Like, as a string?
That could actually be an interesting challenge, although it's current unobservable

TIL green ants are a thing (?)
Do you get them by putting ants on a roller coaster?

no
you just sit in nature
it's something that you're too american to understand
The green-head ant (Rhytidoponera metallica), also known as the green ant or metallic pony ant, is a species of ant that is endemic to Australia. It was described by British entomologist Frederick Smith in 1858 as a member of the genus Rhytidoponera in the subfamily Ectatomminae. These ants measure between 5 to 7 mm (0.20 to 0.28 in). The queens and workers look similar, differing only in size, with the males being the smallest. They are well known for their distinctive metallic appearance, which varies from green to purple or even reddish-violet. Among the most widespread of all insects in Australia...
they hurt real bad
trust me you don't want to be bitten by one of these sussy bakas like I was today

@PyGamer0 4, maybe 5 at first

CMP: Whens the most pain you have ever felt?

Covid vaccination pain
Absolute yikes bro

Merry Christmas TNB and happy holidays! Hope you all enjoy it as much as you can :D

@PyGamer0 SQL
Speaking of covid vaccination, I got my covid booster shot yesterday

5:18 AM
No, it's totally not 5am, and I definitely haven't been lying awake ready to ambush Santa when that rat bastard shows up, why are you asking?

@cairdcoinheringaahing laughs in Christmas is basically over
@cairdcoinheringaahing don't ambush Santa, wait till he leaves so you can start working on bribing any elfs on the shelfs to place you on the nice list next year :p

@lyxal as far as I'm concerned, the Aussies are my sworn enemies cause the Ashes is currently going g on, so nah, Christmas is still going on :P
Too much of my impressions of Australians is based on your cricket team, which is probably not good, but I refuse to change until I visit Australia as it gives me a reason to visit :P

5:36 AM
Well, now that AoC's over, and 2022 is quickly approaching, I can start on lots of new projects
RTO's going into full-time development January 1st

You can borrow my timezone then, you're just on time here :p

Caird's in the missile? Seems like a low budget spy movie, hopefully they can defuse it in time

@RedwolfPrograms Add++ looks to be LOTM for Jan, and I'm in the middle of working on v6, so fingers crossed I can do the same thing :/

@RedwolfPrograms you can't stop my html preview button on github!

The front end is going to be the hardest part for sure
I'm not the best at UI/UX or making things look nice
I should probably go now, and get a head start on that post-AoC healthy sleep schedule thing I was planning on o/

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Binary198Fizzbuzz So, we have a lot of variants on fizzbuzz, but no plain fizzbuzz question! Here, your objective is to create a program which prints the integers from 1 to 100, but if any integer is divisible by 3, print "fizz", if any integer is divisible by 5, print "buzz" and if any integer is divisib...

clearly this is "fizzbuzz" not "FizzBuzz"

oh, my bad, how could i be so unobservant :P

11:16 AM
@PyGamer0 there's a general purpose array language bot at the apl farm discord

1 hour later…
12:45 PM
@Razetime thats discord

2 hours later…
3:00 PM
@PyGamer0 I was swinging off a pullup bar once, the thing fell off, my head hit the wall behind me, and the bar somehow got in my mouth, breaking one tooth and putting a little crack in another. The worst part was afterwards, after the dentist filed down what remained pf my tooth so a crown could be put on. Sensitive as hell
Honestly haven’t felt that much pain my whole life though, I’m kind of a wimp :p

3:32 PM
@user sounds VERY painful

@PyGamer0 i have 1k rep
@Razetime parentheses

@Fmbalbuena i noticed that yesterday

@PyGamer0 yeah i know
time to post more

@Fmbalbuena so why are you telling it again
oh i know, you want to make me feel jealous /s

no
but why you don't like posting?

3:38 PM
@Fmbalbuena questions or answers?

@PyGamer0 both

questions: no ideas, answers: my 2 brain cells cant understand most questions here, or how to solve them

@PyGamer0 oh ok, if you have 2 brain cells, then answer this

@Fmbalbuena uh uh uh: python print(2), uh polygot: 2
did i do it right?

choose a lang

3:41 PM
@Fmbalbuena ?

like jelly

its a polygot of jelly, vyxal and many others

but choose one to post

i am not posting anything

why?

3:43 PM
no use lol

OK, That's fine

i found a good question though
i will answer it tmrw

5:52 PM
Should this be tagged ?
Fmbalbuena's proposed adding the , which I've voted to approve, but not sure if any other tagging should be changed
Having both and probably isn't needed

hm, not sure, cuz you're not really writing code that does something different than what it looks, you're writing code that does exactly what it looks like it does but causes other code written with it to behave incorrectly

> ... by making a subtle, hard to find "bug"
Seems close enough to me

@RedwolfPrograms please do

6:16 PM
Can't we just delete the thing or something?

i don't care much either way it's been dead for almost 11 years (and was only active for a month) and has very few views so we wouldn't lose much, but i don't see a particular reason to delete it either
in fact i'm inclined to reject the edit because it doesn't help with anything and it bumps a post that should be dead, but I'm worried I'll lock fmbalbuena out of edit suggestions again so i've approved it since it's not like the edit is bad/harmful in any way

7:20 PM
@RedwolfPrograms Hi

H¡!

Hi!

Hi!

Why?

7:35 PM
CMC: is there something special with this regex ^(?!([^])+.*\1.*\1)[?!ZZ-__==''-22+,,//{50}$]{50}$ (ECMAScript Javascript regex)

Is that...a quine?

It looks like it would be one lol

matches ^(?!([])+.*\1.*\1)[?!ZZ-__==''-22+,^,//{50}$]{50}$

Yeah that's what I meant
A regex that only matches itself

7:37 PM
no,
^(?!([])+.*\1.*\1)[?!ZZ-__==''-22+,^,//{50}$]{50}$
see the "[]" carefully

7:56 PM
Aww, so close

8:10 PM
To someone who understands Jelly: How can I make this output what this outputs?

8:21 PM
can you explain what that does
ah, gtg for a bit, if i'm back before someone else looks at it i can help but i'm bad at reading vyxal. later o/

Seems to take the product of the input (Π), make a range to that product (implicitly done by ƛ), then for each number x in that range (ƛ) it pushes the input onto the stack with ? and uses to get the indices, then adds those indices to that number x
Correct me if I'm wrong emanresu

Nope, you're fine
And your saying indices helped, so thanks!

8:36 PM
lol nice

9:19 PM
lol nice
(the equivalent of is actually J but if there aren't any falsy elements T does the same thing)

Wait nvm
lol

9:54 PM
> Minecraft's music (and the game itself) is trying to convey itself as a beautiful environment, with danger lurking and mystery to be solved with each world. But the fanbase makes it look like some generic game meant for screaming kids.
Tell me it's 2016 without telling me it's 2016 :p

Read that backwards: "6102 s'tI"
Python's string interpolation is so annoying. I can't even do f"asdf{"foo" if cond else "bar"}" without a syntax error

tbf that is a bit of an ambiguous situation

I would expect f-strings and the like to be special-cased in the parser
Scala can handle interpolated strings like that perfectly well, so it's certainly not impossible to do

10:11 PM
and there's no way they wouldn't have done that if not for the single/double quotes non-distinction
but since that does exist they just didn't bother because eh good enough

"Eh good enough" doesn't seem characteristic of Python though :(

there's been some discussion about allowing f-strings to be parsed with more advanced stuff: mail.python.org/archives/list/python-dev@python.org/thread/…

Design looks okay other than that bit (tbf I don't know much about Python)
@pxeger Nice, looks like Guido may support it himself?

Guido doesn't really have the control to do that

Dictators can do anything ;)

10:17 PM
he retired as BDFL and a Steering Council was created in place of that position

Oh ok
Hopefully people will still be influenced by him though
Btw, idk if it's just me, but I don't see any backslashes in "string `code "string2 `code2` string2" code` string" in your proposal
Dammit, markdown

oh that must be the reason for the confusion
I guess the mailing list chopped them up
email is so jank honestly

:|

10:40 PM

is this the first you have heard of it

its the first i've heard of it :P

I've seen the ad for it in the sidebar on the SMBC website, but I didn't actually bother looking into it

ah
that definitely makes more sense
i don't think i'd actually looked into it either so much as i eventually just hit that comic while browsing

10:55 PM
thank you guys for the xmas present - I'm now only 87 rep caps away from being Legendary

@user So does JS, python's f-strings don't support full expressions
And thank you!

are there limitations other than can't nest the same kind of quote and can't use backslashes
niiice

On the first day of Christmas, you guys all gave to me: a rep cap in a pear tree!

tbf JS has different delimiters
Congrats! (both of you)

On the second day of Christmas, you guys all gave to me: twenty thousand rep, and a rep cap in a pear tree!
On the third day of Christmas, you guys all gave to me: more rep than user, twenty thousand rep, and a rep cap in a pear tree!
(actually that happened a while ago, but I only noticed today)

Huh, 69 bronze badges, nice

Fun fact: in a month's time, I'll probably be 3rd on the most voting users list

Yay, I have 15k rep! I can... protect questions... yay.
Unlike then, I'm not disappointed

I've probably dropped a lot because I rarely ever visit the main site anymore :(

@user you've still have a higher rank than all the ROs and current mods lol

lol

11:06 PM
huh, my silver random tag badge is actually unique to me... I guess none of the old code golfers managed to accrue enough rep and/or answers to get it
