I want to ask a question about in-text citation in the main site. I don't know if that would be on-topic. Ideas?

Faxlore is a sort of folklore: humorous texts, folk poetry, folk art, and urban legends that are circulated, not by word of mouth, but by fax machine. Xeroxlore or photocopylore is similar material circulated by photocopying; compare samizdat in Soviet-bloc countries. The first use of the term xeroxlore was in Michael J. Preston's essay Xerox-lore, 1974. "Photocopylore" is perhaps the most frequently encountered name for the phenomenon now, because of trademark concerns involving the Xerox Corporation. The first use of this term came in A Dictionary of English Folklore by Jacqueline Simpson...

The War of the Bucket or the War of the Oaken Bucket was fought in 1325, between the rival city-states of Bologna and Modena. It took place in the region of Emilia-Romagna in northern Italy. The war was an episode in the over 300-year-long struggle between Guelphs and Ghibellines. Modena won the Battle of Zappolino (the only battle of the war), and the bucket remains in Modena to this day. A common myth surrounding the War of the Bucket is that it was caused when the Modenese stole a bucket from a Bolognese well. However, this is mostly incorrect, as the bucket was (according to most accurate...

@M.A.R. I imagine it'd be done in this style (one of my fave cartoons when I was a kid – in case you can't see it, it's Conan: The Adventurer).
Hm, this might be my new favorite song. I thought our version was as pumped up as it gets, but this is amazing. It's the robotic voice thingy that really pushes it to another level.

It appears Araucaria's also... distanced themselves from SE.

AIQ
who are they?

They've made a lot of quality contributions to both ELL and ELU. I believe they're a linguistics student.

AIQ
ohhh
I can't wait no more for the snow

11:31 PM
Do you like Christmas songs?

AIQ
I do generally, but omg this is like brain washing or sth - starbucks playing these songs all day long
I sometimes (often) study here
I like the chatter
helps me zone in

Lol. I can't stand that stuff.

AIQ
the noise from chatter is sometimes more helpful than a quite place with sudden noises that distract me

That's why you put on some non-distracting monotone music.

AIQ
which stuff?

11:38 PM
I mean chatter or public places. I mean I can't study there or anything. Library? Forget it.

AIQ
well I get to see nice people

Yeah, I like seeing girls there too, so I go, but I bring my earphones with, and then put on those nice monotone songs.

AIQ
Oh our Library is a hell - its suffocating
they don't prefer air condition
Oh our Library is a hell - its suffocating
no air condition
my university is "GREEN"
Yeh I do that to sometimes - when people around me are just too noisy
I play rainy videos on Youtube
And yes, it is pleasant to have conversations with strangers

I search for lofi hip hop radio. There are no sudden changes in melody or anything.

AIQ
oh they are great
for some reason those rain videos feel very peaceful to me
it calms me down
oh look ColleenV is online

11:43 PM
I'll give it a try.

AIQ
during Christmas time my city gets very empty-ish
after Final exams people go back home
and its soo quiet
I will sometimes go out 2 am and walk
best when it snows
absolute silence

@AIQ That's the best study time for me.

AIQ
yeh I was always more night person

11 p.m. to 4 a.m., I'd say. Especially if I woke up at like 11 a.m. and thus have enough energy.
I don't think it's got to do with night with me, it's just completely silent.

AIQ
I was doing that when I was doing my courses in the first two terms ... and during my undergrad
I meant that

11:47 PM
@AIQ What are "terms"?

semesters?

AIQ
yes
4 months

Isn't your undergrad split into semesters?

AIQ
I am in grad school
we call it terms
in undergrad which I did back home, we called it semester

So terms are for grad school and semesters are for undergraduate programs?

11:50 PM
that's where the word "midterms" comes from

AIQ
Usually that is how it is, I am not sure. I am speaking from all the websites of universities that I have looked at
@skullpetrol
it puzzles me

why?

I don't think there's a difference.

AIQ
when some courses (undergrad in particular)
have 3 midterms @skullpetrol
or even two - I am like then why say "mid"
@userr2684291 no difference

"triterms"

11:54 PM
I was confused because you said "first two terms and during my undergrad", thereby differentiating between them somehow (as if there were no terms during undergrad).

AIQ
oh haha sorry
I had 11 semesters in my undergrad
I mean I finished in 11

5.5 years?

How many semesters are there normally in your (country's?) undergrad programs?

AIQ
3 in a year
so I finished within 4 years

no summers off?

AIQ
11:57 PM
nope

Lol.

AIQ
we don't have no breaks
we don't have the tradition of taking terms/semesters off

No breaks, no brakes.

AIQ
people can but its not like how it's in US/Canada or Europe
and that is not a good thing

11:59 PM
People here work during summer breaks.

AIQ
I know

I think it's alright.

AIQ
I am going my grad degree in Canada
it's they way it should be
with breaks
