I once saw a documentary on BBC about how they tried to build an apartment block (in the USA?) with huge buildings and it became a failed project because of rampant crime.
They probably failed to provide the necessary infrastucture. Kindergardens, sports utilities, shops, hospitals.
Because in Russia millions of people live in such housing areas and get along very well.
But judging from the documentary, one might think that huge apartment blocks are evil.

@CowperKettle I think you must have seen a story about the US public housing projects. They were badly mismanaged, and there are some real horror stories about the living conditions in them. The US government isn’t very good at helping the poor.
There are some very nice apartment complexes with shopping and restaurants mixed in with homes, I just have never lived in really big ones.
When I lived in an apartment, they were usually broken up into separate buildings and I only knew my closest neighbors because I rarely lived there for more than a year or two.

I want to ran a marathon. I feel almost recovered after the 33 km run on Saturday.
I need to buy some food that will be eatable during the marathon, and prepare a tiny water bottle.
Maybe I should take honey with me. But I'm not sure where to put the honey in order not to get all dirty with it.

@CowperKettle Grapes might be a good choice. They aren't messy and they have a lot of water in them.
@CowperKettle Put it in a bad made of bread, and eat the bag on the way
It's gonna leak anyway
I'd caution against being overenthusiastic about marathons
You'd burn yourself out, like I did
I didn't run a marathon but I kept pushing until one day I was sick of it for a while

This is officially the hottest 14th of July in history in our city

@M.A.R. Yes!
I'm having 2 or 3 days off before running a long distance.
And I now only run once in 2 days.
I lack the knowledge on how to properly ramp up distances and how many days to rest.
But I try.
@ColleenV Grapes is a great idea! Maybe raisins too.

@CowperKettle This page had some suggestions for snacks for hiking : koa.com/blog/…
A package of tuna and some crackers might be good
I don't know if you have something like this where you are, but it is easy enough to put together at home.

Word of the day: pygidium
What are you translating this time? O.o

A living root bridge is a type of simple suspension bridge formed of living plant roots by tree shaping. They are common in the southern part of the Northeast Indian state of Meghalaya. They are handmade from the aerial roots of rubber fig trees (Ficus elastica) by the Khasi and Jaintia peoples of the mountainous terrain along the southern part of the Shillong Plateau. Most of the bridges grow on steep slopes of subtropical moist broadleaf forest between 50m and 1150m above sea level. As long as the tree from which it is formed remains healthy, the roots in the bridge can naturally grow thick and...
@M.A.R. I just recalled the saintly Father Pygidium
A Russian traditionalist politician was debating on a radio with a democratic journalist. And the journalist in the heat of their argument said "How can you call yourself a Christian if you have never read the works of Father Pygidium?" The politician said "Of course I've read them!" and the journalist revealed the true meaning of the word.
It has become widely known and the Russian Wikipedia article for pygidium is routinely vandalized.

The visible minority population consists mainly of the following groups: South Asian, Chinese, Black, Filipino, Latin American, Arab, Southeast Asian, West Asian, Korean and Japanese.
Wow so I am a visible minority, huh didn't really think about that until now ...
