@Niko I'm pretty sure we've established religions around specific users before - they generally die out fairly quickly
lyxal god has already been inside my very mind the moment i joined tnb
00:41
@GingerIndustries very snazzy. I like it. but also see ^
I got myself kicked from campfire
no, it's up
it just shows Connecting... for me
i have returned
hmmm
it seems lyxal has cursed campfire

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

NeilVery simple auto battler There are two players. Each player has a team of between 0 and 5 members. Each member has two relevant statistics: an attack score and a health score. These range from 1 to 50. Until at least one team runs out of members, you need to battle the lead member of each team ag...

@Wezl-yizl i can't even connect rn
oh it's just Connecting... for me too now that I reloaded
00:51
one sec
i have turned it off and on again

did you see my message
it still say connecting... for me

Camp fire doesn't work in tor
And it doesn't render amogus copypasta properly either
01:24
hai
can i post the challenge triangle triplers?
@DialFrost oh hi DialFrost I searched in chat history and found out that your pfp actually means something
I play chess
haha lol
u use lichess?
preferably yes but tl;dr I am prevented through no choice of my own from accessing it
plainchess.timwoelfle.de is a nice site (can't play a random player though)
I've a mind to fork it to try out various modifications to chess rules
01:31
ah ic
ru good at chess?
yes compared to people who don't know chess. no to people who play professionally. no to anyone who's played for maybe a year
how about I show you more specifically :P
02:07
What an oddly specific set of talents this person must have
esolang idea: in a program, the first line will almost always be import non_printable as np np. because you need to import everything you use in the language and newlines (needed for multiple lines ofc) are in the non_printable module ::D
5
everything else in the language can be derived from that
02:24
Reminds me of how you can unload the parser or something in Factor
02:45
@taRadvylfsriksushilani whatcha mean
Systems programming and singing like a lobster
also must have a lot of free time :P
03:00
@pxeger Me when DSO is smaller than any of those
@taRadvylfsriksushilani Can you make it so you can turn and move at the same time
No
They use tank steering
Okay
@pxeger How is oK 5MB? The version I use is 40kb
shall i post my triangular tripler challenge?
its in sandbox currently
anone?
let me see
@DialFrost codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/171516/… is the only similar thing i can find
the other one is sierpinski order 2 which is more complicated so eh
what do you mean by auto trimming?
i'm sure leading whitespace is not removed..

Q: Find my Māori pronouns

emanresu AThe Māori language has quite simple pronouns. It uses a single word for he/she/they/etc (ia), and the words for "you" and "me" are koe and au respectively. There are also words for groups of two or more people: tāua - You and me (we, au and koe) māua - Me and them (we, au and ia) rāua - Them (th...

03:18
@Razetime check it now
also when you ask for help on a sandbox question please link it
@DialFrost is the . really necessary
i don't mind it but it's not very usual on ascii-art challenges
rly?
it makes it harder
That's razetime's point
It's an unnecessary obstruction
Think about it this way: Would the task be any less interesting without it?
03:24
it will be quite interesting how people handle the first char
I'd ask @Neil 's opinion on this
@Razetime Nope, not at all.
With the triangle itself, there's a number of different approaches. You could generate a single triangle and stack it on top of two copies, you could print it character-by-character based on x and y positions, you could make a large triangle and remove a smaller one, etc.
yeah and along with those methods come their own ways of handling the dot
With the added dot, everyone's approach is going to be along the lines of 'generate triangle, add a few bytes to prepend dot'
03:29
not necessarily
Well, we did it
RTO is back in business
Good job
Also what happens if I send a request to OISB with constructor as the language?
@taRadvylfsriksushilani Java doesn't work
Nothing works rn
WS issues
gonna do a reboot
Oh
03:55
In otehr news, Buggy tetris is now less buggy
Don't ask me how I've done Tetris with 60° rotation
I don't know, I was trying to do 90°
@emanresuA i cant play on mobile :(
@emanresuA radians vs degrees?
@PyGamer0 One moment...
@PyGamer0 Added mobile support! Tap near the top/bottom/left/right edges of the canvas.
@emanresuA wow this rotation is so cursed I love it
@emanresuA do not fix the rotation lol
its fine as it is
oblique tetris
^ call it that
04:11
Ok lol
My highscore's 290 btw
so its playable
@emanresuA mine is 40
It's probably harder on mobile
04:27
RTO is not back in business
Our attempt to fix things made it worse and we're back to square one
@taRadvylfsriksushilani soo a RTO rewrite?
Well, the sandboxing at least
04:44
What happened?
(If you have any idea)
Well, we were using a tool called gVisor to sandbox our containers. But it has some compatibility issues; that's what was causing the weird error message with every Java program, and preventing Haskell from being added, and delaying C/C++ for hours.
So, we've been trying to replace it for the last 24 hours.
We finally found something that looked like it would work, Kata Containers.
But they broke a significant part of the container manager.
I had to kill my test Python script using ps -ax and sudo kill
The thing with RTO/OISB is that it has somewhat conflicting goals, that are difficult to fulfill: it needs to be securely sandboxed, but also capable of handling user-submitted languages in an easy-to-work-with format
OCI containers are the obvious choice, but it's apparently shockingly hard to figure out a way to securely sandbox an OCI container without interfering with various programs
You could look at how riju / ATO / TIO handle sandboxing
Yeah. I've looked into it a bit.
The problem is, we also need to be able to support user-submitted languages, which rules some of those out
TBH I don't really understand sandboxing
Anyway, I've started up the gVisor one again for now, I'm too burnt out on messing with sandboxing to mess with it rn
04:53
And it's ~midnight
Still an hour to go
But yeah, still too late to be doing this stuff
05:17
@emanresuA its like Sandbox on CGCC :p
05:31
And, SO's down?
Duh, SO runs on RTO
6
> Uncaught (in promise) CompileError: wasm validation error: at offset 4: failed to match magic number
magic number
Can they at least say checksum or something
I think it's just a hardcoded constant, not a checksum
Hmm okay
Would someone mind running this code in their browser console and seeing what happens?
05:48
does anyone know why i have to take out and put back the vga cable atleast twice every time i turn on my computer so that the monitor turns on?
cause its very annoying
and rn its refusing to turn on lol
Most likely either the cable or the monitor is broken (or both)
(oh btw i use a hdmi to vga adapter)
It only adds another possibility of broken things
its probably the adapter
because the previous adapter broke then this problem happened with the new one
ok now i am at (not my) computer
Was backup for a moment , now down again
06:34
@emanresuA the purple piece is so good in that
it can literally be a s, z, or o piece just by turning it
bruh i literally tried to setup a tspin triple subconsciously, but then realized too late that pieces dont turn the same way as in regular tetris
also could u implement a 7-bag
that would help a lot
07:44
@AidenChow I've realised that purple and blue are objectively the same
Also, what's a 7-bag?
@emanresuA every 7 pieces you get a permutation of the 7 possible tetrominos, LJIOSZT
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Could do that
it makes it easier, because you know you will always get, for example, an I piece within 7 pieces
instead of completely random, where you could go on for a long time without an I piece
7-bag is what many "modern" tetris games implement as their piece randomizer. older versions of tetris dont use 7-bag
Ok, give me a few minutes
Added!
08:05
uh it still isnt 7-bag for me
The first one is just random but the rest is 7bag
i got two J pieces with 4 pieces
(Because reasons)
ohh ok
interesting choice but I guess that works
@emanresuA wait do you mean that the first 7 pieces are randomized, then it starts doing 7-bag after that?
First piece is randomised then it 7-bags after that
08:11
oh ok
why randomize just the first piece?
There's a buffer of pieces which the piece ids are taken from, and when emptied it fills with a permutation of the pieces.
'cos of the way it starts up, the first piece can't be taken from the buffer
08:38
CMQ: Which is more useful: first n fibonacci numbers, or nth fibonacci numbers?
worth noting it's very easy to get one from the other
but that aside... good question
uhhhh i guess i would have to go with first n, cause i can quickly use that to find the (n+1)th fibonacci number
@UnrelatedString hm then ill add only one of them as a diagraph
Why is it that my question (codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/242581/…) got 12 upvotes but no answers? is my challenge not interesting enough? or maybe there's too much text?
Just means it's hard
08:46
@emanresuA oh, that makes sense now that i think about it
TIL pomato is a cross breed of a potato and a tomato
IIRC they're poisonous
wait they're poisonous?
can't say i'm surprised
> The pomato (a portmanteau of potato and tomato) is a grafted plant that is produced by grafting together a tomato plant and a potato plant, both of which are members of the Solanum genus in the Solanaceae (nightshade) family. Cherry tomatoes grow on the vine, while white potatoes grow in the soil from the same plant.
they are produced by grafting
i thought they would breed, as in pollen transfer
08:50
Biology is hard
@PyGamer0 oh so that just means that tomatoes and potatoes can grow on the same plant?
09:09
@PyGamer0 so u can get tomatoes and potatoes from the same place
18 mins ago, by PyGamer0
yes
@emanresuA Biology is probably not 93% complete.
and by the way...
Programming: -2147483647%
@ophact let me just subtract 2% off of that
oh right
forgot
I've come to the conclusion that ngn/k is magic
Also range(4) is 'eoleof
So is range(5)
And pretty much everything afaict
09:23
@emanresuA define 'eoleof
"random something that k.wasm's returning"
ok
question
is an answer in Python 3 different to one in 3.8
Depends on the features used
In general, people usually specify specific versions when the code wouldn't work in older/newer versions
@emanresuA ok, so i can still post an answer to this
in python 3
You can post an answer to it in whatever you want
Policy allows dupe answers anyway
See the two node.js answers
09:28
o yeah
for some reason i remember @ophact having 10k rep

Q: All sequences as substrings

AnttiPMake a program that outputs a sequence of integers so that every finite sequence of positive integers is a substring (continuos subsequence) of the output. For example, the following sequence satisfies the rules: 1,1,1,2,1,1,1,1,2,2,1,3,1,1,1,1,1,1,2,1,2,1,1,3,2,1,1,3,1,4,... To see the underlyin...

09:55
@PyGamer0 It was only 2.5k
@ophact wait so you did have more rep
yes, because I deleted my account and I started again under a different name...
and then became ophact again for the sake of it
@Razetime imho it would be unnecessarily annoying
@ophact i am legit a few rep ahead of u
yes
@PyGamer0 nope
10:05
After I passed 20k I stopped caring about rep
how did you get so much rep in such a short period of time? You registered 2 days before me (my old account) but you had 5k+ by late June whereas I had 2k+
(IIRC you get analytics at 25k and your delete votes cap at 35k but I don't really care about those)
@ophact Vyxal and lots of good questions
oh yeah, the Vyxal posting spree
I remember a particularly boring Sunday afternoon when I was supposed to be doing work. Instead I went on Code Golf and saw the homepage: answered 15 mins ago by A username. answered 31 mins ago by A username. answered 1 hour ago by A username.
Tips don't count ;)
10:08
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Depends who you ask
Now I'ma get back to writing a burnination request for
why, don't want my question to have that tag?
The problem isn't the tag; it's the concept.
No (although it was because of your question that I found it), it's just really inconsistent
@wizzwizz4 As in?
and what is that? @wizzwizz4
What even is a "new year"?
10:11
@emanresuA Oh, I get what you're saying
@wizzwizz4 Do you mean how different calendar systems have different definitions of new years?
Maybe timezones as well
And “new years” is only one day after the previous year, not one year. None of it makes sense.
True...
10:14
The reason I think we should burninate it is because it's pretty much a meta-tag
I think it's not a meta tag, but it's misapplied to some questions.
It's a good tag for questions that involve a number 20xx, or that involve the string "New Year" or something.
can i post my triangle triplers?

Q: Should we get rid of [new-years]?

emanresu AThe new-years tag's description is: A new year's puzzle is any puzzle that is posted around the first day of any year that has to do with that specific year or calendars in some way. This isn't really an objective tag. Its questions include: Time-based questions usually based around years Ete...

Looks like I'm a 4-digiter now
congrats ophact!
thank you
my aim is to hit 5 digit
:)
but im quite far from it
yeah that'll take a while ;)
10:55
haha
especially considering im not that good at coding
anyone got comments on my challenge codegolf.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/2140/…
