@Gryphon thanks! I try to pick something at or near the beginning that I think will pull people in and that doesn't spoil anything. Sometimes when there's background info (like with this story), that's not exactly the beginning.
BTW, I'm always happy to accept suggestions for what to excerpt in the meta post! Updating the meta post is actually the most time-consuming part of the process (other than proofreading the post, of course).
The next part can probably just be the first 3 paragraphs or so. Doesn't really ruin anything, doesn't get to the cliffhanger reveal, and looks kind of interesting.
That probably depends on the rate at which events unfold in your alternate timeline. Sometimes a lot happens in just a few hours; sometimes a comparable amount of stuff happens in a month. Let the needs of the narrative guide you.
Hey people, what do you think of this game. Anything obvious I missed? I'll see if I can playtest it a bit before posting, but I'd love to know if there's anything obvious I missed.
Note that that'll be going on my account, not the blog itself.
I feel like the RPG Maker would be good to use for creating a simple example map. I am pretty sure there was a free version and it basically allows easy tile-based drag-and-drop creation of little RPGs. It would take you probably only a few minutes to create a map with some basic mountains.
It's a bit weird to use parentheses and in addition start with "so". It looks like you were not completely sure about the sentence structure there. I would split that into two full sentences, maybe starting the second one with "For example".
I would mark the keywords like Destroy, for example like I did in this sentence. They are specific actions and it feels weird that they are represented like normal words. Especially because you wrote them in uppercase in the beginning
