The linked round table discussion is also quite interesting.

@FaheemMitha are you any good with visualizing data?
If so, maybe you can help me here.

@terdon do you know what hardware is required for multiseat setup?
Not really, no.

@mikeserv can you please come here?
@mikeserv hi
I just lived booted in arch and did pacstrap /path/to/root base base-devel --force and it used my Arch LInux's cache for packages and reinstlaled many packages but it didnt solve the problem
right. the point is not to use the target's packages. that's why I suggested those other options.
how come you only now got around to it, though?
@mikeserv in past I had to reinstall OS many times due to many reason, I was afraid using pacstrap would harm my current installation
i doubt it. the worst i would think it would do is replace some config files in /etc w/ defaults - which is why i suggested you back that up - but otherwise (provided you have not installed any packages provided in base or base-devel from non-standard sources) it should be largely a no-op.

@mikeserv from where I can get the default configs in /etc ?
18:56
well, they're already there. just backup /etc before you run it.
Like tar -cf- /etc >/tmp/etc.bak.
@mikeserv ok did with sudo cp -ra /etc/ /back/up/location
or that.
@mikeserv I will run that command later and report back to you here, thanks btw
sure. lemme know. it might not work, but its what i would do at this juncture.
and it shouldn't hurt anyway.

I apologize for this edit which you ended up reverting, @Gilles. I thought for sure it was a typo on your part that inverted the meaning. I still don't understand though, actually. You'd list security.debian.org if you don't want security updates and omit it if you do?

@terdon I'm not sure if visualising the data is the best way. If you already know what your criteria is, why don't you use an optimization routine to select the "best" result for you?
Visualizing is more used in interactive data analysis when you are trying to look for patterns. Which does not appear to be the case here, unless I have misunderstood what you are trying to do.
Though (disclaimer) I'm certainly no expert on the subject.
@Celada yes: if you don't want security updates, list s.d.o as a site whose packages have a priority that's too low to be used except upon explicit request
