@CaptainBohemian Get a tennis racket, stand next to a big wall and train yoursel with hitting the wall as many times as you can. At my tennis club, we spent 80% of time "playing the wall".
@CaptainBohemian I like to climb women.
They have some natural landscape features that make climbing interesting.
And one advantage in climbing a woman is that you can do it alone, without a partner to keep an intellectual exchange while you do it. The woman can even serve as an intellectual exchange partner instead.
And if you get exhausted climbing a woman, she can cook a meal for you.

hunger trouble
nobody to bring a meal to me.
the home lord is a miser.
that's why the home becomes a ruin.
it isn't worthy coming back at all.
I just lack positon so stay here.
but here is a miserable place,
you can see how miserable it is particularly in Chinese new year, during which every household has gathering meals no matter how busy everyone is on usual days.
but this home still only has ghosts.
09:44
sigh

I was translating for 8 hours yesterday, and for 4 hours today

Which is better - trash container or waste container?
Chinese New Year is the Chinese festival that celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional Chinese calendar. The festival is usually referred to as the Spring Festival in mainland China, and is one of several Lunar New Years in Asia. Observances traditionally take place from the evening preceding the first day of the year to the Lantern Festival, held on the 15th day of the year. The first day of Chinese New Year begins on the new moon that appears between 21 January and 20 February. In 2019, the first day of the Chinese New Year will be on Tuesday, 5 February, initiating the Year...
The traditional Chinese calendar (officially known as the Rural Calendar [農曆; 农历; Nónglì; "farming calendar"]), or Former Calendar (舊曆; 旧历; Jiùlì), Traditional Calendar (老曆; 老历; Lǎolì) or Lunar Calendar (陰曆; 阴历; Yīnlì; "yin calendar"), is a lunisolar calendar which reckons years, months and days according to astronomical phenomena. It is defined by GB/T 33661-2017, "Calculation and promulgation of the Chinese calendar", issued by the Standardisation Administration of China on 12 May 2017. Although modern day China uses the Gregorian calendar, the traditional Chinese calendar governs holidays ...
Word of the day: lunisolar calendar
Lunisolar is a good word to use in a rock group name

I think funding is indeed the foundation of all intellectual endeavors.
Do you study now? I mean, do you spend your days studying, Captain?
I check a lot of research projects without delving into the detail at the moment.
I think there is really no time to study each research theme in detail before entering a research group.
because there is really too many.
and if you study one theme in detail, you have no time to study other themes.
but you don't really belong to a research group of that theme now.

encyclopedia2.thefreedictionary.com/vapor+deposition I have taken a coure vacuum sputtering in my undergraduate studies, but I didn't feel it much interesting. I prefer theoretical courses.
Wow, vacuum deposition.
I have a friend who worked at an electroplating plant.
It's very complex, she wrote a thesis in her university about this.
And is now continuing her study, post-Bachelor
She writes beautiful verses in Russian, I translated a part of one.
I have heard the great merit of vacuum deposition from my undergraduate professor whose expertise is thin film, but I have never felt great interest in working on this.
11:40
I would have been glad to have a diploma, and to work on something like this.
If I had money, I would throw away translation and start preparing for exams.
And enroll on a biotech course, and study in a university until I'm old.
This way, at least I'd be among people, and engaged in something interesting, learning something new.
I feel this kind of work is very boring because you need to wait for the deposition for long.
I passed the Russian language exam at 92%, Math at 70%, and my grade in English was 86%. I prepared myself to a Chemistry exam, but was too exhausted from combining Chemistry self-education and translation work, and I understood there was no chance of earning a living while studying.
And I did not go to the Chem exam.
I spent several hundred hours studying chemistry.
I have my time diary, with each day marked: what chapters I read, how much time it took, what problems I solved from the books.
That was idiotic. Next time I have some free time, I'll study programming.
At least you don't need a diploma to enroll as a programmer.
I haven't studied chemistry extensively for long.
Chemistry courses only occurs in the fiirst year undergraaduate curricula, and have no much use in my later studies.
Chemistry was my most hated subject during school years.
That made even a better challenge to self-study.
I would love to do some experiments with chemicals, but I have zero time.
If some unknown uncle in Australia dies and leaves me a fortune, I would just go studying, one university to the next, till the end of my life.
Why not?
People climb one mountain and go to the next. Why not studying.
11:55
I didn't like chemistry as much as physics in high school because I feel it too superficial.
but I still had chemistry on my undergraduate department selection card.
unfortunately I didn't enter that.
12:52
@CowperKettle The r seems to be a very confusing sound in English and in German too, LOL.
13:40
@Jasper The Germans also swallow their r's?

Q: How to solve the language problem in Ankara, Turkey?

A Schizotypal AngelI will start studying my Master at Ankara, Turkey soon. I don't know the language and I receive strange behaviors when asking help in English: For example, I start with "Merhaba" ("Hello" in Turkish) to warm up the conversation then I ask in English, but then they titter; I start by asking "...

After gaining some information in internet and from some people around I think I won't need practicing in Turkish. However, thank you for your help. :) — A Schizotypal Angel 16 hours ago
TBH it is kinda disrespectful
14:34
It's not disrespectful at all to ask other people whether they speak your language.
@userr2684291 No I mean spending years in a country without bothering to learn anything other than a "hello"
Can someone please answer this post:

Q: Throw/toss something in the air

It's about EnglishSo what should be used: Throw the ball up in the air. Toss the ball in the air. What should be used: throw up/toss?And should "in or into the air" be used ?

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ That's also not disrespectful, it's just stupid.
Any sufficiently advanced stupidity is indistinguishable from disrespect
But if their university enables them to use English or whatever language everywhere, why not.
And if they intend to spend time there only.
14:46
He hasn't yet started his 2-year course, so he has had but little time to learn Turkic.
And sometimes locals can be haughty.
But since we don't know whether he relays true information about the behaviour of Turks, it's a un-unswerable question.
Maybe there is some anti-English mood there now, maybe not. Maybe he is mis-understanding their looks and gestures.
In some countries it's considered weird to be smiley.
Maybe he thinks that people without the standard smile are negatively .. attituded to him.
Have a negative attitude
I'm losing my knack with English.
@CowperKettle Frowning at Cowp
ah! for English
I don't wanna throw up in the air. It sounds . . . messy.
@It'saboutEnglish Toss/throw a ball (up) in(to) the air.
Thank you @userr2684291
14:59
Concerning the difference between toss and throw... I suggest you consult a dictionary. Try the LDOCE.
Toss to me always suggests something akin to a coin toss.
So less... Strength and sorta careless.
Yeah, if I'm tossing a ball, I'm not aiming it
But isn't it usually "flip a coin"
I don't know which is more common.
Word of the day: It's a toss-up (used when you do not know which of two things will happen, or which of two things to choose - "I don’t know who’ll get the job – it’s a toss-up between Carl and Steve.")
So many people in this room!
15:04
I'd have to check but I'm on the bus right now and I really dislike using my phone to do any research like that.
I have never used the internet on my phone. I believe phones are for calling and texting, not for internet usage.
What phone do you have?
I have a 50 dollar Android phone.
I use it when there's nothing better to do.
I'm an addict.
I use it all the time.
15:06
Of course, all phones in most countries now have internet connectivity, but I refuse to use the internet on my phone.
Well,I'm growing up using internet
That is because the phone is so small I cannot imagine typing and reading seriously on it.
Meaning, the Internet has been around all your life?
@Jasper Mine is also small, now I want a bigger one.
15:07
I'm 15 .....so yes...
Even old men and women use internet on phones, but not I. I am therefore older than old.
Maybe I am 200 years old, LOL.
Born in 1819?
@CowperKettle The iPhone X onwards is very very expensive!!!
1819 was a good year, the poem To Autumn was written in that year, considered the best in English language.
15:09
The iPhones can cost more than a Windows laptop, or indeed, more than an Apple laptop.
I broke a 2013 model Iphone
I'm a language addict
I jogged too much with it, and the screen came unstuck.
And I'm am iPhone addict too....
15:10
I do not like smartphones. I prefer the dumbphones of the past but they are out of print, LOL.
What country do you live in, It's?
I have nobody to call at all, so never feel urgent need of a phone besides recruiters.

@Jasper You can always buy a dumbphone, they sell them on .. person-to-person selling websites
And what about this:
15:12
@CowperKettle They are likely unusable where I live, because the phone network may require a higher end model phone.
I am on a wasteland.
@Jasper I have a 2006 model Samsung, it still works
And works quite well. It's a dumbphone ))
@CowperKettle I remember many years ago I used a Nokia 8250. I like the build quality. Simple and serves the purpose.
@Jasper Sold for 2400 rubles here. That's about 40 bucks
I don't know why Windows phone never took off. People seem to use Windows for computers but still prefer iPhones.
15:14
but I want to have access to internet anytime though I don't have urgent need for phone besides recruiters.
I can't even buy a Windows phone where I live in the stores here.
I have a Windows phone, Nokia 520
It's nice )))
But there's no useful software for it
So it lies unused.
I use it as a reader via WiFi
Apple charges a lot for the phones here, because I live in a rich rich rich country.
I mean, most people are rich, but I am poor.
me too.
I live in a ghetto.
everyone has warm shower facility at their home besides me.
@CaptainBohemian If you feel lonely and sad you can talk to me.

Pla help me out.......
so it's difficult to reply the stadium keeper why I shower there.
@CowperKettle Is the spicy food there very spicy?
@Jasper In Russia, no, there is no tradition to add a lot of spices into food
@CowperKettle There is a Russian word that sounds like spicy-bo, LOL.
15:20
@It'saboutEnglish I think the most common way to say this would be throw a glass of water in someone's face.
Yes, spasibo means thank you from Spasi (tebya) bog (may God save you)
@CowperKettle Other than spasibo, there is also privet, LOL.
I have never imagined to make a living by translating.
my msc advisor makes money by correcting English for Chinese physics journal.
@CowperKettle I never noticed.
Hm, and privet might be from prijatno, "pleasant". Let's see...
if people know my home has no access to a warm shower over a decade, it may become a news.
I wonder if there are people being the same like me in the whole city I am in.
15:30
My guess was off the mark.
Haha.

Q: Происхождение слова "привет"

mirokolitsaОбычное слово, которое употребляется сто раз на дню, но каково его происхождение?

The page fails to load
They say that vet is an ancient root meaning roughly "to speak"
16:02
i feel listless after a meal.
16:31
@CaptainBohemian Will your landlord fix some water heater in your apartment?
@Jasper no. because my landlord is my home lord.
17:17
chat.stackexchange.com/users/200400/userr2684291 And what about the rest? I mean no one's going to throw water in her face. She's going to do it herself. Her friend on the phone asked her to do that.
chat.stackexchange.com/users/200400/userr2684291 So won't "pour" or "splash" work too? Like: Pour some water on face. Or Spalsh some water . Or Splash yourself.
:48840528
Maybe sprinkle would work
But I would study English the other way: just read a heap of books.
And the necessary words and collocations will percolate into the brain.
18:09
@It'saboutEnglish If you type "@", and then a letter, you would see a suggestion of users whose names start with that letter. For example, if you type @userr, it'd ping Croatia (Aw yiss, got it right this time). If you click on the broken arrow to the right of each message, and type something, it'd post a reply to that message
@It'saboutEnglish This reply didn't work because you didn't type anything after clicking on the arrow
@It'saboutEnglish I wouldn't splash anyone's face unless I'm the protagonist of a gory zombie movie. First thing that came to my mind was "splash water on your face"
Like in a dramatic, Bollywood fashion
@CaptainBohemian Sorry, what do you mean by home lord?
@Jasper From what I gather from previous conversations, she's like a mini-emperor
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ That just made things more confusing.
Classic me I guess
A mini-emperor? Probably like Fröken Hildur Bock
18:34
@Jasper the person who built the home.
one of my Facebook friends from Monogo got a scholarship for studying undergraduate school in Japan. He originally got scholarship to study in Korea.
I don't know if the scholarship he applied for is easy to get because I have long finished my undergraduate studies and have no interest in it, but I feel he got it without great difficulty disregarding he has support when applying for it, like a sound housing and others.
18:50
> Always believe in learning. Resilient and Persistent And never Procastinate what comes in front of me
From a user's page.
as long as there no hunger and there is a sound housing with access to a warm shower, procrastination won't happen in studies.
