Q: Water buckets optimal solver

RGSContext The water buckets riddle or the water jugs riddle is a simple riddle that can be enunciated in a rather general form as: Given \$n > 0\$ positive integers \$a_1, a_2, \cdots, a_n\$ representing the capacities (in units of volume) of \$n\$ buckets and a positive integer \$t \leq \max(a_1...

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

a'_'Pendulum Encoding code-golf array-manipulation sorting Given an array as an input (which can be any acceptable/convenient format in your language), implement pendulum encoding. How do I do that? The current iteration index starts at 0. If the iteration index is even, append the current item ...

Is it possible to match a 2D string by another 2D string?

@dzaima thanks

(Ugh... I didn't realize that I don't know how to implement a 1D matching!)

12:27 PM
Has anyone ever done it? If not I'll post it into the Sandbox.

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

ouflakIs this a Freeman Dyson Number? Background From this Popular Mechanic article One day, in a gathering of top scientists, one of them wondered out loud whether there exists an integer that you could exactly double by moving its last digit to its front. For instance, 265 would satisfy t...

Q: wasting n-dimensional peanut butter

don brightI was scraping the last peanut butter out of the jar during the Covid19 pandemic, and wondering how much of the good stuff was left down inside the jar, inaccessible but for the most desperate scrounging with my most creatively used kitchen utensils. At some point, I would grow weary of this proc...

Q: Why are all the answers here being downvoted?

S.S. AnneI noticed that most, if not all of the answers on Vowels up, consonants down are being downvoted. I raised a mod-flag but there's only one mod and I'm guessing they're already stressed with the load of dealing with all the mod-flags and comment-flags. Some speculation as to why this is happening...

Why can you read into an array with mapfile using mapfile myarr < <(produce some output) but not pipe into it like produce_output | mapfile myarr? Example to clarify: Try it online!

@a'_' If you mean exactly matching a submatrix inside a (rectangular) matrix of chars, APL has a built-in for that. For more general patterns, SnakeEx might interest you.
