A line from the wiki page on absolute construction has me scratching my head wondering if there is more than one type of absolute construction. @snailplane
In linguistics, an absolute construction is a grammatical construction standing apart from a normal or usual syntactical relation with other words or sentence elements. It can be a non-finite clause that is subordinate in form and modifies an entire sentence, an adjective or possessive pronoun standing alone without a modified substantive, or a transitive verb when its object is implied but not stated. The term absolute derives from Latin absolūtum, meaning "loosened from" or "separated".Because the non-finite clause, called the absolute clause (or simply the absolute), is not semantically attached...

Its cited sources include a link to the Merriam Webster definition of "absolute" merriam-webster.com/dictionary/absolute

a: standing apart from a normal or usual syntactical relation with other words or sentence elements
the absolute construction this being the case in the sentence "this being the case, let us go"
b. of an adjective or possessive pronoun : standing alone without a modified substantive
Blind in "help the blind" and ours in "your work and ours" are absolute.
c. of a verb : having no object in the particular construction under consideration though normally transitive
Kill in "if looks could kill" is an absolute verb.
This seems to be the source of that line on Wiki. But are b and c also absolute constructions or are they absolute something else?
All of the examples on that wiki page fall squarely under non-finite clause
That wiki page also cites CGEL Huddleston, Pullum (2002) pp. 1265-1266
I have checked those pages but it seems CGEL only considers the non-finite clause case to be the absolute construction. Is that wiki page wrong?
Or could it be about the absolute construction in general, in all languages?

@EddieKal Thanksss what is that?
R&R, military slang for rest and recuperation (or rest and relaxation or rest and recreation), is a term used for the free time of a soldier or international UN staff serving in unaccompanied (no family) duty stations. The term is used by a number of militaries such as the United States Armed Forces and British Armed Forces. The US Morale, Welfare and Recreation network provides leisure services for US military personnel. In the UK, the term applies to a type of leave granted to personnel during an overseas deployment which allows them to return home to the UK to visit their family. Service members...

@AIQ Congrats, but I do not know what you have defended? A thesis probably, right?
Does anyone happen to know about this book:
> Modern English Exercises for Non-Native Speakers, Part 2: Sentences and Complex Structures, 2nd Edition
Amazon does not provide a look-in feature for this book.
So, I am not sure for if that 's suitable for beginners, or intermediate, or advanced learners
@CowperKettle I am casually read crime and punishment every now and then. Sometimes I have to put it aside, it sometimes feels too much of a saddening read for my already challenging life!
@Cardinal It's a very good book! I also recommend Brothers Karamazov

@CowperKettle, Have you read the other two answers?
I'll have to add more details to my answer.... the other two answers are kind of misleading.
They think 'diphthongs' are 'long vowels'
Hey @AIQ
How have you been?
:D
@DecapitatedSoul Just glanced across them.
I've been busy translating a text about Acetyl-L-carnitine in depression, and there are still several paragraphs left.
Oh...
