Q: Story where the main character is hired as a FORTH interpreter. We pull back and realise he is a computer program living in a circuit board

Jeff ZeitlinI read this story well over 30 years ago (probably over 40 years ago), and don't remember many specific details. However, I do recall the overall story, and would like to find it again. The main character answers a want ad, and takes a bus or train trip to the new job. On his way there, the lands...

interesting
What does FORTH stand for? Mentioning that might be helpful. — Nu'Daq 2 hours ago

Q: Find a datetime that works for everyone

bigyihsuanGiven a list of datetime ranges, write the shortest program/function/code snippet that returns a single datetime that is within all ranges, or some falsey value if no such datetime exists, i.e. a datetime that is in the intersection of the input datetime ranges. Input Input is a possibly empty li...

I sure love having to pay $10 and wait multiple days to get emailed a link that's only valid for 10 days to a PDF with what classes I've taken
very solid system very necessary level of difficulty
My high school counselor was a total bro and she just attached my full transcript to a vaguely related email reply in case I ever needed it

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

roblogicMexican Hat Challenge, #メキシカンハットチャレンジ The hashtag #メキシカンハットチャレンジ* appeared on my X/twitter feed today. Japanese hackers have been drawing the "Mexican Hat Potential" 3D curve on all sorts of devices. My investigations also found this helpful picture of a guy wearing one of these "hats". The hat s...

Any piano music designed for both beginner 4-hand and advanced 2-hand?

13:49
@l4m2 presumably something like Bach's Fugue 1 of the 48 would work, it has four voices, normally played by two hands, but I imagine would be a whole lot easier played by four hands
14:07
14:20
Still not designed for 4-hand and hands would likely conflict

why does Bluebook's installation directory contain a photo of a coconut
and of course it doesn't start if you delete it. amazing
well, this was from memory, as I can't find my copy of the 48, although I have to admit I haven't even looked for it for about 50 years

I love how both Pitt and CMU send out emails every time a violent crime happens near campus, I'm sure that has a great effect on students' mental health
I got a text every time the police were called on/near campus
@Seggan That's good, but yeah people lost power even way up here, and the winds were so strong that billboards were being torn apart. The last time a hurricane was this bad this far inland was Ike in 2008
Bought a new bike
finally
Their used bike selection was awful this time around so I ended up with a brand new bike and three maxxed out credit cards
It's got hydraulic disk brakes and cool stuff like that but admittedly I liked my $400 used Cannondale more than this brand new $1400 Specialized lol
@Bbrk24 Speaking of, @rydwolf, have you guys been hit by it at all in PA?
Not a bit, we got some light rain the other day but I didn't even put two and two together that that would be related
People lost power in ohio?
Yes! Over a hundred thousand in the Cincinnati area alone, and as far north as Lake Erie
23:53
This is not skibidi rizz, holy shit
Wow
Is it just all to the south of PA I guess?
wait what, the path went north through the country? I had no idea hurricanes could go anywhere near that far inland
It is going north. The worst of it is past Cincy now but has yet to reach CLE
I figured it went through like...the east coast
@rydwolf Then you'll love the map of Ike's path
23:56
TIL
it specifically avoided the east coast and somehow made it all the way up to the St Lawrence
I'm not much of a weather guy and I guess it shows 'cause I figured they never went much further than like the distance from Houston to Austin
Sandy also made it to Ohio, but it wasn't as bad as Ike
...do hurricanes just really like ohio
is that the ultimate goal of being a hurricane
No, these are just the two worst hurricanes up north in my lifetime
Then again, I pulled up the map for Katrina and
