12:45 AM
Ok. How do you turn water into holy water?
@CowperKettle
Anyone?

2 hours later…
2:49 AM
@CowperKettle That’s awesome.

13 hours later…
4:16 PM
@AIQ Make holes in it?

4 hours later…

@PLL - it's difficult for non-native speakers to really grasp the typical use of "beast", and also notably "beast mode" unless you are "in to" the US sports scene, particularly football. — Fattie yesterday

Anonymous
Is it really that difficult to grasp?

Anonymous
I wonder.

No not really

Anonymous
Oh. Now I know!

Anonymous
Thanks, @M.A.R.!

8:02 PM
Yaaay! 🎆

Anonymous
Wait, is there a :yay: emoji? If so, where do I find it?

@snailcar I think there was this shortcut in Porkchat but apparently not. :fireworks: and :tada: work
🎉
Or is it in SamLiew's script? I forgot

Anonymous
Oh! I like it.

10:02 PM
Beast is a common-ish word in informal contexts, so I don't see why it'd be difficult to grok, even if one isn't "'in to'" the US sports scene.

10:17 PM
I'm not into American sports because they're slow as heck. The eggball thing is literally 10 s of action, 2 mins of ... I don't even know, lining up? strategy? commercials? referee decisions? Baseball takes forever as well. It's like golf. I do like watching golf because they wear these nice baseball caps, lol. Those are the sports I associate with the US.
According to this, an average professional football game "lasts 3 hours and 12 minutes, but if you tally up the time when the ball is actually in play, the action amounts to a mere 11 minutes".
Actually, 10 s was too generous: per the same source, an average play in the NFL "lasts just four seconds".
3 hours for a stupid game is also too much. That's also why I kinda disliked Endgame – there was no need to make the movie that long.

I was made to watch American football once.

It was very cold and I had trouble reading my book.

@snailcar That must've sucked.

AIQ
@userr2684291 how did you not include basketball there?

Anonymous
Basketball is the most exciting American sport.

AIQ
10:31 PM
a game can last 2 hours with the timeouts and other things, but total play time is 48 min

@snailcar I sometimes can't concentrate on my game during lectures.

AIQ
And I love basketball

Anonymous
Basically, you can determine the excitingness of a sport with a simple equation. Excitingness is equal to running-around-ness.

AIQ
I don't know when in life I will be able to afford a damn ticket

I don't associate basketball with America. It's not something exclusively played in America.

"beast" is a very common word even among non-natives
that guy is a beast, he says "hi" and the girls go "haha here is my number"

"Haha."
I suppose that's an acceptable/okay usage, but that's not where I'd expect to see beast used primarily.
Maybe what I'm trying to say is, it doesn't exemplify the usual meaning that well.

AIQ
I know, it was just an example
of an unsual usage
btw @CowperKettle and everyone ... How to turn water into holy water?
You boil the hell out of it.
On of my favorite things to tell myself - its a quote from Kobe Bryant. "But are you a different animal, and the same beast?"

11:02 PM
I misspelled a song title on YouTube, and I got some kind of sneezing–holding back fetish video.
I hate it when that happens...

AIQ
I had a five hour straight invigilation duty
today, it was brutal
5 hour of boring walking back and forth

I've never heard that word, thanks.

AIQ
which one?

Invigilation.

AIQ
Another one is proctoring

11:13 PM
Sounded like holding a vigil, but I never knew it applied to exams in particular.
I've heard that word, proctoring, before, but I didn't know what it meant.
Cool.
@AIQ I always thought it'd be kinda fun to monitor students and catch them cheating.

AIQ
its fun when its an hour or two
5 hours of walking up and down a basketball court is hell
that is where the final exams are held for classes of like 300 students

I figured.
5 hours sounds like a little too much.

AIQ
2 exams - 2 hour and 3 hour back to back
good workout

Have you caught anyone cheating, though?

AIQ
nope

11:18 PM
Next time.
(:

AIQ
ha ha. Good thing about it was that I got to eat 3 different energy/protein bars/cakes
it was a treat
from the professor

I'm sometimes disappointed when I see students cheating when I've studied hard for days.
Even more disappointed, of course, because it wouldn't be "collegial" to report them. I do think about doing it and fighting everyone for the rest of the academic year.

AIQ
Yes and it can be frustrating when they get away with it
I see them cheat all the time in their assignments

Ethical code violation, strike one?

AIQ
Well I am really very nice when a hard working student makes mistakes - I write elaborate comments and take away very little marks. But when I see people copy from each other in the assignments, I go "berserk mode"!
Of course, I make sure that I am right about it - I usually find they even copy decimal points and punctuation/signs
haha

11:30 PM
Hahah.

AIQ
no offence
- none taken
-some taken
what is it when its say "fully taken"?

Then it's a joke.

AIQ
but it's a joke when the response is "none taken"
but when someone is actually offended, like really offended, what do we say? "_____ taken"?

I mean, okay, it depends on the tone used. You can normally see or hear in their voice when someone's actually upset.
When someone's offended they'll tell you screw you.
Or something like sorry, but I DO find that offensive, so please don't....

AIQ
yes, that's the one

11:39 PM
I actually find that offensive, and I'd appreciate it if you...
When someone says none taken, that would normally mean they understood the underlying gesture / warning, and they didn't find whatever you said offensive.
I.e., they're acknowledging that you meant no ill intent.

AIQ
aha yes I know that, Those are short responses - I was wondering if there is a short one for "...but I DO find that offensive..."

11:55 PM
I don't know. Maybe fully could work. I'd say Fully taken, actually!, or Offense one hundred percent taken! might be okay. I'm not sure. I don't think it matters at that point. When you're angry you just say something that makes some kinda sense.

AIQ
yeah, you are right
