Wow, I received some help from "rh1" in the "funtoo" irc channel.
It is required to: rc-update add mdraid boot
At least, now, I see some line in the boot process referring to raid, md-something. Unfortunately, it is red! :-(
The Array isn't assembled. Manual activation works, as usual.

I am backing up everything, and give up. I think the best thing to do is to "so much nicer when there's decent backups, no need to fix things, just write over an oops." @derobert @Gilles another (last!) question, although I have a full Back Up of my data and can proceed to build a RAID 1 from scratch:
I "found out" that disk sdc is an "ms-dos" partition table while disk sde is a "gpt" partition table type. How important is that?
Asked this in #linux-raid but no replies yet.

the driver just knows that the volume starts at a certain location on the disk and has a certain size. It doesn't care why it was told to look at this location

Anyhow, I am after a clean RAID 1 from the scratch.

Seems the boot issue is resolved by loading "mdraid" to run at boot level.
I hope I know now what I am doing. Onfe finished, I am all open on restructuring my Question, giving an Answer to all questions or close it if it needs be.
