@VictorBazarov Victor honestly, SE's stuff is one of the hardest things in the universe to try and learn. There is this Meta Stack Exchange which is supposed to be the Q/A wiki of the stuff you need to know about SE and its features, but finding something fun to read among the funny punny comments is next to improbable.
But questions tagged with FAQ are good to read for a start.

@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M It peaks at the beginning of the 20th century, not the middle; and most of those hits are medical uses of "corrosive sublimate", an old name for mercury bichloride, used as a topical antiseptic.
