@rydwolf LMAO
Honestly yeah
@rydwolf I think you might understand us even less now
or at least me specifically
@lyxal The 11 byter for that square challenge is pretty funny at least :P
@UnrelatedString ?
00:33
I know it got bumped recently and that's why I saw it
one sec
r/whoosh
1
A: Make me a square!

lyxalKeg, 11 bytes ??? ? ? ??? It really just replaces the ?s with the input! Alterate 11 byter ¿3*:& ? ? &

That
@lyxal Oh LMAO
:p
00:45
@rydwolf Like... does not consciously wanting a relationship with them mean that you aren't still attracted to them? The people you describe and single out as "attractive and cool"?
I actually happened to hear some stuff kinda related to this the other day, about how sometimes the feelings just don't all align with each other
00:57
@UnrelatedString Like I'm attracted to them but not sure on a higher level if I would actually want a relationship
Like how a box of cake mix is attractive but the actual mechanics of making the cake and then eating all that sugar are enough to give me second thoughts on actually making me pursue baking it
Yeah that's what I assumed :P
like the idea of elevating a single person to that level where they're so many parts of my life and so involved in it seems like it'd either require an unrealistically compatible person or a superhuman level of communication
Ohh
I actually can relate a bit to that
@emanresuA A more subtle thing I could do is bring up someone else I have a crush on
Is the reason you need to communicate this that they're just, like, continually clinging to you despite a lack of interest?
01:05
sort of yeah
the root problem is probably that I'm still bad at saying no, so I went along with all his suggestions of stuff to do when we first met (watch a few episodes of a TV show that was a gay rom-com, show him the dorm I live in, go to the dorm he lives in and talk for a long time, etc.), which probably comes across as strong interest, even though I did say at one point I wasn't looking for a relationship (not really true)
Ahhh
LMAO
Yeah good luck
(how did that even happen???)
Also his life plans are, in his words, to be a "trophy husband" and he was very overtly offering this to me
strange guy
@UnrelatedString we were at an event for a club I'm in and he mentioned there was grilled cheese upstairs and naturally imma get some grilled cheese then he mentions we need to go to his dorm to get some superglue (it was a crafts thingy we were doing) so I see his dorm real quick then I don't remember how but after the event was over we ended up walking to my dorm (I think it was to show him the basement), then we went back to his dorm a second time because he waa really hyping up this tv show
Worst part is that the last time something like this happened involved a board game night in Stever, the same dorm which was the "upstairs" which had the grilled cheese. And the board game night coincided with grilled cheese night. So the same RA saw me both times and probably assumes I'm a terrible person
01:13
also one time she waved at me and I assumed it was someone behind me and it wasn't and so I just kinda coldly ignored the wave by complete mistake
@rydwolf interesting
@rydwolf Also wait what would the basis of that assumption be LMAO
@emanresuA His parents are both ivy-educated law professors, this may be a factor
also no offense to the many decent and mature nepo babies who are probably out there but if your parents are both ivy educated lawyers I like you like 50% less than the average person as a baseline and you gotta make up for that
Real
@att He can if nothing else be entertaining at times :P
@Ginger <3
01:40
@UnrelatedString why does this look so microsofty
also, today in HNQ of the Day:
how the heck is 'my head seems to have fallen off' even a valid question
like in which game does that happen I need to know now
11
Q: My head seems to have fallen off

DaemonsI was playing Dead Cells again recently, after a couple month hiatus, and something horrible has happened - my head has fallen off. I stood up from the game temporarily in the starting section of the game. The controller was upside down when I came back (I’d left it like that, I suppose), so I’m...

dang
@rydwolf hopefully he didn't mix the grilled cheese up with the superglue because I've seen that happen before
... how?
to be fair it was like 2am
and we were making sandwiches except the superglue was nearby so they kind of just picked up the superglue instead of the cheese packet
01:45
I repeat my question: how?
I'll tell you later
lecture calls
02:07
fucking hate differential equations
making an assignment due at 10pm
what even is that
on a wednesday too
i need to stop procrastinating
I'm mostly just mad I actually have to do work I guess
but also poorly designed work
I'm gonna lose like 5 points on my final grade just from not having time to finish these stupid online assignments due at 10
@rydwolf Ordinary or partial?
@Redz ಠ_ಠ
02:38
@Redz I mean, tbf anyone could make that mistake
Always gotta be careful around super glue
It has finally arrived
Imagine getting liquid shipped in a bag
That would be funny I think
159ml of t-shirt goodness
03:14
@emanresuA so you see you know how some people eat grilled cheese sandwiches with ketchup
and because we had done like an art project really recently we had the superglue bottle out
and coincidentally the ketchup bottle is a similar shape to the superglue bottle
and my friend likes putting the ketchup on before the cheese (idk why) so they grabbed the bottle of superglue and started putting superglue on bread
thankfully they figured out it was superglue before we started cooking
but yeah that mistake exists
03:29
@Redz okay now see I was willing to go along with the whole story and pretend that it was a completely normal situation to use super glue but really? Ketchup?!?! on your cheese sandwich?!?
Nuh uh
That's not based
totally serious
ketchup on a cheese sandwich
their regular combination is vegemite, peanut butter, ketchup and grilled cheese
@Redz that's what makes it bad
@Redz you didn't need to make my opinion of their tastes sink further then they already were
I mean I've tried peanut butter and ketchup
it's literally not that bad
Sure sounds it
03:56
?????????????????
I can barely stand ketchup on its own, granted
04:10
@UnrelatedString no no that's code golf
We're talking about abhorrent cheese sandwich combinations
lemme think
what about cheese and jam
@rydwolf though I am glad you brought this up because I've been having some confusing thoughts lately :P
but that's a story for another day
@Redz Depends on the cheese and the jam :P
Because some absolutely pair well and are, like, known to
I asked my friend and they replied so fast what the hell
with 'cheese, chocolate spread, blueberry jam, gravy and tomato sauce'
like what the HELL
why does danish grilled cheese with blueberry bacon jam exist like why is this a thing
??????????????????
WHAT
...actually that sounds alright if it's like a REALLY lightweight cheese
04:21
dang you almost kept the amount of question marks the same
or like... Maillarded to hell?
one extra the second time
@UnrelatedString no clue what you're talking about I can't eat cheese :P
Maillard reaction
04:21
looking it up
The one that turns stuff brown in a good way
cool
okay I got a response without cheese
potato chips, mustard, ketchup and mayonnaise

1 hour later…
05:28
@Redz do not let bro cook ever
You will end up with third degree tastebud slaughter
And the judge will sentence them to 80 billion years in jail where the only food is stuff you can't combine in weird ways
Everyone will visit the jail cell as like a tourist attraction and say "that's the bingus with the weird taste. Very cringe"
05:44
@lyxal what food can't you combine in weird ways
Bread and eggs
For example
Or bread and butter
Or just pick any single thing and ban everything else
fair
@lyxal boiled butter :D
@lyxal torch the eggs
I wouldn't call those weird
I don't mean cooking methods I mean taste combinations
What if I make, like, a mosaic of bread and butter
That still doesn't constitute a taste violation
05:53
wait that's so sad
okay have you tried though
ice cream with vinegar and chocolate sauce
No
it's actually decent you should try
No
Uhh, I'm cooking tonkatsu for dinner today.

2 hours later…

Tool to draw flow graph and convert into programming language? GPT suggests tools that can draw but can't generate code, or reversed tool, aka. tool where input is code and output is flow, both of which do wrong thing
09:05
@l4m2 visual paradigm can do that if specifically you want said code to be java and also you need it to suck the entire time
09:32
@Themoonisacheese visual-paradigm.com/tutorials/flowchart-tutorial No support to generate code
then idk
i know we had a class that involved making UML diagrams in VP and clicking the "generate code" buttom, but i would totally understand if they decided to scrap that because it fucking sucked

2 hours later…
11:44
@Redz revolting
12:38
@Ginger i'll have you know peanut butter and ketchup is surprisingly good
[citation needed]
okay fair
12:50
is samurai sauce a thing outside france?
13:29
Never heard of it
so probably not
13:56
@UnrelatedString hand reveal??
Random math question, say you want to randomly choose n booleans such that x of them are true. If you were to choose booleans with a uniform probability distribution (where p=x/n) until you hit x trues or n-x falses then fill in the rest with falses/trues (respectively), would that give you a different distribution from if you did it "properly" (e.g., randomly shuffling a list of x trues and n-x falses)
My gut says yes but I do not know why :P
14:26
They do seem to differ by Monte Carlo simulation
14:37
@UnrelatedString oh well since we're on the topic of slightly unhinged but actually good sauce combos
samurai sauce is ketchup, mayo and harissa mixed together
Interesting
@rydwolf yes, because in the first instance, earlier bits have a higher chance of being true than later bits, except when p=1.
that does sound pretty good
also unhinged french food inventions: the french tacos
I have heard of those
They do sound good and I want to actually try one some time
but it's still so crazy that they're called tacos LMAO
yes
essentially they are burritos without rice and beans and with fries
and copious (depending on if you called the chef bossman or not) amounts of cheesy sauce
@UnrelatedString what's even more crazy is that they're not called "Taco" in the singular, they keep the s
I'm so illiterate
I wrote a whole paragraph for a discussion thing about how a paper didn't spend enough time talking about mitigations and there's a whole page dedicated to it that I skimmed over
@Themoonisacheese AAAAAAAAAAAAAA
@rydwolf happens
Problem is I just like do not have much to say about these papers
Like "paper good 👍" does not hit 300 words
14:52
ikr
@DannyuNDos Ooh, nice
@Redz Honestly that does sound alright
Vinegar's versatile like that
Probably not as good as chili crisp though
@Themoonisacheese Are you sure?
Converting to binary, the mean is muuuch lower
so probably :P
Take n=3. The first two booleans will always be chosen uniformly, so we only need to worry about the last one. If both previous booleans are false (prob=(1-p)^2), the last one will always be true. If both previous booleans are true (prob=P^2), the last boolean will always be false. If the previous booleans are opposites (prob=2*P*(1-p)), the last boolean is just chosen uniformly. So you get a probability of 0*(1-p)^2+p*2*p*(1-p)+1*p^2, which is...oh wait not p yeah
15:25
glad i could help you get there on your own
i was trying to write that out but then work happened, and while i insist on fequenting TNB exclusively during work hours, i still like my job
@rydwolf sounds like a fantastic use-case for chatgpt tbh
15:43
hello!

1 hour later…
17:11
@lyxal ive had italian dressing shipped like that

Q: How many dots are there?

(finally) went to look at mathematica 14.1 release notes and
interesting
very interesting

would be very chaotic for golf but it looks like it uses internet
maybe if one day they include a local model

2 hours later…

@att OH
wow yeah if that gets a non-online version that would be crazy
22:25
Did the third "lab" assignment for my whatever this compsci class is called class in like an hour
Hating the circuit design software a lot less overall
I have what is probably the first ever “99 bottles of beer” program in Qdeql! It’s 478kB
Circuit Wizard?
but also bothered that large plexer type components don't let you configure bus output instead of making you MANUALLY merge all of the outputs
which I have refused to do, in favor of using multiple stages of bus plexers :P
@Bbrk24 Congrats! amazing
@Bbrk24 woah, nice!
@Bbrk24 Ayy nice :p
22:28
It’s generated from a ~7.5kB template file using a template engine I wrote myself
@Bbrk24 Nice :p
... on the one hand, it's not software from the mid-90s. On the other hand, it's written in Java
@Bbrk24 i’m going to try to golf this template file, and probably also have to change the punctuation so that it meets the spec on this website’s challenge, and then I’m going to submit that as an answer
22:29
Ah, I see, it's more for logical circuits than physical ones, makes sense
tangentially, I find it kind of funny how what is probably the most comprehensive Qdeql test suite ever, lives in the Trilangle repository
7
My main two gripes are
- you can't open the open file dialogue more than once without closing and reopening the program for some reason
- every time you change a tunnel label it gives you a dialog box asking if you want to rename everything else with that label and every time you make a tunnel end it has the last label you used so this happens constantly (and this is one of the few things you have a keyboard shortcut for too!!!)
Anyways the really funny thing about the plexers in this assignment was we were supposed to use a decoder for something... when that same thing also has an enable bit... which you can just demux directly instead of ANDing with every single output bit
...though given this is specifically a MIPS-style register file with an unwritable constant $0, maybe we're actually supposed to AND it with the index LMAO
Fun fact: the officially recommended mitigation for Hertzbleed is just "change how you do computation so that the power usage can't be analyzed"
4
we love intel
wow
ahahahahahahahahahahahahha
wow
22:44
that's impressive
I'm currently working on a project involving a Hertzbleed-like side channel on CPUs without frequency scaling
Hertzbleed minus hertz is just bleed I guess
Cool! I'm slightly jealous of your cybersecurity classes with actual practical stuff
(and first-year too)
Everyone I talk to here is impressed I'm in the class as a first year, it's so funny to me that I just kinda showed up one day and it worked out
*here as in cmu
Ah, nice :p
@Bbrk24 Here's the template file if anyone wants to take a look: github.com/bbrk24/template-qdeql/blob/main/examples/…
23:01
@rydwolf Everyone I mention having been in high numbered electives as a freshman to is just confused 😭
and I'ma be in fourth-year courses as a first year student which'll be interesting
