@FaheemMitha Are you around?

1 hour later…
1:59 PM
@PrabhjotSingh Hi. Yes, for the moment. Going to have dinner shortly.
How are you doing?

@FaheemMitha Hello.
This would be off-topic here.
csvawk '1' incorrect.csv >test.csv
Then this works. sqlite> .import test.csv data

2 hours later…
3:58 PM
@PrabhjotSingh Are you suggesting alternatives to the syntax I was using in my answer?
Also technically nothing is off-topic on Chat. Though if you started a long discussion on the merits of Baywatch, the natives might get a mite restless.

@FaheemMitha Ah. Pamela Anderson wallah. Useless.

@PrabhjotSingh What's useless?

@FaheemMitha No. You answer is good. By your answer at least space before column goes away. But csvawk may be used. This formats the csvfile.
@FaheemMitha Baywatch. I have seen 2-3 episodes.

@PrabhjotSingh Why does the CSV file require formatting?
@PrabhjotSingh Ah, Baywatch. I've probably watched some episodes too. A long time ago. I don't really remember. Anyway, it was just an illustration.

@FaheemMitha I know nothing about databases. You are so intelligent. How can I suggest alternatives? I can't compete even with you feet.

4:06 PM
@PrabhjotSingh Sorry, I'm not following this at all. Feel free to make a comment on the answer if you wish.
I'd actually appreciate a confirmation (from anyone) that I'm actually answering the question asked. I'm not completely sure.
That question is arguably an illustration of why CSV is a less than ideal format. But I don't know of any ideal text alternatives. Tabs and spaces have their own problems. Also, you can't see them.

csvawk gives fee," fi","fo, fum".

@PrabhjotSingh Oh. And what purpose does that serve?

Then sqlite> .import test.csv data doesn't give error of 4 cols found.

@PrabhjotSingh Oh, you mean csvawk fixes the incorrect CSV file?

@FaheemMitha No. This doesn't.
Getting now: `# CSV_XS ERROR: 2034 - EIF - Loose unescaped quote @ rec 0 pos 10 field 3
`

4:17 PM
Also, I'm not finding a hit for csvawk on Debian.
Also, Google doesn't find anything.
Oh, never mind. You provided the link above.

@FaheemMitha Pardon me. This does not work.

@PrabhjotSingh It seems the intent of that utility is to convert CSV files for use with AWK.
Since I'm not an AWK user, I don't know what it's supposed to do.

@FaheemMitha This can be used as { print $1} or '{ print $col_name }. Without writing -F,

@PrabhjotSingh Oh.

2 hours later…
6:33 PM
So my BIOS settings for Fn key behaviour got flipped... without me doing anything. Not weird at all.

6:51 PM
I've heard of bit flips, but not BIOS flips. Do you have a precocious cat?

I did experience a cat-on-keyboard situation earlier... but that was in gnome. It would be barely more plausible that the BIOS config can be changed with a keyboard mash than the config changing on its own accord.

thought I'd skip past the conspiracy theory level of Stephen and firmware manipulation

Well I have been critical of some nation state actors in Slack

Today's random link. The state of inequality in India.
Somewhere between hair-raising, and really hair-raising.
Entirely coincidentally, Oxfam India was recently denied a license to receive funds from abroad by the "government" of India.
