I'm working on a python web app that generates Microsoft Word documents and then sends it to the user. This will be running on some linux server, and I was wondering what location on the filesystem is best practice to store these files. I did some research and it looked like it may be /var/lib/myappname but I'm not sure

@Jfach Where to store the generated Word documents? Somewhere under the web server's path (you should be running the web server in a chroot anyway).

2 hours later…
5:18 PM
Hi everyone

5:46 PM
Hi @PrabhjotSingh

Hi @FaheemMitha How are you? Still alive?

@PrabhjotSingh Yes, still alive. Otherwise, not great.
How about you?

I ve read Gandhi's 9 books. you are right when you say eccentric thing

@PrabhjotSingh Only 9 books? I thought he wrote tons of stuff.
Lots of articles.

@FaheemMitha 9 books in last 4 days
@FaheemMitha now i can say some if his ideas still relevant but nit all

6:00 PM
@PrabhjotSingh Oh, you've read 9 of his books in the last 4 days?
I didn't know he wrote books. I actually thought they were, mostly, journalism and essays.

@FaheemMitha you are right. journals are essays are compiled in books.
you cant agree with him on everything.
@FaheemMitha you remember i once said "i don't want to reclaim our lost civilization"
what is internet of things? there is lot of this in press.

@PrabhjotSingh The Internet of things ("IoT") is when companies make household appliances that for no good reason are connected to the internet.

@Kusalananda hi
Google home an example of IoT?

6:18 PM
@PrabhjotSingh I don't know what Google Home is. Have a look here (top hit for "IoT examples): beebom.com/examples-of-internet-of-things-technology

@Kusalananda understood IoT. good examples especially PBS.twimg.com

6:38 PM
@PrabhjotSingh I remember.
@Kusalananda And then have major security issues.

@FaheemMitha BTW why British press writes "Ms Teresa May"?

@PrabhjotSingh Why shouldn't they?
@Kusalananda How are you doing today? Did you get some rest?

But Why not Mrs.

@PrabhjotSingh Ms. is short for both Mrs. and Miss.
Although she's mostly a miss.
... so to speak.
@FaheemMitha Yes, but I have a backlog. Feeling a bit more on top of it now though. Thanks for asking.

@PrabhjotSingh Ms. is a more neutral term.
Some women don't like either Miss or Mrs.

6:49 PM
@FaheemMitha some even prefer Mx if I am not wrong

Since men have the neutral term Mr., which doesn't differentiate between unmarried and unmarried, women think they should have one too.
@PrabhjotSingh Who do? I've never heard that term.
@Kusalananda Actual work backlog? Or U&L backlog? :-)

@PrabhjotSingh Oh.

@PrabhjotSingh Yes, I see.

6:56 PM
@FaheemMitha first time I used wikipedia

Looks like a mostly British thing.
@PrabhjotSingh First time you've used Wikipedia? How is that possible?

@FaheemMitha mostly you use this in chat. Today i used this first ti.e in chat.

@PrabhjotSingh ti.e ?
Oh, you mean time.

@FaheemMitha I edited getting to know question. Have you seen it?

@PrabhjotSingh No. One sec.
@PrabhjotSingh I see you've added a gigantic photo of yourself.

7:01 PM
@FaheemMitha now getting to know is complete.
In fact my friend captured this. the. i thought this should be posted in that answer.

@PrabhjotSingh Adding a photo really isn't compulsory.
I see one other photo of a human in those answers.

@FaheemMitha I answered that question only 'cause you asked me to do so. I hold you and Kusulanana in high esteem.

@PrabhjotSingh It's good (in theory) to have people write answers there. The idea is to try to foster community spirit.
Though I haven't noticed that it makes a difference. In fact, many of the people who wrote answers there are probably no longer active on the site, though I have not checked systematically.
Actually, I'm not active on the site, though as you can see, I'm active here in chat.

@FaheemMitha chat too is part of site.
I find chatroom more interesting.

@PrabhjotSingh Actually, that's not the case. There is the site, and then there is chat.
Some sites don't even have chat rooms, I believe. Or at any rate, not active ones. It's not required, but most of the bigger/more active sites do.

7:12 PM
@FaheemMitha on mai site many questions and answers(new) go over my head. I find older question that i could understand.

At any rate, I think within Stack Exchange it's regarded as an add-on.
@PrabhjotSingh mai site?

main site.

@FaheemMitha Sleep backlog. Sorry I was in another window.

@Kusalananda Oh, right. Sleep backlog.

Been doing a few command line argument questions today.
Passing things properly to commands, building up lists of arguments, passing things between scripts, etc.

7:17 PM
@Kusalananda I continue to be impressed by your energy and dedication.

@FaheemMitha thehindu.com/opinion/op-ed/… do you agree with?

@FaheemMitha It totally depends on the users. The last couple of days were a bit dry for me.

But it seems you don't answer questions on Stack Overflow or Ask Ubuntu.

@FaheemMitha I do a SO question every now and again. I haven't even registered with Ask Ubuntu.
I'm not really that interested in Linux.

@PrabhjotSingh That's not related to "sleep backlog". :-)

7:19 PM
:-)

@Kusalananda Fair enough. But I expect even AU gets shell script questions.
I mean, if you're collecting them, or something.
@PrabhjotSingh Do I agree with which part?
One can agree or disagree with a statement, not an article.

@FaheemMitha I wanted to know from my statistician friend that data science is technology or statistics?

@PrabhjotSingh Ok. Yes, I agree with the author that "data science" isn't exactly statistics, though it might contain statistics.
And I'm not a statistician. I do have a statistics degree, though.

@FaheemMitha he himself in my opinion is not sure. that's why i asked you.

7:44 PM
@PrabhjotSingh It's true - it's posed in the form of a question.
But in any case, statistics is really about trying to understand and analyze the structure of data. Often to make predictions.
"Data science" can also involve such things as the management of data.
He's also right about the importance of cleaning data.
That's a big part of why people use databases.

@FaheemMitha in coming days data will replace people.

@PrabhjotSingh I don't know what that means.

I mean data will be superior than humans.
@FaheemMitha Why google is interested in Flipkart?
They want consumer bahaviour data.

@PrabhjotSingh Sure, but that isn't the same thing as what you said.
That's just corporations trying to make money off data about consumers.
People matter. But maybe not to corporations.

7:59 PM
@FaheemMitha I wanted to say every human would be reduced to some megabytes.

@PrabhjotSingh Not literally, I assume.

@FaheemMitha of course, not literally. even kids don't talk in literal sense all the way.

@PrabhjotSingh Ok. Glad that's clear.
Unfortunately, I agree that it often seems that people don't matter. Only profits matter.
It certainly seems that way in India.
Bombay is, in my opinion, downright scary.
I suspect the rich countries of Western Europe, for example, are a little better.

@FaheemMitha Prabhjot wants to say something but he writes something else. then you correct him. Then he clears anything
@FaheemMitha I beg to differ. you are right about Bombay. but other cities too are not far behind.
you somewhere said there is not social connect. why no social connect here. just 'cause of maximizing profits.

8:39 PM
@PrabhjotSingh Why are you talking about yourself in the third person? :-)
@PrabhjotSingh I don't know about other places. But I expect you are right, that there is not that much difference.
Well, it's a scary world out there.

1 hour later…
10:00 PM
I haven't seen Anthony for ages. Though he's still idling here, so at least his computer is running.
I use "seen" in a purely virtual sense, of course.
