wait there's a browser extension? I just have it set as my search engine lol
I mean the bangs also work if you go through regular ddg but yes there's an extension which sets ddg for you, and provides additional tracker protection
interesting
how is ddg nowadays btw? wasn't there some controversy a while back about them and microsoft tracking or am I thinking of something else
i too remember something about ddg but don't remember microsoft being involved
i think maybe it was something to do with like deranking pirate sites or something lol
00:09
Looking it up, yeah there was apparently a deal with MS where MS trackers weren't blocked in searches
Back in 2022
At least the app tracking protection blocks Microsoft
00:25
oh, I don't think I sent this here when I made it:
00:44
I submitted an assignment with screenshots of code written in Comic Mono recently
are y'all proud of me?
01:21
No, you should've committed fully and used comic sans
(I challenged myself to code in comic sans for an entire day once, and worst part is, it wasn't even that bad)
01:35
ok what
just check out comic mono and its actually not that bad what is going on my sanity aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
I have a friend who only codes in Comic Sans
@Seggan ikr
it's actually good
@RydwolfPrograms ikr
ok but what if
comic serif
it's actually not that bad
01:46
the fact it isn't even that bad is a testament to its versatility
01:58
anime once again ruining the lives of programmers
Testing something rq (am a rydwolf sock)
Thanks :p
Okay I did the funny on three rooms that shouldn't have much overlap in userbase: TNB, SOCVR, and Tavern on the Meta
Hopefully that's 25 unique IPs which aren't bots :p
it's strange seeing so many charcoal members in SOCVR which makes sense but small world
I did the Heap too, since it was busy
02:15
@RydwolfPrograms What funny? Just the (removed)?
if you check SOCVR and the tavern you'll find out what it is
yeah but that's work
Plus aren't those not even on chat.se
02:18
Basically you can force anyone in chat's browser to make a request to an arbitrary URL by adding #.png at the end
You can use this to exploit certain CORS attacks, bugs in older browsers, overly restrictive content filters (there was a point in time where anytime someone cross-posted an image from Discord I'd get kicked from my school wifi for 5m), etc., and I'm curious if making requests to https://codegolf.stackexchange.com/q/[q id]/[user id] links could get you the 25 unique visitors for an Announcer badge
ah, yet another image-related security vulnerability on stack exchange
Nah this is a classic. Remember when we made a private room to test the chat image IP tracking thing? This was one thing I had in mind for this at the time :p
I still haven't gotten the announcer badge, I'm guessing I'll have to wait until the script runs tho
If I don't get it within 24 hours I'll post it and leave it up, and if I still don't get it, I'll admit defeat and assume thWAIT A MINUTE
Do you think you can make a request to the upvote endpoint?
I wouldn't assume CORS protections would kick in, since it's still stackexchange.com
I doubt it would work for a few reasons, but if it did, omfg that would be so funny
@RydwolfPrograms what kind of request does it make?
GET or POST?
upvote endpoint requires POST with an fkey
dammit yeah
Figured it would be fkey'd
I sure love how a single string is all you need to perform moderation actions
@RydwolfPrograms I do remember lol. I was just referring to the thing on main that the former employee (Jeremy....?) mentioned being the other thing lol
ah yeah, the thing that was the other thing
02:36
@UnrelatedString okay turns out it's bhlmst
which, coincidentally, is also today's wordle
@RydwolfPrograms I have forgotten how to speak I apologize :pensive:
@RydwolfPrograms did I miss something where spoiler are involved?
nah I'm just making a joke based on the premise that the wordle would be six random consonants :p
> 6
I only just realized bhlmst is 6 letters
after you made the wordle joke I somehow just saw it as 5 because of that ._.
02:40
i think maybe irish counts bh as one letter
@RydwolfPrograms wordle bot would be seething right now
it does not
Just one time, once, I want the wordle to be a string of random letters. A desparate, futile act of resistance against the forces of order and capitalism that hold us down, a lunge for glorious chaos in an uncaring world
I don't think Mrs Wardle would be happy with that :p
03:25
I am painstakingly recreating Wordle's exact UI for a one-off joke
here's my progress
03:57
this stupid fking fly keeps just flying circles around me
Like I'm sitting at my desk and every few seconds it just zips by me, counterclockwise
It's been doing it for days
Why did I not buy that blowtorch when it was on sale
04:14
big: 160x160 square, larger dimension cropped
huge: dimensions capped at 1024?
large: capped at 640...?
medium: WIDTH capped at 320 (height can be larger)
small: 90x90 square
tiny: capped at 160
wth that's so inconsistent
04:39
how long has the split table button been there in word and why has it never shown itself until today despite the fact I've needed it many times before.
oh my god I'm so stupid I've been misreading "Jul 06" as "Jun 06" for months and I almost just showed up tomorrow for a concert a month early 💀
resisting the urge to swap Jul and Jun in that message rn
wdym?
oh lol
It would be a massive amount of tiny trolling
ngl thought the backtick on the tidle key was a speck of dust on the key
try to clean it off until realising "that's not dust that's the backtick I should know that of all people"
04:59
I love when programs with a simple binary tree control flow graph allow for 100% statement coverage to imply 100% branch coverage
makes me happy
05:36
@DLosc When it works, it's low effort. But on my current PC the graphics driver kept crashing on windows and there is just no way to debug it. It comes back up after a couple seconds but then often it messes up the screen resolutions, and it will also often crash full screen applications. Linux has no such problems

@lyxal nice spellcheck

@RydwolfPrograms couldn't you ctrl+s the webpage then strip out things? i feel like that would be simpler.
08:29
If Earth was at one end of a football field, and Venus were at the other end, Venus would be about 5mm. So when you look up at the sky and see Venus, it's about the size of a #2 pencil's eraser at a distance of a hundred meters
@Themoonisacheese it's all super minified, which makes things annoying. I didn't think about using Ctrl+S tho
i feel the pain, though beautifiers have become a lot better.
i feel like if the goal was only to have a wordle you could realistically either find an open source version or do that on an archived copy from before NYT, but obviously it wouldn't be the same look so that kinda defeats the puyyrpose
08:45
@RydwolfPrograms I feel like this tells me more about how big I should expect a #2 pencil's eraser to look at a distance of a hundred meters than it tells me about Venus
@RydwolfPrograms in other words, Venus just barely has a size, rather than being a point.
this just in: Venus is a 0-dimensional object
@RydwolfPrograms you could also just download one of the many open source wordle clones and modify it
There's some that look pretty similar to NYT
@Themoonisacheese no dimensions? insert megamind meme.jpg here
09:44
I just ran 4.2 miles
At 3 AM
I'm out of shape smh, had to do it in three chunks

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

MarkPlease leave a comment if you find anything unclear, or any feedback whatsoever 🖤 You are given an array of Strings. Your task is to find the characters that are present in every string, and return them as an array, in any order. There may be duplicates. Example: Input: "cattle", "throttle", "r...

11:33
@SandboxPosts wow, looks like we never had a multiset union challenge
I thought this'd be a variation of that one but apparently it doesn't exist
11:45
@RubenVerg That's actually intersection. ∩⍦/ or ⊃∩⍦/ in NARS2000.
yeah sorry I was thinking intersection
but do we have either?
12:00
@RubenVerg Dyalog has and but no multi-set version.
There's dfns.bags as a model for NARS2000's (with slightly less valid operands).
Not just multiset intersection, but ordered multiset intersection I misread the post
12:17
@Adám oh, not as in "does Dyalog have the functions" but as in "does code golf have the challenges"
@Adám yeah. my planned solution was to use bags

Q: Looping counter

None1The looping counter is a challenge that prints infinite number of lines. The first line has one *, the next line has one more * than this line, an example output is: * ** *** **** ***** ****** ******* ... (goes forever) This is code-golf, so code in the fewest bytes. Your output can be in any pl...

@RydwolfPrograms throwback to Schrödinger's Uno
@RydwolfPrograms Based on my experience, Windows 11 can't be run for extended periods of time without a reboot on anything less than 32 GB
With Windows 10 I used to go months between reboots
After a month or so on Windows 11, a bunch of random services are collectively using like 15GB, and I only have 16 available, so I get like 9GB allocated to my swap file
y'all are rebooting? :p
I actually just did because my computer started lagging so bad it took several seconds to open the start menu
@NewPosts duplicate of count up forever right?
i don't think using unary is really in the spirit of the challenge if your language is capable of better math. it might be allowed but it feels like a cheap trick
13:26
I don't think so, just golf potential
for example plenty of turing complete languages are capable of doing it in decimal but would instead do it in unary because it makes more sense
sure
still don't think it counts as a dupe seeing as most of the answers on count up forever are not actually counting in unary
in fact i think in most languages doing it in unary would actually be longer
It's a duplicate because any solution to "Looping counter" is a solution to "count up forever"
and any solution to "count up forever" can be trivially modified to be a solution to "looping counter"
just got closed

@Bbrk24 how did you stop Windows Update from making you reboot?
it hasn't been making me reboot for a while and i have no idea how or why
it rebooted this pc last night because I'd forgotten I'd told it to when it nagged me last week

Q: Is this a valid PZN?

Ciaran_McCarthyIs this a valid PZN? A Pharmazentralnummer, or PZN, is an eight-digit code which uniquely identifies medications, medical products, and similar items in the German healthcare system. Examples include ibuprofen tablets, insulin injectors, toothpaste, warm-and-cold compresses, all sorts of things. ...

17:50
@Bbrk24 I shut down then later boot my computer every day. Is this some kind of cloud environment or why do I not get how reboots are such a big deal? I guess it's the factoid "system consumes more ram the longer it runs" that doesn't intuitively make sense and I don't know anything about?
@hyper-neutrino osu!lazer does well enough on linux for me? I haven't actually crosstested yet
18:12
hmm, maybe it's just a skill issue on my part then
it doesn't lag it just feels off for some reason but that could either be a) me not having played much lazer on windows, maybe it feels the same there b) maybe I'm just bad
some games like ember knights I recall feeling slightly better on windows?? but I actually don't remember
@jan I mean, if you have memory leaks, then it does matter :P (not saying windows 11 does, though IIRC the file explorer had memory leaks on first release)
18:25
@Neil It’s not nearly as incessant in 10/11 as it was in Vista/7
@jan It’s my laptop, I usually just close it and then open it again when I need it later, and only reboot it when there’s an update or when it’s slow
or when the GPU crashes
(which, so far, has only happened when I close and re-open it)
18:53
@Bbrk24 I don't remember it automatically rebooting at all prior to 10
Vista and/or 7 would give you a notification and the options were like “now”, “in 15 minutes”, and “in 4 hours”
and if you didn’t click any I think it went automatically after a minute or so?

@lyxal or possibly, what I was running from
(the wolf I released in the parking lot of his apartment complex)
20:43
apartment complex? I find it quite simple. also why would rydwolf be running from another wolf
actually that's like asking why a human would run from another human. never mind
@RydwolfPrograms server back down?
seems like it
20:58
VM is up but can't access internet
Am looking into it
ah I see what happened
I need to get the OS to stop messing with eno2
Since when it does, it removes the master br0, disconnecting it from the bridge with the VM
You should be good now
@Ginger
Yeah I think the server is connecting itself to the internet over both eno1 and eno2
yey
Wait I might not actually need two cables at all
I think having Docker installed on my old server borked a lot of the networking stuff, it now seems to all be working how I'd intuit

There are three reported arrests of Ulysses S. Grant by officers of the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia (MPD), all for speeding by horse. Grant, who led the Union Army to victory in the American Civil War, was widely known for his prowess as a horseman. The first two of the reported arrests were in 1866, when Grant was commanding general; the third is said to have occurred in 1872, when Grant was serving as the president of the United States. While of questionable historicity, the third is the best-known; if it did occur, this would make Grant the only U.S. president...
TL;DR: President Ulysses S. Grant may have been arrested for speeding while he was president. But then again, the story might be made up or exaggerated.

@NewPosts is this a duplicate? I feel like I've seen this exact task before
I think maybe I saw it in like an example of how to use APL but idk where
i think ure thinking of that one license plate one
