Q: Convert negadecimal to decimal (and back)

Redwolf ProgramsNegadecimal, also known as base -10, is a non-standard positional numeral system. Take the number \$1337_{10}\$. In decimal, this has the value one thousand three hundred thirty seven, and can be expanded to: $$1\cdot10^3+3\cdot10^2+3\cdot10^1+7\cdot10^0$$ $$(1000)+(300)+(30)+(7)$$ In negadecimal...

@Bubbler "There are still things to be improved but this answer certainly does look like it was written to be short."

@pppery 🤔🤔🤔
what would that decliner have seen in that
aside from a lack of whitespace around some operators

12:33 AM

@pppery I don't know why that flag would have been declined. Maybe they were looking at the wrong answer?

12:47 AM
there's also the fact that there were semicolons used halfheartedly to save on indenting
but the variable names are all like 4 letters long
and the output is literally formatted

I'm using SEDE to look through all answers by users with 1 reputation. It's amazing how many non-serious-contender answers you can find that way.

1:03 AM
how hard is it to spend thirty seconds inferring community standards to realize that maybe in a competition to make code short you should take at least the most basic steps to shorten it

Kinda tempted to make an esolang called "<all languages>" so nobody can ever make a tips page for it

It may only seem amazing because I'm clearing out years worth of backlog in a matter of minutes.

mmm
and 1 rep does mean they probably posted one answer that never received any upvotes

Yes. Sometimes they received downvotes.
But I have seen non-serious-contender answers receiving lots of upvotes as well.

I've thought about flagging that several times, but never felt confident enough to do so.
There's also, on the same question, an invalid answer by a moderator.

A little fun here and there isn't that bad IMO, it's just when someone either thinks it's actually a good/valid answer or posts more than one per decade that I think shouldn't be allowed

@pppery oh crap, it's mine right?

nope, not you
try again

technically, this answer of mine is invalid since numbers aren't valid tokens in Symbolic Python

1:25 AM
Doorknob's?

yep

oh man. I see the red filter on answers and keep thinking "I wonder which of my answers that is that I deleted"
But no it ain't just mine i can see

1:46 AM
@cairdcoinheringaahing the worst part is although I want to cut it slack for the reason that got it so many upvotes it doesn't try to be short with that in mind :/

I mean, it's not exactly the worst offender on the site

what is?

they made no effort to make it the shortest Python answer with the property that it uses a funny appropriate string

It's just always struck me as ironic that the most upvoted answer is also by no means the shortest
@pppery Most the stuff we flag

2:02 AM
@RedwolfPrograms just use mathjax to distiguish it lol

Why is the "new answers to old questions" tool page so misaligned?
Like, the answer text extends beyond the white background part onto the gray background part.

4:18 AM
@Lyxal eww, weird

@JoKing is it happening for you?

yeah. looks awful

4:44 AM
Fifteen minutes to AOC, I guess I'll check it out this year

it's a blast, you'll be glad you did

Unrelated, is there a name for something similar to a Markov chain, but which also considers a finite number previous states?

One minute

5:00 AM
Go!

It's timing out for me :/

same
-_-
oh it's a 503 now
got hugged to death

Same here

we're fuckin ddosing it

More time to write code I guess

5:03 AM
i mean
have you not already written your solution to star 1

I have now :p
Back to 504

450
that's a rank not a status code
it is back up now

I got 323 on the first, and 900 something on the second. Not sure if that's good or not.

I got 538 on star 1 and 450 on star 2
Pretty good
I made like four typos in my star 2 solution so that makes it extra weird how much my rank improved lmao
i'm on voice with someone who's still on star 1

Same here, I misplaced a parenthesis on star 2
But I dropped super far

5:12 AM
i misplaced a bracket
and a colon
and another colon

I'm using JS, probably not the best for this sort of stuff :p

why not
like it's not python
but it's not c

I think we have a friendly apl competition

it's not brainfuck

so all are invited
to try and finish as many aoc questions as possibl in apl
@Bubbler will you be using Factor?
I remember you had a repository for your previous year apl solutions

5:15 AM
I guess I'm using Factor this year, since it's the one I'm currently into

kewl

Precision timing :p

(...and I fumbled with a not-so-well-documented library function, it didn't do what I expected, and I got 1000+th place in both)

How'd y'all get it so quick?

Because of course there's a builtin for combinations
in my language of choice

5:18 AM
I did a bunch of nested find and filter calls in JS, but at least it's (accidentally) well golfed

I figured I won't hit performance requirement since it's day 1 after all

Make sure y'all join the CGCC private leaderboard: 383923-1cc3bff3

It's been around for a while now

Nice, I'm in third on there!

nice
is it the same one as last year

Of course Lyxal has 69 stars

5:22 AM
yes it is

@Lyxal ima join that real quick

@RedwolfPrograms hehe lol
@RedwolfPrograms I was fourth before you joined lol

already we can see the same top 2 as last year

Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger

5:42 AM
@Lyxal I think this should be pinned for december

1 hour later…
6:57 AM
That moment when day 1 ain't worth any points anymore

that moment was after like 5 minutes

Oh I only just saw it

Huh, I've got an accepted answer with a negative score ― the lowest scoring of 4s answer to that challenge.

7:15 AM
The checkmark is correct. My answer is shortest of the 4.

2 hours later…
9:03 AM
sooo
we have a gold star
but we don't?

9:19 AM
The gold star still counts, the only thing you lose is the competition points
which I don't care much since I'm likely unavailable on weekends anyway

2:32 PM
@RedwolfPrograms not sure
lemme check the wayback machine

@RedwolfPrograms "Bountied" tab isn't there

Ohh, I guess nothing's bountied right now

@NewMainPosts Can we get some kind of IP ban or something against this guy? He's had like 5 accounts and all he does is spam offensive posts
Also, the fact that has an upvote is hella suspicious

5:07 PM
Charcoal is keeping an eye on them. Feel free to join and increase the chance of their pots being nuked before NMP sees them.

looks like it's some long-standing issue with mono (github.com/mono/mono/issues/10374), and I have no idea how to even begin working around that

5:38 PM
@Adám this is a bug

6:32 PM
global score only goes to the first 100 people to complete each star
and then score is also calculated separately for private leaderboards on the same principles

Q: Perfect radicals

AZTECCOGiven a non negative integer number n output its perfect radical. Definition A perfect radical r of a number n is the lowest integer root of n of any index (degree) i. $$r = \sqrt[i]{n}$$ In other words i is the maximum exponent such that r raised to i is n. $$n = r^i$$ Special cases For n = 1 an...

@RedwolfPrograms I thought this was Western Union:

@NewMainPosts Good thing that got posted, I was on +190 rep for the day :P

3
 ∪
∩ ∪
∩∩
 ∪∪
return (1,2) or (4,2) or both (if 1-indexed).

@Adám Why (4,2)?

4th row, 2nd column.

Oh, so it doesn't have to be in the cross shape, it's just the left-most unions?

9:42 PM
Yeah.
But actually, finding the leftmost symbol that forms a plus shape would be a really interesting challenge. For main, obvs.

I think we have something similar to that already
It's ringing a bell

@Adám Rust, 76 bytes: |l:&[&str]|l.iter().enumerate().find_map(|(i,s)|s.find('∪').map(|k|(i,k)))
68 bytes: |l:&[&str]|(0..).zip(l).find_map(|(i,s)|s.find('∪').map(|k|(i,k)))

Unless anyone objects, I'm gonna post this later tonight
