@AIQ You didn't know?

AIQ
not really
about the term

Don't worry. They can be racist while being racist and they can be racist while being PC.

AIQ
who?

@AIQ To me, an emphasis on "visible" means something like you're stamped with it and have to do deal with it. Like some hospital wrist band or, yes, a token of slavery
So what they do these days is disproportionate employment of these visible minorities. Positive discrimination.
It just widens the gap, sensitivizes the issue.

@M.A.R. Not only disproportionate employment of "visible" minorities, but all minorities
> The BC Public Service believes an inclusive workplace benefits everyone. We aim to attract, develop, promote and support a diverse workforce. You can help us understand the demographic composition of our organization. Please tell us if you belong to any of these designated groups: women, Indigenous people, people with disabilities, visible minorities and LGBTQ2S+ individuals.
I don't know how I feel about this. As an economist, I say give the job to whoever deserves it - no discrimination.
I mean whoever can perform it most efficiently
or something

@AIQ Feel anger. The only thing this achieves is more divide and hate.
People would feel that if your skin color is different, it must be the reason you got the job over someone more qualified but of brighter skin.

@M.A.R. I have been enraged by a lot of things lately ... it isn't good for my health ... I am pretty tired from it actually. You're right, I don't want anyone saying "Oh, you got in here through the diversity quota" ... or something like that ...

9:04 AM
@AIQ The world can be a depressing place if you look around too often. I'd suggest finding something else and diving into that world
A hobby, a novel, something.

This hell may end on Monday
While in Tabriz, it will be hell on Monday
Do you have air conditioning, MAR?
@AIQ A walk makes me feel better, especially in the park. I take a sheet of poetry, printed out, and memorize a poem bit by bit, repeating it like a mantra. It has a very pleasing effect.
@M.A.R. A barbell biceps curl!

I haven't seen @snailplane in a long while
@snail!
Doesn't work

@CowperKettle I'd caution against diving into barbells. May cause head trauma
@CowperKettle After a week of absence, the person becomes 'unpingable'.
@CowperKettle sure, don't need it
@CowperKettle Don't worry, you'll return to your cozy -25 degrees soon

> After converting to Christianity and giving all his possessions to the poor, Price grew depressed and died by suicide.
George Robert Price (October 6, 1922 – January 6, 1975) was an American population geneticist. Originally a physical chemist and later a science journalist, he moved to London in 1967, where he worked in theoretical biology at the Galton Laboratory, making three important contributions: first, rederiving W.D. Hamilton's work on kin selection with a new Price equation that vindicated group selection; second, introducing (with John Maynard Smith) the concept of the evolutionarily stable strategy (ESS), a central concept in game theory; and third, formalizing Fisher's fundamental theorem of natural...
> Price grew increasingly depressed by the implications of his equation. As part of an attempt to prove his theory right or wrong, he began showing an ever-increasing amount (in both quality and quantity) of random kindness to complete strangers. In this way, he dedicated the latter part of his life to helping the homeless, often inviting homeless people to live in his house.
1130 km since the start of the year.
It's hard to run at +30 C. My nipples were hurting after the run because of the salt that soaked the t-shirt and then got concentrated I guess.

Q: Is Indian English accent considered a recognized accent?

user366312Is the Indian English accent considered a recognized and authentic English accent (like American, Welsh, Scottish, Australian, Caribbean, etc) in the ESL teaching and learning community? Why or why not? My question is related to teaching and learning. Most people prefer American or British (RP) a...

@M.A.R. PC camouflages subtle racism. Some people are anti-PC, especially around the time of the last U.S. presidential election, because they hate anything that curbs freedom of racist expression
