I have a nice HP Pavilion, but I'm not sure which one it was exactly
@Bubbler But it could be used theoretically for things like viewing rickrolls and playing undertale?
undertale? doubt
@RedwolfPrograms Microsoft surface (laptop|laptop go)
I've heard good things about surface laptops. They work fine with linux dual boot, right?
@lyxal Theoretically yes, practically you'll have no chance against omega flowey
23:01
@Bubbler ofc
I would love the irony of running linux on a microsoft machine
@RedwolfPrograms idk about dual boot, but I know it runs vyxal well :p
But why would your computer need two shoes?
Looks like you can
Why would a computer need boots at all?
@RedwolfPrograms Well, you don't need to dual boot these days, there's WSL
23:03
Yuck
No
To walk, duh
WSL2's pretty nice
I haven't used it extensively, but as long as you don't want a desktop environment, it seems to be very useful
To me that just seems like a way for Windows to try to steal Linux market share
@user tell me where tf my computer is gonna walk to
I haven't had a chance to try WSL2 yet, but WSL1 is already 99% usable for me
@lyxal It needs to walk over to other computers for handshakes
23:05
@user You can VNC into WSL to get a desktop environment
WSL = Wzl's evil twin
Oh nice
@RedwolfPrograms Wait what
Are we talking about the same thing? What does WSL have to do with a user?
Because...they're spelled almost identically
Duh
23:06
Oh lol

Q: Programming Less-Than, Greater-Than and Equal-To functions using Restricted Source

Eliseo D'AnnunzioI'm currently working with a branchless language which does not have native Less-Than, Greater-Than or Equal-To functions. I do however have min, max and abs functions and standard arithmetic (+, -, / and *) available to me. I'd like to create these three functions (as L(a, b), G(a, b) and E(a, b...

@NewPosts CMP: Is this question on-topic?

sounds more like a stackoverflow question than a cgcc challenge
I think it'd make an okay tips question if the author also clarified that it was atomic golf or something
No, it's clearly meant for something like SO, but it could be made into a challenge
23:15
I don't know if it's interesting enough for a challenge
I don't think it fits well into SO
Should I remove my edit (I added the tag)?
Considering spending all of my savings from three years of birthdays + christmas plus this year's birthday and christmas gifts to get something really nice, maybe a gaming laptop
how about a waterproof coat instead
lol
23:18
I have one too, in my backpack :|
I was too stubborn to wear it
(Wouldn't have covered my backpack anyway, though.)
750 - 1500? i got my current desktop for like $1200 (and that's CAD) and it came with a monitor lol
I have uh...expensive tastes lol
For anything other than chromebooks
I spend probably 12 hours a day on my laptop so I might as well make it a nice one :p
23:22
true
Might want to leave some aside for glasses
i spend a lot of time too on my computer tho i find this one good for pretty much all my needs (including playing too many and too much video games). will definitely upgrade it in the future, but i am saving any money i get for tuition and stuff like rent or whatever when i move out
I'm only 15 years old so I can still make stupid decisions without feeling bad about them :p
without feeling bad about them yet
I'll get a job some time in the next six months
23:25
Ha, I've been making stupid decisions and feeling bad about them since I was in kindergarten, I'm so much more mature than y'all
nice
How did you find one? I've been trying to find a computer related job for a long time, but couldn't find any, and in person jobs are limited rn
idk about redwolf but I find nepotism to be surprisingly effective
I mean it's not like I've started looking or anything, but it's not like I'll be getting an actual job at like 16. I'll probably go work at some restaurant or something.
Oh ok
23:28
@RedwolfPrograms I thought you were older than that
@rak1507 o.O
@lyxal Nope, 15 and 8 months right now
Dang
Here's me thinking you were 17
@RedwolfPrograms added to the database
Dang
I just remembered how close I am to turning a year older
23:30
probably within a year
May 17 at 18:45, by user
Protip: Never tell rak1507 anything about yourself
@hyper-neutrino more like a month or so
@lyxal hey same (a few weeks over a month)
same
23:30
I've told you guys at one point or another my full name, date of birth, and location to within half an hour lol
@lyxal Happy birthday in advance (or sad birthday, whatever you prefer)
@hyper-neutrino dang that means you're marginally older than me
@user happy is good, but you're way early
@RedwolfPrograms Guess you'll just have to find a new identity now :P
@RedwolfPrograms seeing as you like sharing so much, please can I have your mothers maiden name, social security number, and the name of your first pet?
@user just trade with caird
23:31
If any of y'all would like to be me, go ahead, just make sure to keep my GPA high :p
immediately trashes redwolf's GPA
If you had good grades last quarter, I can just get B's this quarter and keep your GPA at 4.0, so sure
I honestly have no idea how my school does GPA stuff lol
Wanna swap identities? I'll throw in the 2 dollars in coins I have
I would say sure but I found out I was 2% off an A in economics so clearly I'm incompetent :P
23:33
I've got a 4.0 unweighted and a 5.2 weighted
And I'm 38th in my class
probably by averaging the points you get for your grade
Okay nvm I just found out I won't be ageing until redwolf catches up in age: chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/240?m=56716428#56716428
They've told us they do it like three different ways and I'm not sure which one it really is
@lyxal Hmm, so if you freeze Redwolf cryogenically, you'll stay immortal too
@RedwolfPrograms mean, median, mode?
immortality is overrated tbh
23:35
It might suck at the start, but eventually you'll get rich, and then you can just do whatever
@RedwolfPrograms keyboard mash jelly and enter the unweighted score into the program. The result is your weighted score
(provided humanity survives that long ig)
Does 1080p at 15.6" look pixel-y? Never used a 15.6" before.
Can't decide if QHD is worth it.
ngn
ngn
for me, monitors stopped being pixel-y at 1024x768
I mean it depends on the size though. A 24" monitor most definitely looks pixel-y at 1080p.
ngn
ngn
23:38
@RedwolfPrograms right, it also depends on the distance you're looking from
i think my monitor is 24"
looks fine at 1080p
assuming that's what 1920x1080 is
I'll save the $160 and go for FHD, it's still a bit better than my chromebook's DPI
And at 15.6 I'd be a bit farther from the screen anyway
QHD would look awesome, but maybe not $160 awesome
blind people must save a lot of money on monitors
lol
Instead they get 4k speakers
ngn
ngn
23:42
braille monitors exist
I wonder if it would be worth learning to efficiently use a screenreader so it didn't matter
@ngn do they actually? huh
cool
Anyway I gtg for now
lol this is what I got when I looked up braille monitors
Look like they're really small
Wow I just got my 81 week streak grammarly badge
nice
imagine using grammarly, i simply just make grammatical errors /s
23:51
Grammarly keeps sending me emails telling me I have 100% accuracy and stuff even though I'm not using it
@hyper-neutrino have you taken the quiz found on my profile page?
@hyper-neutrino Ha I just dont make grammar or spelling mistakes at all; deal with that,
3
@lyxal i looked at it a few days ago and decided it made no sense
the validity of a toaster cannot be decided by its outward appearance alone
@user bruh yuo'er grammer is totally unright there
@lyxal yesnot
What's the toaster validity thing supposed to mean btw?
23:54
ironically, out of the five active people on my friend's discord server, three of us are chinese and how good our english grammar is is proportional to how fluent we are in mandarin
That's interesting
@user it's an attempt at surreal humour
it's because my brother and I were bullied for bad pronunciation or grammar when we were younger since my parents aren't great with english, so we just got good and are now better than most people who grow up here speaking only english :P
I saw a study somewhere that said bilingual people (and polyglots) were slightly worse at all the languages they knew because limited capacity or something
well my vocabulary in english seems to be a bit more limited, and I also cannot read/write chinese and have a very limited vocabulary
23:56
@lyxal Oh, that makes sense, I only understand attempts at surreal humor
i can communicate fluently enough but run into issues understanding people who speak above a relatively base level (and also cannot understand tv shows at all, it's like they're speaking another language)
@hyper-neutrino lol my english used to be better before I came to the US; after I came here, I spoke so little because of my accent that I gradually just got worse at it
oof. wait what other language do you speak (assuming you do - if i interpreted your message correctly)?
(the lol wasn't directed at you and your brother being bullied, I'm really sorry you had to go through that)
lol nah, it's alright, it wasn't too bad though it did result in me bullying other people over their english grammar later on in middle school :P
23:58
@hyper-neutrino My family speaks Marathi, and I used to be fluent in Hindi but haven't really spoken it in a few years
oh, that's cool! imagine knowing 3 languages. nice
Jack of all trades, master of none :P
