@t0mm13b to be more precise, the error was: java.lang.SecurityException: Permission Denial: starting Intent { flg=0x10000000 cmp=com.android.phone/.InCallScreen } from null (pid=8127, uid=2000) not exported from uid 1001
The clue lies with the comment above But I just tried 'adb reboot bootloader', and it worked. which shows that adb is indeed recognizing the USB connection, but not in fast-boot mode which is where this answer comes in...
Sounds like the udev rule for the fast-boot is absent!
Do this: lsusb wit...
its awful, not right, manufacturers should give clear guidelines, "if you want to unlock boot-loader/root, please send me your serial number and email address and we'll disclaim any warranty null and void" if you tick here
I think that's how it should be ^^
when "registering" depending on how it is on their said website
the only thing I can say is this that could work against you
1) ramdisk's default.prop would have ro.adb.secure=1 (meaning its secure, if it was 0, its insecure, so could su from within adb shell) and 2) MTD partitions, is that present on the tablet or some proprietary /emmc/ thingy?
worst outcome, you'll have superuser.apk in the /system/app directory and will show up on the drawer but no su
If you happen to have another nice idea: I'm open for it. As said, the device is going to be returned either -- and they know that I'd look for this :)
Nah, looked really nice! And ADB is back up and running. Just had to pluck the line after boot, and connect it again -- didn't come up with the plug in.
As somebody said: "Plug-n-Play only works for 50%. To be more precise, the 'plug' part always works..."
OK, nuff. 2:30am, my wife's going to kill me... Thanks again for your support! Guess we only failed on the signature. Whenever you get another idea, we can try that -- as long as the "broken device" is still with me.
@ce4 I posted an answer to a question. It got 2 upvotes, the question got deleted. If none of the questions/answers I answered/posted got deleted, I would probably be at 4,700 rep by now...
I'm thinking of getting a Nexus 7 - is that a good choice? It's my birthday on Monday ;)
Everywhere is sold out of the cheaper 16GB ones, except Tesco (a supermarket) but it costs £20 more there, and it would be better just to get the 32GB one for £199.
Hang on, will be back later (going to reboot to complete Ubuntu install)
Do you just want to try it out or do you want to really install it and get rid of windows?
@LiamW ^^
Wubi is only good for trying out Ubuntu without really installing it. (I.e. the Windows stays there and Ubuntu runs from a disk image file on the Windows partition only)
It's pretty cool though. You can reboot to Windows and uninstall the Wubi app and all is gone

@Flow: As for that weird question: It's a) language barrier and b) seemingly a not too tech-versed user I gave in and commented, let's see if he comes back. If not => delete
That other guy yesterday (I invited to chat here) was also a bit stressy, thought >3k on SO is enought reputation to be sure one doesn't ask the most basic things
