Unused votes quotas should roll over with some kind of decay algorithm. Mondays are rough since I don't do much work over the weekends, but that's when a lot of questions and answers roll in. Catching up on Mondays leaves me with no votes before noon even rolls around.

Q: Recover files from corrupt DVD

user3671I have a DVD+RW containing a lot of images and videos. Multiple DVD drives fail to read or mount it. The instructions apply to a video DVD, not a data one, so the "split"...

Q: running script with ". " and with "source "

Tim I was wondering if the following two ways of running a bash script are equivalent? . ./myScript.sh source myScript.sh Are they both running the content of the script instead of running the script, i.e. not creating a subshell for running the script? Thanks!

Q: How to bind "ß" to Meta-s?

Björn PollexI am using Carbon-Emacs on MacOS X 10.6 with the US-International keyboard layout. Usually, I can use Alt+s to print the letter "ß". Q: Native and non-native support of thread/process programming in Linux?

Tim POSIX thread (pthread) and OpenMP are both libraries for thread programming. But is it right that they are not native to Linux, i.e. they have to be installed by user later? Q: Output sound to /dev/dsp

Q: since when relatime is a default mount option?

What is the first Linux kernel release to set relatime as a default mount option?

@Gilles window-management seems best to me because it's the terminology most used in the Unix world.

9:47 PM
@Gilles I have to agree with @Caleb here

@Caleb @Tshepang You don't think there's a risk of confusion with window-manager?
Granted, anything is better than window (mea culpa, I think)

@Gilles Yes, there is. But that seems better than the other risks.
What about something like xorg-windows?
Aren't most of these going to be display technology specific? And specific to when a window manager is not necessarily involved?

@Caleb most of the questions aren't specifically about xorg, they're about X11
But x11-window feels confusing as well, “X Window (System)” is a proper name
So far window-management has my preference

10:04 PM
@Gilles People are less likely to tag with x11-window because they've never actually heard of x11, but still no worse than some of the other options. What about x-windows?

@Caleb No, I think that's going to be confused with / too

@Gilles Fair enough.
