I need to install Grep 2.5.1a on my system for my LFS build, and from perusing the Makefiles that came with Grep 2.5.1a, I couldn't see anything hunts down existing versions of grep, and removes them.
The install notes also say that it will install by default in /usr/local/bin, rather than /bin, where grep currently exists. How should I resolve this? Just tell it to install in /bin, and hope it overwrites the current grep executable?
I have a snapshot of my VM in case anything goes horribly wrong, but if I can get any advice before taking the plunge, that would be ideal.
