Learning Japanese takes more time in part because of its unique and complicated orthography.

That's actually true no matter what language you're coming from, although if you can read and write Chinese that does give you a big step up.

Merry Christmas.
@JasperLoy where do you live?

@Man_From_India That is something I cannot share in SE chat. Others may guess, but I can neither confirm nor deny, and just ignore their guess. Usually, I just say I am in Antarctica, as a joke.

@JasperLoy I am sorry for asking that. But I asked you because you wished christmas today. So wanted to know where in the world it's 25th today. Anyway considering your location privacy and the history of guesses people made about it and the way you handled it, I am sure you are not even from Earth :P are you an alien? Or a Superman hiding among us? :D (just kidding please don't mind)

@Man_From_India I usually say greetings before the day happens. For me, if you say it on the day itself, it is too late.

> Brains, I argue, are not squishy digital computers – there is no information in a neuron. Brains are delicate organic instruments that turn energy from the world and the body into useful work that enables us to survive. Brains process energy, not information.
I don't understand this

@CowperKettle Looks interesting, maybe I will read it later.
14:07
@CowperKettle I see the oppressive heat has abated. (:
14:41
@CowperKettle From what I've gathered, it's an informal description of a video feedback loop applied to the human brain, which thereby generates consciousness.
> What is special about the conscious brain, I propose, is that some of those pathways and energy flows are turned upon themselves, much like the signal from the camera in the case of video feedback. This causes a self-referential cascade of actualised differences to blossom with astronomical complexity, and it is this that we experience as consciousness.
Where "actualised differences" are defined by the author as energetic differences with their corresponding actions (observable effects).
@JasperLoy you appears very interesting. I guess u r from some UFO currently v;)
@JasperLoy I think you're from Hong Kong, being a native speaker of both English (with obvious BrE influence) and Chinese, and because you look Asian, and because you live in a time zone that's, if I recall correctly, around 10 hours ahead of mine.

Word of the evening: cerebral folate deficiency (Turns out there are antibodies that block the folate receptor and you get the deficiency in the brain while your serum remains folate-enriched)
In a study on treatment-resistant sufferers of schizophrenia, "Fifteen of 18 patients (83.3%) had positive serum FR auto-antibodies compared to only 1 in 30 controls (3.3%) (χ(2)=21.6; p<0.0001)."
Of course, the study was small-scale.

@Man_From_India I do believe there is life in this universe other than on our planet. I do believe there are aliens.

@snailboat Do you usually capitalise earth? I usually don't, and write it as earth.

@JasperLoy I usually capitalize it when I'm using it as a proper noun, without an article. When I'm using it as a common noun, or in set phrases like what on earth, I don't capitalize it.
