@Ginger worked first try
in Sandbox, 1 min ago, by Seggan
Hello, world!
nothing ever works first try
Is GNU C++ compiler bootstrapped?
It is.
00:31
How long should it take to multiple a uint64 by a float64 on a standard x86 pc?
@Ginger any idea why only the first message gets sent
i cleared cookies, left the room, nothin
01:24
nvm fixed it had a 404

5 hours later…
06:23
@DannyuNDos It's recognized by the majority of countries now, not really a "unrecognized state" anymore

1 hour later…
07:35
@Simd do you mean how long should it take to cast a uint64 to float64 and then multiply it by another float64? apparently some processors are optimised for float64 multiply and can do it more quickly than int64 multiply. technically simd can perform four float multiplies in a single cpu cycle under optimal conditions.

@Ginger what is fkey?
@Neil yes. I am really asking as it seems to take 40ns in my numba code which is much slower than I was expecting
I have Ryzen 5 3400G 3.7GHz 4 Core
10:28
I feel it would be 3 cycles at worst
Which is about a nanosecond. Is that wrong?
I'm unfamiliar with numba so I can't really comment on anything specific sorry
11:01
No problem
I was not asking what it would be in C as it did
I was not asking what it would be in C as it should be as fast as that
11:31
@mousetail why do you ask?
I figured it out already
also I guess I'm not working on that chat client for a while, all its code was on Rydwolf's server which is now down
Maybe that will allow Seggan to catch up
Gonna be tight
You have a good headstart
11:36
not really lol
the client can't even send messages yet
it's just a fancy message downloader rn
That's like 50% of the task
Sending messages is the easy part, no need to deal with oneboxes and formatting and grouping messages and loading profile pictures etc.
but I'm not dealing with any of those yet!
it's just displaying the raw HTML

Slightly cursed language design idea: function calls looks almost the same as function definition headers except for one character
// Fibonacci

function f(n) =
  n = 0 => 1
  n = 1 => 1
  n = n => function f(n)! + function f(n)!

// Factorial

function F(N) =
  n = 0 => 1
  n = n => function F(N-1)!
Something like that
13:39
window.stop();

const head = document.createElement('head');
const body = document.createElement('body');
document.documentElement.appendChild(head);
document.documentElement.appendChild(body);
toy or production?
55% toy
Putting this in a userscript completely prevents anything on the page from loading
Blank canvas
Then I load real HTML via fetch
Parcel hot reloading even works lol
14:00
@mousetail some sort of auth thing
@Ginger I haven’t gotten to the websocket part yet, I have a message sender but not a downloader
Neither do I have a TUI
14:50
@Seggan Do you know what l is?
15:13
As I said
15:30
@lyxal The fibonacci code is an infinite loop and the factorial always returns 1
16:21
@lyxal Did you mean this:
// Fibonacci

function f(n) =
  n = 0 => 1
  n = 1 => 1
  n = n => function f(n - 1)! + function f(n - 2)!

// Factorial

function F(n) =
  n = 0 => 1
  n = n => function n * F(n-1)!

@Ginger ohhhhh fuck I didn't even think of that
yup
Yeah seeing as my modem's been smited by the god of thunder it might be a few days
indeed
also, (as I'm sure you've guessed) Vyxal Bot and Snowy are both down too
clearly you should tether your server to your phone and run everything over cellular
Of course two days after I switch you over to my fancy new ultra reliable setup that can't possibly go down my house gets hit by lightning lmao
There is a god and they are a memelord
punishment for me playing God by creating Snowy

And as I've learned from NPSP, maintaining the bot takes up a lot of time, and you never know when you'll wake up and realize you've failed the community for the last six hours because your server got hit by lightning and the bot went down
you brought this upon yourself Rydwolf

2 hours later…
19:34
@RydwolfPrograms Are the bots down, and do we need feeds to cover them for a few days?
doesn't look like it
@NewPosts STATUS
mfw
@NewPosts STATUS
Rip :/
it's still up
if it were down it'd've left the room by now

4 hours later…

If y’all rustaceans wanna take a look at my chat client code, it’s here: github.com/Seggan/lightchat
Mobile being mobile
@TheThonnu probably :p

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

NeilSort int64 with float64 values Your challenge is to create the following total ordering of int64 and float64 values: Apart from -0.0 which sorts before 0.0, two values of the same type sort according to which one is less than the other. Where two values of different types are exactly equal, the ...

@cairdcoinheringaahing I suppose that answers that question, then
