Hi @ColleenV. I can understand the perspective for putting ell.stackexchange.com/questions/219013/… on hold. But I think it's a somewhat subjective call.
I don't envy your job as a mod, and I really appreciate it, so I don't want to quibble. But it is a bit frustrating to find it closed while crafting an answer. 😢😢
Ok, I'm not really crying, but I think there are tons of great questions that
we could say don't show research or enough details, because we can take a plain reading.
I see that fumblefingers found a duplicate by the dame person, but this one now has an answer that I think is probably pretty responsive to the question, and covers the possibility that an unusual context could change the answer. Any ideas?
Maybe the person's a dame, maybe not.

@JimReynolds I am always able to be persuaded I made a mistake. In this case, the user has asked 58 questions and has only 133 reputation. That is a troubling pattern and I would like to incentivize them to write better questions.
I tend to reopen the question if the author shows almost any attempt to improve it, even if I have to edit in their comments myself
If you think it should be reopened and can get a couple other folks to agree with you, I’ll reopen it, but it’s not good for the site to entertain too many of these thin questions that make it necessary to read the mind of the author to guess the source of their confusion
Unless I close something as a duplicate my hope is almost always that the question will be improved and I can reopen it
If someone was searching for an answer to that question, how likely is it that they would be able to find it without using the exact same example sentence ?
