What kind of adjective is overqualified?
I don't think it is related to "opinion". If a worker is overqualified for a job, then it is based on facts and not opinion

@userr2684291 I never said squid were fish. I said squid was a subset of marine life. That said, a person may have tons of problems but no shortcomings. Context is queen. Resistance is futile.

Q: Is there a way to measure progress in grammar skills?

petrichorI want to learn about all basic aspects of English grammar. I already has a book and tests, but It wouldn't track the progress in my opinion. For example, like in IELTS you can track your listening skills by doing same form of exam every time and see how your score grows. I want to find somethin...

@Lambie I thought it was just a lapsus. It makes no sense to compare A and B as part of C while comparing X and Y directly.
Ugh. Now I misread what you said. You said they're not comparable. Okay, we agree...
(Wow.)
Lol.
Hm, reading my reply, I just confirmed what you said. I wasn't disagreeing re squid and fish.

Anyone explain what the meaning of strain is in this question "Conversely, what might the strains on that foundation be if population continues to grow exponentially in the developing world?"
like is it asking what is the consequences the future have to deal with if the population continues to grow?

10:44 PM
Yes. Strain is something like stress.

@userr2684291 yeah is it asking like what we should to combat overpopulation or like the consequences of it?

It's asking about the problems in the developing world that the exponential growth of population is going to cause. What are these problems?
It's not clear what this foundation is. The problems might not be in the developing world; it's about this foundation and it having some sort of problems.

@userr2684291 Ok thanks!

@amanuel2 Something is said to collapse under the strain. Or break. The foundation experiences some of this potentially collapse-inducing stress.
There are dictionaries online, though, you know? E.g. lexico.com. You can look up words you don't know there.

Yeah i know, but I couldn't comprehend it correctly to my situation as I'm not a native, but thanks for the help!

10:57 PM
@amanuel2 There are also dictionaries for learners of English (non-native speakers). E.g. ldoceonline.com. They explain stuff in simpler terms.
