@Neil well yes.
That's why I posted it here.
i thought the typo was from in sight
and therefore completely missed the joke
Wait now you've got me questioning whether it's supposed to be on site or in sight

You don't know which it is until you ask the author

@Neil I have, but it was faster to boot Windows and open Photoshop than to install it and remember how to use it

07:21
does a simplified piet interpreter challenge sound interesting, or would it be too similar to other stack based challenges?
@pxeger ok
@AidenChow Sounds fine, assuming you keep the routing part (which is the interesting part imo)
Or you could ask for semi-halting problem (given a piet code, does it contain a region that the pointer can enter and halt on?)
@Bubbler yeah i was thinking of keeping the routing part, and replace the hue and lightness change stuff with just numbers or characters which represent different instructions

@Bubbler for piet challenge, how much of the routing and other piet stuff should i explain in the question body? should i just leave a link to dangermouse.net/esoteric/piet.html instead?
is it ok if i just copy paste from that website?
Well idk :P at least you can copy paste the "official spec", yeah

im having trouble deciding whether to include white/black codels in the challenge, i guess thats a question for sandbox :P
any help for the semantle? I got a 982 but all of its synonyms are nowhere near the word.
@ophact hmm 982, thats an interesting word
08:14
I found a few other top 1000s since posting that message
367 and 180
cant exactly see how thats related to the answer tbh
or im just blind lmao
did you solve it?
@ophact hehe... yeah... dying on the inside
I solved Semantle #67 in 331 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 11.51. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #43. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 24.22. semantle.novalis.org
331?!
^ those were my stats, definitely took a while
08:16
This will take a while...
@ophact if u get lucky it might not tbh
i just got really unlucky with the misleading top 100s
@AidenChow so I should disregard the top 1000s I have found so far right?
It does say the most similar word has a similarity index of 57
that's rather low
@ophact errr... yeah pretty much, they are kind of helpful in that they are somewhat related to the word, but they might do more harm than good if u dont have that many top 1000s
Those three are my only top 1000s
@ophact ohh, how many guesses so far
08:19
53
lmao i got my first top 1000 in around that many guesses
hmm
i didnt even solve the semantle legitimately at the end, just searched up synonyms
is it really that hard
@ophact more like i got really unlucky
there is a very straightforward path too, if u manage to get the right words
08:22
all right I got a 943, 100 and 99
feels like those might help a bit more...
shame there aren't enough unicode emoji squares to encode Piet
heres a "helpful" hint:

Hint: It's a word sometimes used before "fuck"
...
not helpful
also
3 hours ago, by allxy
It's a word used in mathematical contexts
yeah, so those were the hints i got when i was trying to solve it lmaoooo
well the 982 does sort of back that up
08:24
@ophact eh ig, yeah

Q: How many Sieve of Eratosthenes hits?

AZTECCOSieve of Eratosthenes is a method for finding prime numbers: take the sequence of all positive integer numbers starting from 2 then for each remaining number drop all its multiples. 2 3 x 5 x 7 x 9 x 11 x 13 x 15 x 17 x ... 2 3 _ 5 _ 7 _ x _ 11 _ 13 _ x _ 17 x ... wish someone made flack overstow but using the Nineteenth Byte's messages
then i could see a theoretical message from me
@allxy can i overwrite people's placed pixels
Yes, but be nice
give me a second i have to write a script to click every pixel
but i don't know if i know enough python
no.
for that
@allxy no to doing that, or no to me knowing enough Python for that
Both.
10:58
harsh but fair
Sorry, wasn't really paying much attention. You're decent at python, but it's the wrong tool for the job here
i think that's a JS thing, so even if i wanted to do that (i don't) i don't know JS
I solved Semantle #67 in 20 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 6.09. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #16. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 26.32. semantle.novalis.org
i got ONE word in the top 1000
and then got it somehow

also @SegFaultPlus4 when you say you can't see images here, is that because imgur (the service that hosts images on SE) is blocked or for some other reason?
I've been wondering about this for weeks now and I'm curious about why
@lyxal yes, it's blocked
are there any image hosts that are unblocked?
@lyxal i know none except imgur

The editor works
nice
@Bubbler when will you git push it
14:52
But you can't download the image or run it so it's useless now
CMP: Interpreter first or export first?
Export first
You can run it if you can export it but you can't export it if you can run it :p
Well, true :P
though exporting as PNG would take some research effort (everything is drawn in SVG right now because reasons)
Just put it on a canvas and take the image as a PNG
IIRC you can draw an <svg> onto a canvas pretty easily
Not sure if you can programmatically export a PNG from a canvas easily, but most browsers let you right click them to download as PNG
> POGN
My new image format for pogchamps
> var img = canvas.toDataURL("image/png");
Okay it's pretty easy actually
Yeah, just found that too
There might even be an equivalent method for SVGs, saving a step
15:04
The SVG doesn't give a pixel-perfect image so it'll likely confuse piet interpreters even if it can be saved directly into a raster image
so drawing on a virtual canvas is likely the way to go
Today's wordle was hard...six guesses
First time I've been worried I won't get it
@Bubbler it feels more natural to me that maybe the buttons to increase the size of the grid should pad with white instead of black?
15:25
Maybe it's personal preference but I like to keep unused spaces as black rather than white
fair enough
@lyxal weird, i can’t see it now but i can when i long press on it
I think ddg fetches it and previews that
15:40
@user for a hot second I read that as "I think dog fetches it"
thats how computers really work, theres a bunch of little dogs in there that just fetch what you tell them to
well ofc, what do you think JS's fetch() does?
15:56
@Bubbler nice, now i got a place to draw my pixel art :P

@RadvylfPrograms That's probably true. You just have to go around back to the dumpster. It's self-service. Put the card in and get a burger out.
Well he was messing around and just accidentally ordered 40 mcnuggets to the high school so I don't think he needs to do that anymore xD

20:35
suggestions for a python build tool?
20:46
kinda feel like gradle because im used to it already
What's a build tool again
scripts for dependency management, building, ci, stuff like that
bash works pretty good ime :p
Although the most professional packagey sorta thing I've made is like...a JS library so I don't exactly have opinions on dependency management and ci that are worth listening to lel
^ lol
I try to avoid unnecessary dependencies as well
@RadvylfPrograms guess its requirements.txt the lol
21:01
Is gradle just a general purpose thing? I thought it was Java-specific (prolly just 'cause that's the only context I've seen it used)
mostly java/jvm, but yes it is general purpose
Just came across a video making fun of vim users:
I get a lot of arguments vim users make, but I just don't get why they put so much emphasis on navigating code more efficiently. I don't navigate code, I write code, and any editor that sacrifices writing code for navigating code is doing it wrong IMO.

Whoa did someone just make a rainbowing script
today i had an idea: what if there was a language that was written in sound. the audio would have the fourier transform applied to it, and each frequency would be a stack. the amplitude at a certain spot would determine the operation on that stack
I think there's a few based on the pitches of musical notes but not aware of any truly sound-based ones yet. Could be cool.
hello world: *horrible screeching*

if it was done right, hello world would just be the sound of someone saying "hello world"
23:52
@RadvylfPrograms if you're talking about the bottom left there's one spot that's missing a bright-yellow band :P
No, there was a whole rainbow striped area by the kirby that appeared instantly
I helped construct the big rainbow striped area in the bottom left, it was done painfully manually
oh huh
i never saw the kirby rainbow zone disappear in the first place so there may have been a bug on your client somehow
