CMC: Given a 3x3 Tic-Tac-Toe board (as a list of lists, flat list, any reasonable input method), determine the winner or if it's a draw. You can use any 3 distinct characters for X's, O's and empty squares. There'll always be either a winner or a draw.

@lyxal is the board finished, or in the middle of a game?

2:19 AM
> there'll always be a winner or a draw
That means it's always finished

2:51 AM
@lyxal Thunno 2, 13 bytes: ṬḥçØ\Ø/ḥ€Uæḣ}
I think that works
Ṭḥ    # Concatenate with transposed
çØ\Ø/ # Get the two diagonals
ḥ€U   # Concatenate and uniquify each row/column/diagonal
æḣ} # Keep only those where the length is <= 1

@lyxal that's one of my gripes about this site. I often find myself golfing the same problem multiple times but with different IO constraints

@TheThonnu What is that GUI
why are the textareas the same color as the background and with no border

c--
I just set the .fill-width background color to #222 and it looks fine

3:50 AM
@Bbrk24 I prefer it that way
@lyxal I messed up: Thunno 2, 14 bytes: Ṭḥ$çØ\Ø/ḥ€Uæḣ}

4:21 AM
@c-- experimenting with different layouts and inputs is half the fun once you've settled on a suitable algorithm
Imo it's coming back to an already written answer and fiddling with it that keeps golfing entertaining

5:55 AM
@lyxal I imagine most of what you said would still apply with strict input requirements

Not when there's a fixed amount of bytes at the start you can never get rid of
Comparing my experiences with static/fixed input sites and here, I feel more like fiddling with programs where I don't have to worry about how I get values into a program

6:17 AM
A good question is which input formats y'all think are particularly broken?

i have been paying about no attention to this debate whatsoever but i think currying in js is one thing that's been cited

@lyxal isn't that already a main challenge?

and w.r.t. that i would argue that even if it's a no brainer to curry 99% of the time it still has the potential to be interesting
i think there are some rare cases of truly exploitative input formats but usually the community's pretty good at sniffing out what is and isn't reasonable

@Neil probably, but I'm trying out posting cmcs generated with help from chatgpt to try and bring back some of the activity this room seems to have lost
Because there used to be a lot more cmcs. And I found myself kinda missing them

I am going to pose a fastest-code challenge but I think I have to time all the code on my PC? Is that right?

@Simd i think so
or you can score by time complexity

Don’t the Mathematica people then get upset?

@Simd why?

I can’t run their code
So they are excluded

@RydwolfPrograms why would you not use the NAA flag?
@Simd i think you can also run it on tio
Mathematica is on tio

8:30 AM
I can’t compare tio timings with timings on my PC though
I don’t think people like fastest code to be run on tio

@Simd you run everything on tio

No you shouldn't use TIO for fastest code

@mousetail why not?

Q: Is TIO acceptable for fastest-code questions?

user9206I like to ask fastest-code questions. However, I don't want to run everyone's code on my PC, partly because I only have access to a slow Windows laptop at the moment and I can't imagine I could even run most code in most languages. Is it acceptable to ask people to include a TIO link in their...

@Simd For fastest code it's entirely reasonable to limit to languages that are free

I finally have a cop post on a still-open challenge that has actually survived overnight!
Although I don't know that many people who know pi to a few thousand digits and can quickly index digits in pi.
I only know 36 decimal places from memory
@noodleman you can only output using monkey and banana emojis
same with input
and your code can only contain the same symbols
and your explanations and tet in answers can only contain the same symbols
and the language can only contain the same symbols in it's name
and the bytecount
and all the challenges
and you can only chat using those emojis or your message will get flagged and deleted
and you can only have profile pictures and usernames with those emojis

8:52 AM
🐵 🍌

everywhere has to either be a monkey or a banana emoji

@PlaceReporter99 binary where 0 = monkey 1 = banana?

🐒🙈🙉🙊🐵🍌
@RubenVerg there are actually 6 emojis

the way tio shares resources timing can be really inconsistent, plus the 60 second time limit makes it hard to get more accurate results by running longer/larger

monkey seximal

8:53 AM
@PlaceReporter99 that sends it to LQP review, which is less effective than mod flagging it

@RubenVerg no it's monkey heximal

Because you need a certain number (5?) of delete reviews before it's deleted in LQP
Whereas a mod can just instantly delete it

sorry, I meant

@PlaceReporter99 Input is 161, will post an answer later

All very amusing, but let's keep the monkeying around to a minimum.

8:56 AM
@RubenVerg what happened to 🐒🙈🙉🙊

What's with all this monkey business?
You lot going bananas?

@lyxal you have to speak using only monkey and banana emojis. Flagged.

You fool - I handle the flags! :p

Q: Print all Polynomials

bsoelchThe set of all polynomials with integer coefficients is countable. This means that there is a sequence that contains each polynomial with integer coefficients exactly once. Your goal is it to write a function or program that outputs such a sequence. Example (you may use another sequence): // list...

@Adám that needs a pin

Nah, most people are used to them, so for them, it'd be taking up precious space. Maybe we should add it to the room description, though.

@Adám the new user post might be more suitable - it includes a link to the abbreviations page and more helpful new user info

The voting guidance in that post may need updating

1:16 PM
@Adám I’ve added SEDE to it.

2:55 PM
@PlaceReporter99 Because NAA sends the post to the Low Quality Posts queue, where people have two options: "Looks OK" or "Recommend Deletion". Neither of those is the right response; invalid answers are supposed to be handled with comments and only deletion after a certain time has passed. If an invalid answer ends up in the queues, unless someone takes the time to flag down a mod to do it properly, it'll just end up either Looks OK'd out of the queue, or unwelcomingly deleted by reviewers.
(IMO NAA/VLQ/LQP is a really poorly done part of SE's system. The flags lack good usage guidance and are basically meaningless, the LQP queue lacks good reviewing guidance and the canned comments are dumb, and the deletion-from-review feature seems poorly done)

Q: Compute chromatic number of special graphs

SimdThis challenge is about computing the chromatic number of special types of graphs. Input The input will consist of two integers. A positive integer \$n > 1\$. A distance \$d \leq n\$. Task The two inputs values will define a graph with \$2^n\$ nodes. Each node corresponds to a different binary ...

c--
are any of those graphs disconnected?
it looks like 3,2 is
finding the number of connected components given n and d might be an interesting challenge, there's probably a formula for that as well

4:49 PM
posted my first challenge for a while
@c-- Are you sure 3,2 is disconnected?
@c-- every node is connected to 3 other nodes. It is connected I believe

c--
5:07 PM
@Simd I see 2 components: [000, 011, 110, 101] and [111, 001, 010, 100]

@c-- you are right

c--
I need a refresher on graph theory before I can answer your challenge though, otherwise I'd be bruteforcing my way through it, which is probably not ideal

@c-- I look forward to your answer!
what language would you use?

c--
C++

cool
not tempted by rust?

c--
5:18 PM
it doesn't give me as much control over memory management as I would like

interesting. I didn't know that about rust

c--
it's mostly a skill issue on my part, as I struggle with lifetimes

6:21 PM
how can I find my public IP address from the command line?
dig +short myip.opendns.com @resolver1.opendns.com apparently but it is very long!

@Simd Does ipconfig not work?

can you get it to just return the ip address?

@Simd why do you need that? CGCC challenge?

I am using a vpn but it doesn't seem to be giving me a new ip address
and I like to do everything as golfy as possible :)

@Simd sorry to state the obvious, but have you checked that it’s on?

6:28 PM
@PlaceReporter99 that the vpn is on?

@Simd yes, exactly that.

it is but I am not sure it is working

c--
@Simd are the graphs strongly regular?

@c-- hmmm
I don't know

c--
I would guess they are, but I haven't formalised it

6:38 PM
can you test that for small graphs?
it does seem likely
(now I have looked up the definition :) )

c--
@Simd I'd rather prove it

@c-- yes. The proof might be clearer if you check for small cases I was thinking

c--
it doesn't seem too difficult

8,4 is the first value hard to compute
I will pleased when someone manages to do it

@Simd IP config only gives you your local IP inside the network

6:43 PM
@mousetail ah yes. I can't work out why I don't get a new ip address with the vpn
I mean when I google "what is my ip"

c--
they're not

@c-- sorry I didn't understand

There's APIs for that

@mousetail I am running F5 VPN

I mean there are APIs that tell you your public IP

6:44 PM
ah ok. I think google works too

Unfortunately it lives in the router so there is no standard way to get it without using the internet
If your router has an API that could work

actually dig +short myip.opendns.com @resolver1.opendns.com does it

That's a terrible abuse of the DNS protocol but it works I guess

:)
I still don't understand why my vpn is not vpn'ing

c--
@Simd for (3,1) 000 and 111 have no common neighbors, while 000 and 011 have 2, and neither of them are adjacent

6:46 PM
ah ok

c--
but there's still plenty of symmetry to exploit

that is cool

c--
for example, all graphs of the form n,2k have 2 components, because you can split them in components where vertices have an even or odd popcount
that should cut the work in half for those if you're brute forcing
at least 2, I'm not sure if they could have more
it doesn't look like they can have more than 2 though

7:10 PM
This is a good observation

c--
this seems trivial then

@c-- cool
Looking better for 8,4

c--
yeah, that's what I was thinking

@mousetail a vpn should still give you a new ip though

7:36 PM
@Neil it's a "split tunnel mode" annoyingly that only tunnels traffic to work

Q: Simulate Keyboard Inputs

Jacob CreutzfeldtBackground You know how in text editors and just text fields in general, there's always that blinking bar where you type? Yeah, simulate typing there. You'll be given 3 inputs: The current text field, the position of the cursor, and the input sequence. Here's an example: Hello, World! 5 [U];[U];[...

1 hour later…
9:09 PM
@c-- 8,4 wasn't too hard. Working on 8,6 now

c--
cool

@c-- I am looking forward to people's non brute force solutions!
I am not doing anything clever

c--
9:28 PM
this would be much easier if I knew anything about graph theory, but I would imagine there's closed forms for their chromatic polynomials as the class of graphs seems very simple

1 hour later…
c--
10:31 PM
@Simd also, all graphs of the form n,(2k-1) are bipartite, with a set for the vertices with even popcount and one for those with odd, so they can always be two-colored
because you can't have an edge between two vertices with even popcount (it would mean d is even)

Q: Tic Tac Toe encoder/decoder
