Announcement: flagitious (creator of golfscript) has just published a new golfing language: https://nibbles.golf/
So is OP the creator of golfscript???
> email me at [name of this lang] at golfscript.com
Seems like it
> I created Golfscript in 2007.
Well there's proof
@Fmbalbuena May I ask what the point of this room is?
@RedwolfPrograms Ooh
I'd be interested to see a language golf competition between Risky, HBL, and Nibbles if we ever have the time to start up the category
22:15
Idea: Contest where you have a week to design a golflang then you have to compete with others on ten random challenges
That sounds like a neat variant of language golf
We should really hash out some rules for lang golf and sandbox a few challenges
Ten might be a bit too few though
@NewPosts hm, my bad. the flag alert doesn't mention anywhere that the message has been edited, so i'll need to remember to account for that
or maybe it does and i'm just blind
Maybe the challenge author could pick like 20 challenges, include a hash of the list, and then at the end of the week they're announced
That way you can't, even unintentionally, optimize for them
@hyper-neutrino Popcorn SE is pretty good for stuff like this, as it shows the first message sent, ignoring edits
But yeah, I could see there being time-restricted language golf, string compression/manipulation golf, ASCII art language golf, array language language golf, and so on
22:18
Of course, it fails if the edit is the offensive stuff, but still
@RedwolfPrograms Currently working out what a FizzBuzz program in HBL will look like once I implement strings. ^^'
I should develop the concept of Risky into a language with the same structure but actually good built-in choices and more data types
And strings
@DLosc Early results suggest the answer is "way too long" :P
Maybe I'm not approaching it in the best way.
31 bytes :P
@pxeger How do strings work in tictac again?
22:27
@emanresuA string literals are «hello with auotermination or with »
but there are very few operations that run on strings
oh ATO is probably using an old version
yeah you probably shouldn't try to use tictac at all
the version on ATO uses "hello"
I think it might be possible to do fizzbuzz in?
I've got the little intro riff from Nibbles in my head now
22:48
@RedwolfPrograms I feel like it's mostly lyxal doing the advertising, and that's totally reasonable
And I'd say it's good to add a little sh*tposting to make Vyxal seem less corporate :P
As Thomas Jefferson said, a little sh*tposting now and then is a good thing :P
I should probably stop discussing this lol
@emanresuA I'm not sure there's any way to run it exactly 100 times though
well I guess you could do 1 / (100 - x) and terminate with a division by zero error
How many people are interested in learning zsh for this LYAL?
@PyGamer0 @lyxal Have you been using Wikipedia as a soapbox again? ಠ_ಠ
WP:ISNOT
@user No, actually, it was @math
@pxeger I'll be asleep for the start of LYAL, but I'll probably check it out later in the day tomorrow
22:57
@pxeger I am mildly interested because I have some time now
@pxeger I was more thinking of a list-based map approach
oh yeah, I forgot there's a range builtin
23:08
@pxeger I am interested. Not sure how much time I'll have, but hopefully at least an hour.
Can't wait for 5.0 "Massive thermite grenade vs. package thieves"
Uh oh all my cookies are expanding and combining into a big cookie
Are you baking cookies again or have browser cookies finally become sentient?
I remember there being a question on SE about whether cookies could become self-aware or sth like that :P
Baking cookies. These were supposed to be those thin crispy christmas cookies, but apparently i put too much baking soda in or something
@RedwolfPrograms maybe you should try your luck here orteil.dashnet.org/cookieclicker
@RedwolfPrograms I'm certain somebody has posted this exact message here before, but "cookie" and "cookies" are too common and I don't want to scan through 11 pages of search results
23:18
@cairdcoinheringaahing Do or do not do, there is no try. (and if you do die, I assure you all of TNB will come desecrate your grave with bowled code, so don't you dare die :P)
Huh, they're not bad
They started collapsing back down as they cooked, I probably should've left them in another minute to get crispy but I didn't want the bottoms to burn
Time to make the glaze

Q: 1 bit, 2 bits, 3 bits,

ArnauldGiven a positive integer \$n\$, your task is to find out the number of partitions \$a_1+a_2+\dots+a_k=n\$ where each \$a_j\$ has exactly \$j\$ bits set. For instance, there are \$6\$ such partitions for \$n=14\$: $$\begin{align}&14 = 1_2+110_2+111_2&(1+6+7)\\ &14 = 10_2+101_2+111_2&(2+5+7)\\ &14 ...

@RedwolfPrograms what kind of cookies ar you making?
I'm using a recipe for christmas cookies, but I made them all square and with plain white icing since I don't have any cookie cutters
They are in the shape of huge white pixels
23:34
Are you implying the white ones of all pixels have a special shape?
Well hopefully my family won't notice I used up all the powdered sugar
I didn't mean too but I added to much water to the glaze, and I didn't want the cookies looking too NSFW
23:48
@NewPosts It's very annoying when experienced challenge writers like Arnauld or Bubbler post, because its much harder to get more progress on Illuminator (edit and answer within 12 hours of each other, positive answer score) as their challenges usually don't need editing :P
"Darn it, why couldn't this challenge be worse?!" - caird, probably :P
Idk why I haven't been writing challenges recently
Feels harder than it used to be. Probably because I actually have a filter now and don't just post whatever random garbage I think of and cross my fingers it gets votes
@RedwolfPrograms now see this is where imma gon have to disagree a little: back in July, we had a discussion internally about what it was we wanted to get out of vyxal - the overwhelming opinion was that it remain fun/laid back while having some organisation. And imo that's currently what we have. I personally believe the organisational structures we have in place are reasonable for what we want to accomplish.
And on the topic of advertisement, I don't see what's wrong with wanting to spread your creation into the big wide world
Having said that, it could be time to have another discussion to see how everyone feels about the direction the language is taking
