Hi

rumor has it that broadcom may spend up to $60 billion for vmware. Looks like it wasn't a mistake to buy that stock after all

General question: if I can do something with two relatively simple steps, vs one complicated step, which way should I do it?
The something being a bit of programming.
jesse_b
C) You should write it in 100 very complicated steps in assembly
Faheem Mitha
@jesse_b That was a serious question.
jesse_b
It was too vague to answer really
Faheem Mitha
PS: I'm not sure I know how to do it in one complicated step, though it might be possible.
@jesse_b Well, just asking what kind of approach people prefer.
jesse_b
Complicated and simple are also subjective terms and could mean different things each
Faheem Mitha

Roughly speaking, more code vs simpler code.
jesse_b
Simple to read doesn't always mean simple operations and vice versa
Faheem Mitha
@jesse_b I don't think simpler vs not so simple is such a controversial criteria.
jesse_b
also less code often doesn't mean more simple code. Writing things more explicitly often requires longer code but is much easier for others to understand
Faheem Mitha
Or replace simpler with a more generic construction. Like something one might find in a textbook or a user manual.
@jesse_b Less code often means more complex code.
But of course the downside is more code to maintain.
@jesse_b What stock is that?
jesse_b
vmware

Oh.

@FaheemMitha The answer is "yes". Yes, as in, yes, you should (probably) do it. And that's the only thing one can say without any context.
