Q: How to calculate memory size needed for each docker container?

overexchangeBelow is the CloudFormation template to configure ECS tasks: TodobackendTaskDefinition: Type: "AWS::ECS::TaskDefinition" Properties: ContainerDefinitions: - Name: todobackend Image: someacct/todobackend Memory: 450 MountPoints: -...

Any comment on the query on physical address space?

@derobert can you comment on this?

Oh dear, now someone wants to enable process substitutions in bash when the shell is running in POSIX mode.
Motivation: "It's annoying to not be able to use process substitution when the shell is in POSIX mode" (paraphrased).

It's annoying not being able to drive at bugatti speeds in my ford pickup

I just "unwatched" the att/ast repo (the repository for the ksh93 shell, which is currently seeing active development) because a couple of users have taken issues with the way the shell is being developed. It would be all well and good if they kept to the technicalities, but the comments on issues are mostly name-calling. I can't really handle that sort of stuff. It's childish and unprofessional.

eh, it's fitting

I believe one of the contributors is a RedHat employee, so I wonder if they are taking the shell under their wing?
... or it might just be a side project of the guy.

I would be surprised if they did

@Kusalananda I just started watching the repo because I love reading arguments like that :p
I only really see drama from the jghub user though who appears to have no contributions to anything

hi everyone! having a bit of a weird issue, laptop1 can ssh to pc1 and pc1 can ssh to laptop2, but laptop1 cant ssh to laptop2 ("no route to host"), I used to be able to ssh from laptop1 to laptop2 until like 2 weeks ago, nothing has changed afaik
Checked that /etc/hosts doesnt interfere, checked IPTables... look good
they are all in the same network btw

what if you traceroute from laptop1 to laptop2? it's unlikely but possible that you have a static route overriding the route to that particular ip
and by same network do you mean same subnet?

This is what I got:
> traceroute to 192.168.1.10 (192.168.1.10), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets
> 1 Stephen (192.168.1.2) 3077.053 ms !H 3076.841 ms !H 3076.747 ms !H

so it dies after the first hop?

yeah but I guess it makes sense, its only the router between these 2 machines
I do run docker on laptop1 but checked the networks and they are all on 172.x.x.x (the laptops are on 192.x.x.x)

7:10 PM
it should still make it to the destination. What does the traceroute from pc1 to laptop 2 look like?

pretty much the same:
traceroute to 192.168.1.10 (192.168.1.10), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets
1 192.168.1.10 (192.168.1.10) 427.970 ms 428.055 ms 428.036 ms

no that actually made it to the destination
it seems as if pc1 is directly connected to laptop2 where laptop1 has a router between them

oh sorry yeah... ehh.... hmm... well laptop1 and laptop2 are connected via wifi, and pc1 is ethernet, but should it make a difference?

What is 192.168.1.2?
I'm guessing pc1 is just using layer2 to find laptop2 where laptop1 is hitting a layer3 hop for some reason. Maybe you just need to flush dns on laptop1

laptop1: 196.168.1.2
laptop2: 192.168.1.10
pc1: 192.168.1.7

7:16 PM
but that wouldn't make sense either...especially if they are all on the same switch
oh so laptop1 is actually dying locally on that traceroute. I wonder if there is no default route setup on it?

Hm... Im afraid I dont know how to check that

ip route or ip route | grep default

it did, when I grepped this is what I got:
default via 192.168.1.1 dev wlp2s0 proto dhcp metric 600

it's most likely something simple
please do not throw sausage pizza away

man that was creepy... Im eating a hawaii pizza, there's a sausage pizza in the freezer :P

:p It's a mnemonic for the OSI model:
Physical, data-link, network, transport, session, presentation, application

lol!! never heard it before but its great! =D

It seems unlikely to be physical since pc1 can reach both but it probably wouldn't hurt to reconnect to the wifi on both and ensure you can still connect back and forth

7:42 PM
thanks for the help Jesse :) at least now I know the problem is in laptop1. I need to go for a while, will probably come back next weekend if I dont manage to fix it
have a good one man!

You too, good luck
