I find the expression/phrase/idiom, whatever it is, very imaginative and poetic. I got reminded of it when I looked up excited, and found it in the LDOCE's thesaurus section.

@user62015 They're all pretty crappy but A is the better of the two, as far as I'm concerned. A and D both have the problem that they add extra information that you can't tell without having actually heard the conversation.
