Arrrg this is bugging. I'm having a moral dilemma in an answer I'm drafting is it "a USB..." or "an USB..." I'm leaning towards the first one because it sounds right when said out loud, but the 2nd one looks right written down

@cYrus: That's really not standard behaviour. Sorry, not really sure, what can be done to "fix" this.

Another idea: What if you de/reactivate USB-Debugging? Does it work then?

Well, looks like this can't be fixed without either upgrading the firmware (if there's one) or rooting and trying to fix it yourself

maybe the restart of adbd is broken

if you go the rooting way, try to add "ro.secure=0" to "/data/local.prop". ADB restarts with root rights then, maybe it's just a silly permission thing.

@EnesKuray: That's not possible. You can always shut it down this way. It's baked right into the firmware

Did you try slowly pluging it in?

Reason: If you boot, the USB has maybe time to settle, if you plug, it get's instantly asked by linux

USB has 4 pins, the 2 outer ones are +/- and protrude longer than the inner 2 data pins

if you do it slowly, there's a time gap between the pwr-event and the data-connected event
