@EddieKal Are you around? There's a user vandalizing their question and rollingback just raising a flag, it doesn't lock it.

A: What is it called when somebody's words sort of echo in your mind?

MarkMYoungresonate (verb) 3rd person present: resonates produce or be filled with a deep, full, reverberating sound evoke images, memories, and emotions. I find on many occasions that my grandmother's words still resonate with me.

I looked at 4 dictionary definitions and I couldn't find a definition of resonate that means "to think about sth over and over again"
If I'm right then this answer maybe misleading ...

@AIQ What's misleading about it? The definition they posted doesn't say "think about over and over again".

AIQ
Then does it answer the question? The definition of resonate is evoke images, memories, and emotions.
which is not the same as echo
if something keeps playing in your head ... like a memory ... I don't think resonate is the word for that ...

Well, it's in the same ballpark. I think it's not quite right, but I don't think it's so wrong that there isn't a native speaker that might use it that way.
I'm really picky about nuances of meaning. Resonates isn't a memory, it's more have a present moment thing evoking a feeling.

Yes I agree ...

So I wouldn't upvote it, but I don't necessarily think it's a wrong suggestion.
that deserves downvoting

but it doesn't have the nuance of kept running through my head
which is what the OP wanted ...

Well, the author can see that because they've included the dictionary definition in their answer.
I think it's worthwhile to have suggestions that might not necessarily be right on the nose just in case the author of the question didn't do a great job of communicating exactly what they wanted.
I've found more than once that how I understood what was written on the page was not what the author intended exactly. Communicating in text is hard, especially with a language barrier.

@ColleenV I agree with this. But I still think someone or the answerer need to make the distinction clear, it isn't a 90%-100% match ... which I think some of the other phrases are ... there should should be some kind of explanation ...

@ColleenV taken care of.
thanks

@EddieKal Thanks. I thought enough rollbacks would lock it automatically, but I was mistaken. Sorry if that generated a bunch of flags.
@AIQ Well resonate is related to "echo" so I don't see an issue. I think ruminate isn't much closer even though the definition indicates it's repeated, because that tends to be a conscious decision to think on something carefully, not having a flashback to something someone has said before. I still think it's a valuable contribution though. I don't think there's much benefit to insisting answers be precise for word requests.
Someone else might find that question and want a similar but slightly different word. If the answers are diverse, it will help future readers more than if every answer is only posted if it exactly matches the author's request.
