AIQ
12:39 PM
@ColleenV This is embarrassing, the other candidates have actual proper academic degrees ... If this wasn't necessary for a mod-position what's really the point of bringing it up ...
No one would take my answers seriously anymore. Instead of judging the quality and content, folks are going to be like "Hey, this guy is not a native speaker!"
This is what I've wanted to avoid for so long ...
Really I hate the question ... what does it matter what English qualifications one have/???

1:29 PM
@AIQ It doesn't matter. And I don't think many people on SE give a hoot about credentials when they're reading a well-written supported answer. I can say I've got three PhDs and no-one could verify the truth of it.
I think how candidates engage with the person asking is more important than the question. You're my top candidate, so I'm sorry if posting that question was upsetting. I was trying to get more people engaged with the process.

AIQ
Oh okay no problem

I think the fact that you're the only candidate whose responded directly gets you more votes than whether or not you have a degree.
Mist people would prefer a moderator that answers their questions about things happening on the site instead of just answering questions about English.
Regular community members answer English questions. Moderators make judgement calls about what to do when someone is rude, or a newbie is having trouble asking well-received questions. They don't teach that stuff in University;)

Q: Mod Election 2021 Open Discussion

ColleenVI'm posting this as a place to ask additional questions of the candidates. Feel free to edit this post to add your question. I would recommend following this post after you add a question to get notified of updates. Answering any of these questions is completely optional. Answer as many or as few...

@AIQ I appreciate the new question and the two answers to it so far. I hope other candidates will answer that too. If anything, your answer shows candidness, honesty, and seriousness!
@AIQ But you are right, that question could be interpreted wrong and viewed as implying qualifications are necessary. They are not. I agree with you.
@ColleenV I also feel conflicted about that question. The question was never voted on, but I think AIQ and gotube are to thank for taking it in the right direction.

@EddieKal I think constituents should be given a lot of leeway in the questions they can ask. Asking a question doesn't imply anything on its own other than you're curious about the answer.
I don't care about credentials, but maybe someone does. They should be allowed to ask for facts that aren't so intrusive they violate the CoC. Candidates are free not to answer
@EddieKal If you wanted to ask your question that didn't make it on to the questionnaire because the answer might affect your vote, I think you should. It shouldn't hurt to ask.

@ColleenV speaking of which I was kinda curious why that user didn't post on meta themself
but I haven't had the time to check the election chat
@ColleenV well, the problem is that just makes the new questions more of a select set. case in point, this new question. I would've felt very conflicted about it had it appeared earlier, and would've downvoted it probably. But I only saw the post after AIQ had given his answer, and I liked how AIQ approached it and by extension the question itself

J.R. hasn't been around I guess ...
Neither has Em.
or Glor

@EddieKal Because they asked in chat not realizing that the candidates weren't in the room. I posted it to try to draw attention to it. Any community member should be able to ask about whatever they meed to know (within the coc limits) to make an informed vote, regardless of whether other people like the question.
The questionnaire was about what the community wanted to know. Those aren't the only questions allowed.
I'm trying to inspire more participation.
If someone wants to ask a question separate from my post, I'd be glad to see it. I'm trying to make it easier for people to feel comfortable asking, not set up a parallel questionnaire.

Yeah I agree. I feel like you are reiterating something I already agreed with...

Q: On user vote questions, do we count the net votes including downvotes, or just the upvotes?

gotubeThe question about whether or not to continue pinning accepted answers at the top of the answers list is closing soon and it's a very tight race. In fact, it's even closer than it looks. Right now, according to the votes we can see, maintaining the status quo is winning 17 to 16 over change. But ...
