bad writing out there that entire genre's get a stigma because of it.

@Snow a superb book, the film is watchable but not in the same league as the book

The original Star Wars movies were so popular, that EVERYONE was writing science fiction for a while, resulting in alot of bad science fiction, resulting in the reputation of science fiction being bad

Excuse me for a moment while I write that question triggered by our icecream discussion couple of days ago.

1:43 PM
@Crossedtheriverstyx I try to avoid that by being extra careful. Then I watch an artsy French movie beloved by critics and - bang - got trapped again.

@AnneDaunted I find the advice of critics to be useless, as they tend to either be fooled by gimmickery, or too immersed in the minutia of the craft to be able to enjoy the story.

Yes, I try to take it with a grain of salt.

If you want to see a good example, go to rotten tomatos and see how vastly different critic scores are compared to viewer scoreds

@Crossedtheriverstyx the latter is an annoying trap for those trained in those aspects - when I did my creative writing course at university it was years before I could "just watch" a movie again as my brain automatically started deconstructing the story as I was watching it. Even nearly two decades later it still happens to me sometimes

@motosubatsu I have managed to avoid that with music. My training as a vocalist and composer made me appreciate things more. It's also made me aware of WHY I don't like some music. It's also let me recognize good music even if it is not my taste

1:56 PM
@Crossedtheriverstyx I've (mostly) reached the point where I can turn it on or off at will, which is great as I can enjoy something as a "norm" the first time around and then re-watch or re-read something and appreciate the craft in it

This discussion on closed-loop time travel reminds me of Predestination
I'm generally more fond of the Doctor Who style of time travel

@Cronax yes, closed-loop avoids the existence of any possibility of a paradox

@Crossedtheriverstyx I'm specifically referring to the movie with that title that is a good example of that concept, even if it's a mindf*ck-and-a-half

My favorite time travel movie is probably About Time imdb.com/title/tt2194499
assuming you rule out Back to the Future, since it would otherwise win by default

Back to the Future gets a special exemption from criticism in my book

2:11 PM
@dwizum if we are ruling out BttF then mine has to be Primer, as headache-inducing as it is the sheer brilliance of it makes the difference

Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel was good too
If you like goofy B-list

@dwizum an old coworker recommended that to me.. I really should get it watched at some point

Ok, done.

Q: How to get junior coworkers to volunteer for team building tasks at work?

Masked ManSuppose I am organising a birthday party for a coworker. This is not an official event. The team as a whole agreed to do it on every coworker's birthday. Someone needs to get a cake (and some other things) from the shop. I would like one of my junior1 coworkers to volunteer, because it is not p...

if we are including books then for a very loose definition of "Time Travel" The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August is excellent

Just. Don't. Flag. To. Migrate. To. ...

2:23 PM
@motosubatsu It's lighthearted and doesn't take itself seriously, but it still manages to cause some thought to happen. That's my favorite combination. I don't like movies that take themselves too seriously.
@MaskedMan You have an answer sir!

@dwizum Wow, are you a bot or what? You seem to be posting answers too fast. :)

@MaskedMan I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you

@dwizum does sound like the sort of thing I'd enjoy

@dwizum Oh, I know it now. You keep the answer ready before the question using your time machine, then post it right after the question is posted to avoid suspicion.

@motosubatsu If you're familiar with Roy from The IT Crowd, he's a star in it. That's what prompted me to watch it
@MaskedMan OH GREAT spill the secret, now I WILL have to kill you...
Or just go back in time and cover my tracks?

2:30 PM
@MaskedMan answer from me as well
@dwizum I am indeed :)

ORRR should I leave all this sitting here, in an attempt to make it look like I do not in fact have a time machine (or else I WOULD have cleaned it up)

@MaskedMan can't believe that I answered that 8 mins after you asked it and yet I was still the third answer to be posted..stupid time traveling cheaters

A couple more answers and it goes to HNQ. :)

@motosubatsu Don't blame me, blame future dwizum

@dwizum well he is a bizzare and selfish character...

2:39 PM
@motosubatsu As described by someone who you'd think would know

@dwizum although there is an argument that he only acts that way because current dwizum knows he acts that way so when current dwizum becomes future dwizum through the normal passage of time he is just acting the way he remembers that he acted
in fact if we are ascribing to a stable time loop philosophy then when (through the normal passage of time) present day dwizum becomes future dwizum he has to act in bizarre and selfish ways, regardless of his own feelings on the matter, because he already has and anything else would be a paradox
nice job breaking free will @dwizum!

crap

3:21 PM
Someone downvoted my cake-share answer

Weren't me.

Good morning
Sup people?

The Darkness has risen. Good morning sir.

@dwizum If it makes you feel any better, I got 2 downvotes on my question, which doesnt surprise me that much, after the recent event. :)

I feel like it would be an improvement to SE in general if downvotes gave users prompts to add comments, sorta like some other actions do

3:43 PM
@dwizum I like it as it is, the text says Not useful, or no research effort. ( something like that )

Hello all
How and what do I tell recruiters why I left last role as I was laid off

@Nofel "It wasn't a good fit" Rinse and Repeat.

How are our new Overlords doing today?
Want to hear something dark that happened to me yesterday?

@DarkCygnus I sense darkness...

I am back in U.K. btw
@MisterPositive some ppl like to go in detail then whT

3:51 PM
Going out of the office, some guys tried to rob my car while I was in it!! Like an armed assault!!

@DarkCygnus hope ur fine.

Yeah, I'm fine, but got reaaaaly startled
Thanks God I watched all the Fast and Furious movies... you should have seen me sprint away from them
(Not sure if that was something dumb or brave)

@DarkCygnus Given that you lived to tell us the tale here, it was definitely not dumb. :)

Well, you got a point there

Or should I say, "never let go of an opportunity to run away from an armed assault"? :)

3:54 PM
lol, talking about one's own business

Man, I am changing my mind on that meme post of yours.
Never let go of an opportunity to make a meme of yourself.

You mean the guidelines to navigate the workplace? hehe
I still think it has potential

I think so too. ;)
We can try again. :P
If we keep the meme and the guidelines separate, I think we would be fine.

Yeah, that was the problem on that post, seems that each one is worthy of it's own post
Perhaps we could focus first on the guidelines part, and then probe if people would dig the meme one

Seems that I found the answer to this question:

Alright folks, what can we do to make The Workplace more fun? Mandatory Fun Events, anyone?
Everyone should post one meme. :P Mandatory Fun Event.

Q: How to politely write 'I work best when working alone' in a CV

MarkUsually in CV one would write how collaborative he is and how he appreciates a team work. At least, this is what most companies want to find in a candidate. In my own CV I would like to point out politely, that while I'm willing to work in a team, I would prefer to receive tasks to be completed ...

"working alone" has a massive negative connotation, whereas what the OP is actually looking for is working on "small self-contained projects", which isn't entirely unreasonable.
They have posted some clarifications to that effect in the comments, but those comments don't seem to be entirely incorporated into the post.

hmmm
well, it will be hard to do if you are applying to big companies, where most likely they will have scrum teams or similar that are at least of 3 people
Perhaps a startup or smaller business could be a better target for OP

True, I don't think it would work at big companies if you ask for that at the door.
Once you are with the company for a few years, you can negotiate with the management to move you into that sort of a role.

I think that if we phrased it differently it would be to bias the post towards the answer given by motosubatsu, the thing OP learned here was to present that desire as an asset, instead of a "but I..."

I have seen one colleague get into that role to better support his work-life balance. He decided to go part-time, so they assigned him to a certain project they could independently handle with minimal supervision.

what parts you think could use more love?

I read that entirely out of context.

@Snow lol, now that you mentioned it, I re-read it out of context.
@DarkCygnus When I think about it again, I think you are right, those additional details seem to invalidate @motosubatsu's answer, or at least make it sound a bit ... strange.

loool
@MaskedMan yup, if OP had phrased it more like you say, he wouldn't need post the question, so I guess that phrasing is ok

4:53 PM
@MaskedMan BTW congrats sir.

5:09 PM
@MisterPositive Thank you sir. :)

5:22 PM
@MaskedMan That is the point of the question. There are positions where the OP can shine working as the sole or primary support for a project(s)

@IDrinkandIKnowThings I don't mind either version, but OP posted additional details into comments, which explained his "motivation" for taking on such roles, which wasn't clear from the post.

@MaskedMan Original question is good, "How do I insert my demands that will make me look like a raving lunitic?" is not

6:05 PM
@dwizum I just asked over in ELU chat room and they said it was correct.

6:50 PM
@AnneDaunted Well thanks! Problem solved. I appreciate your support on this critical question

"Shut up @MaskedMan "
TBH, I am scared that MaskedMan is now named like that... watch out for the snappy fingers

Q: Inexperienced manager is making our work life miserable

FortressAt work, we have a manager with no prior managerial experience, at least none in the tech world which any of us would consider reasonable. He doesn't even have a manager title, but we're assigned to him as subordinates. He attempts to micromanage people, butts in to our personal lives in a way th...

@dwizum Please know that you can always count on me. Do not hesitate to ask me for help in the future.

How can this be reworded so it is not a "Should I quit" question?

@DarkCygnus Maybe concentrate on "What's more, I'm afraid of it affecting my resume if I leave." Perhaps, this could be turned into a suitable question.

8:21 PM
@AnneDaunted with respect to the future, are you trying to indicate that future dwizum can count on you too? Is this just your secret plot to get on his good side in an attempt to gain access to the time machine?

@dwizum Future dwizum already knows the answer to that question.

dun dun dunnnnn
(insert dramatic music here)

Does future dwizum even have access to a time machine, because if so, why doesn't he prove it?

7 hours ago, by dwizum
@MaskedMan alas, future dwizum is a bizzare and selfish character.

It's not a secret plot to gain access to the time machine. I'm genuinely offering also future dwizum my help.

Q: Are there any organizations in which nearly all employees are software engineers?

kyh87I have noticed that in many companies positions for software engineers are designed in such a way that the engineers spend the majority of their time on code-related tasks (code-review, writing tests, scrum meetings etc...) and very little on other tasks such as those related to design, sales, da...
