If operating system comes with linux kernel then it is called linux-based OS ; right?

@Pandya I'd go so far as to call it Linux, not just Linux-based.

9:17 AM
@JennyD what do you think about Android?

@Pandya I rarely do.

9:39 AM
@JennyD Why should operator learn several different syntaxes to perform the most simple tasks? I guess, people keep using shell for of this reason, even if they don't articulate it. Shell is a language you're supposed to use to control your device. The fact that it is inexpressive is nothing but a design flaw of Unix.
@JennyD ...As a device owner, I perceive OS as a mere interpreter of my intentions to use the device. And I'd certainly prefer only to learn one language for that purpose. :-)

10:26 AM
@derobert hey, I got +5 upvotes for my OS answer.

@Braiam If I am not wrong, you had been moderator on U&L right?

10:39 AM
@Pandya No.
I think U&L has six mods. And that includes everyone who has ever been mod, afaik.

10:54 AM
@Akater What exactly are you trying to argue against? Because it doesn't look like any reasonable response to the text you're linking to.

New people in here it's nice
Hello everybody :)
It's been a while

hey @Kiwy, long time no see...

Yes indeed @je
@JennyD :)
how are you doin g?

11:10 AM
I'm good, fairly busy... I'm working with PKI right now, which I find very interesting

A clooegue also work with those little thing, it's looks pretty tricky

It's not so little :-)
yeah, pretty tricky, lots of things that can go wrong... and most of the big issues aren't technical problems, they're problems with people and processes

"a good user is a dead one"
they are the problem most of the time :D

11:26 AM
Can anyone help me with solving this problem ?
http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/202908/gedit-start-problem-in-kali-linux

11:43 AM
@Kiwy not just users... with PKI usually the main problems is with managers who cannot comprehend things like "separation of duties, yes that means that one person can't do everything, yes that means you'll need to have more than one on-call team"

@FaheemMitha To determine possible reasons, I asked on meta but downvoted gradually. Finally that seems useful.

4:11 PM
@KSdev When you have a question, just ask it, if anyone can/wants to answer, they will.
@Pandya Reasons for what?

@Pandya Sorry, I don't follow you at all here.

@terdon refer first para of meta.stackexchange.com/q/259315
@FaheemMitha ok; no problem.

4:26 PM
@Pandya Well yes, mods can step down like Mattdm did here, or (very rarely) they can be kicked out by SE.
Other than that, you're stuck with us for life.

@terdon mattdm stepped down? Maybe I heard about it, but I forget now.

Q: stepping down as moderator

mattdmI think the time has come for me to step down as a community moderator here. I never ended up being as active as I intended to be, and now I have a new job which is going to leave even less spare time. (I do plan to stay active and answer questions, particularly around Fedora!)

Sorry about that, wrong clipboard

Bte, I find you always helpful! @terdon

:)

@terdon Thanks. I think I read this at some point.

5:37 PM
@cuonglm 1) sorry about that! 2) Why do you prefer \0? Is it more portable?

@terdon: Yes, \0 is specified by POSIX
and actually, in my Debian, -d'' doesn't work :)
Ah, -d '' worked but -d'' didn't

@cuonglm Yes, the space is needed.
Sorry about the confusion!

np

So how would I add a NULL? \\0?

@terdon: You can't

5:56 PM
Damn!

@JennyD Nothing explictily against anything, I merely suggested why people keep demanding a lot from shell.

8:55 PM
anyone here?

9:38 PM
probably.
