@derobert Thank you. Right. The few lines of code, in the linked page:
echo "Activating RAID device."
if [ ! -e '/etc/mdadm.conf' ]
then
echo "DEVICE /dev/sda[0-9] /dev/sdb[0-9] /dev/md[0-9]" > /etc/mdadm.conf
mdadm --examine --scan --config=/etc/mdadm.conf >> /etc/mdadm.conf
mdadm --assemble --scan
fi
...look to me as a short "script". They don't look like one-liners.
And they seem to do exactly what is needed, don't they? Search for a conf file, if file exists ( -e ) then return TRUE and do whatever is instructed.

Hi All
INPUT_FILE=`ls -rt $MY_DIR/FILE.*.xml|head -1|xargs basename`
I wanted to execute the 2nd command (`head -1`)only if the first command is successful. How do I improve this command ?
You wanted me to ask this as a Qstn ?
@Gil

@NikosAlexandris Yeah. Look like they would help, if added before whatever is attempting (and failing) to assemble your array.
