Did TIO just die?
Not on my end
I'm just getting "Probing cache output..."
uh, I think it's actually down
(@DJMcMayhem try ctrl-f5)

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Magic Octopus UrnRemoving a Letter adds a Letter Your program should output nothing when unaltered, however, when any single character is removed it should have an output length of 1. This extends to any number of characters being removed from the program, as long as there is, at minimum, a single character rema...

Something fricky is up and I can't figure out what.
Still find as far as I can tell
@EriktheOutgolfer Why would I want to post an answer for a single whitespace >_>
It's better for me now, idk what that 5 minutes was.
Neither do I. I could barely SSH into the server, but the problem seems to have solved itself.
It might have been due to me trying to write C# ;P
19:09
yeah good luck trying to annihilate the strong sandbox
User code doesn't run on the web server, so that shouldn't be possible.
@Dennis I was joking lol
well, if somebody white-hat hacked TIO, they should email privately of course, not post it in a public chat room ;)
I called the server host and asked, they said it was a cup of coffee spilling on a few wires (not really).

Friendly reminder that I am running an unofficial ballot for Best Of PPCG 2017, to see if the running vote tallies not being public knowledge has an effect on the votes: goo.gl/forms/48iIBpeDpOrEGsXN2
19:16
so that we could implement this next year if it does have an effect?
Anonymous
Well, it's kinda flawed this year, because I meant to do it before voting actually started, so I don't know how informative the results will be
Anonymous
I'm also not sure if any differences would be desirable
@Mego is the UserID field even validated on whether or not the user is actually a PPCG user?
@Mego I think I entered my user id wrong
Anonymous
@MagicOctopusUrn Not automatically. It's a weakness of Google Forms
19:18
@Mego oof, that'll have an effect for sure lol.
Anonymous
I wanted to create a custom site with validation and stuff, but I didn't have the time
My userID is -120349150.

@HeebyJeebyMan You did not

(yes, it's a necessary evil that I have to be able to see what each user votes for; no, I do not care what you vote for, and I will not share that information)
19:20
well, if there's a difference, it's most likely because of influence from total vote tallies, so they shouldn't be visible...and generally I'd prefer it if we voted on an independent voting page instead of being able to view the total tallies, it's not like we haven't ever used Google Sheets and Google Forms before

CMQ: Only the top-voted post from each category is awarded a bounty?
Anonymous
@Mr.Xcoder Correct
Ok, thanks. Wanted a confirmation of what Adm said
@Mego uh, why does it say "no vote" instead of making the questions optional?
19:24
How many bounties do we have?
Anonymous
@EriktheOutgolfer Because it was too 3 AM when I made the form
Anonymous
@HeebyJeebyMan 9, I think

Alright which of you jokers put -1
I'm counting 20
Community strikes again!

What is going to happen to the left over bounties?
Anonymous
I don't know why I try to do things like this when people are so determined to ruin it
uh, be left over I guess?
you can always put them to good use via infinite bounties :P

...very bad conversation in chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/72186/…

^ gives me an idea, somebody should write a esolang that simulates df
That would be a intresting disaster
well
is that really far from df itself?
19:42
Besides, DF is an esolang in itself. See the fact it's turing complete
yeah
but an esolang ala that mario one would be cool
True
But it'd probably be a subset
Maybe the fluid physics, minecarts, and mechanisms?
That is (or should) be a turing complete subset.
is tio down again ;-;
I was actually imagining dwarfs set to an "autolabor thing"
@totallyhuman yes
like, your code is the initial state of a df fort
I mean, you could make an esolang out of actual DF using DFHack to implement it
19:45
DFHack?
is that the modding engine thing? I don't do mods much
Memory editing and modding utility for DF
Modifies the game on the lowest level possible
ah
I've pondered if the new job manager for DF (He redid it to be smarter and more useful) is turing complete.
^ that was I was thinking
Well, i think if you can precisely control the stocks of items, it is.
19:49
the initial state would have dwarves set to specific tasks or smth, and as they do those they loop
conditionals would be based on pathfinding
(i.e. depending on the input / stockpiles, the dorf takes a diff route)
I accidentally posted a question before I finished writing it is there any way to finish writing it without deleting it
mm
No idea, @HeebyJeebyMan
I don't think so.
@HeebyJeebyMan yes just post a disclaimer "OOPS DIDN"T FINISH DON"T VOTE YET PLEASE" at the top and keep editing
Not being able to edit deleted questions seems like a pretty awful feature
depends on how long tho
@HeebyJeebyMan you can I think
is it gonna take you more than a minute or so? like 5-10?
19:51
When I click edit it tells me to undelete
It would probably take like 5 minutes, I had just started
Another thing i've been thinking about is the design for a golfing language made to be good at implementing other esolangs
then I guess edit it externally or smth
@moonheart08 ELVM but with less RAM :p
also, hey, welcome to this chatroom :D (I see you're somewhat new to pcpg)
Yeah, I would at least like to get the text I had so far, but I can't acess the markdown cause it's deleted
ELVM might be a intresting thing to try and make better
either that or a language that can modify it's own instructions
I think we know which one is more intresting.
@HeebyJeebyMan where did you post it exactly?
oh you deleted it
19:54
@HeebyJeebyMan get the rev history and raw source?
for the first rev
Can I get to the rev history? There were no edits
@moonheart08 designing/developing languages? This is a better place for that (TNB is perfectly fine but that chatroom is specifically made for language development)
19:55
mk
@Riker Oh nive! I have to keep track of that trick
yep
I find a lot of fun in designing intresting languages
you can't normaly but I copied your Q's ID number into another question's rev history link
@moonheart08 yep, even if implementing them is a pain :D
19:56
Interesting and Useful? That's a bonus.
also, lol, @HeebyJeebyMan I can edit yoru post just fine :D
But we all do know the best language ever, even then. IRP
@HeebyJeebyMan Hm, maybe if you copy-paste the source on another text box for SE posts and edit it, seeing the formatting, and then post the wanted edited source, I or somebody else might be able to apply the edit, but I guess that's kinda abuse no? (cc @Riker ^^)
or he can just undelete an edit
@moonheart08 absolutely
he risks downvotes flags and closure that way
19:59
well he edits the source somewhere else, then undelets and edits
I already have a new tab open where I'm editing it. I'll undelete and nija edit the post when I'm ready
but yeah I see what you mean (I misrread before)
@Riker Yeah only the OP can't edit the post when it's deleted. Which is really frustrating.
yeah but I highly suspect as I said before that that's abuse, since there must be an unbeknownst to me reason for you not to be able to edit the post while it's deleted
even if you "ninja-edit" after undeleting
20:01
I don't think there is any abuse
(although I don't think you would be blamed of anything, since you're not doing anything bad towards the overall quality of the site here)
i don't know why i even considered that. I pondered submitting codegolf solutions in DreamMaker language (for a old game engine called BYOND)
I hate dreammaker. It's not hard, it's just bad.
That
It's a horrible engine. I promise you.
Not even JIT, fully interpreted
(DM is, not BYOND itself)
lol
I'll look at the game in general later
20:05
If you really want an example for why it's bad, go see the largest dreammaker codebases: github.com/Baystation12/Baystation12 github.com/tgstation/tgstation
is it just me or is that wayyy too much code for something that looks simple
or is it more complicated than it looks
It's more complicated than it looks
Space Station 13 (the game those are codebases for) is huge
and slow (because it's written in DreamMaker)
@moonheart08 starred so I can remember that
looks interesting
Notable things include: Functional simulation of the station atmosphere, complex health simulation (similar to DF's), and dynamic map loading (By reimplementing the entire Dreammaker map format in Dreammaker)
(how) can i create a SE chat feed for new answers that contain a certain string
20:09
@betseg in your own chatroom?
yes
don't think you can
you'll need to make an rss feed at the least, good luckk
yes but how can i filter answers
you need an rss feed to do that, you'll have to make your own
20:11
Darn it doesn't look like you can
I wonder if the SSE instructions on x86 processors (SSE, SSE2, SSE3, and SSE4) are turing complete
as in, turing on their own
Anonymous
SE UI being busted is the norm

@totallyhuman I've been getting it all day
It drives me crazy
20:14
Ikr :/
@totallyhuman
is there any easy way to get the number of partitions of an integer, where no number in the partitions is greater than <an integer>
i.e. 8 would give [2, 2, 3], [1, 1, 2, 3], etc. but not [7,1]
@Riker recursion ftw
(I think)
hm maybe

Q: Fill in the Bracks

Heeby Jeeby ManNormal brackets ((),[],<> and {}) are nice and unambiguous, however someone thought it would be a good idea to use non bracket characters as brackets. These characters, | and ", are ambiguous. For example does """" correspond to (()) or ()() It is impossible to tell. Task Your task i...

wait, something doesn't work as it should
CMP: Character to start one-line comment in Cubically?
@MDXF A Rubik's Cube Emoji
@DJMcMayhem There isn't one
20:30
Dang
Closest thing to a Rubik's Cube character in Unicode is and it's used
How about Kaaba
@MDXF pile of poo
@Dennis ಠ_ಠ why all the emoji suggestions and why that one in particular
20:31
@flawr that works beautifully
@DJMcMayhem that works mysteriously
Have my consistent repeated pull requests and bug fixes caused you to hate my language? :(
@DJMcMayhem tbh I'm not really sure why that's an emoji but ok
I feel like I can't think of a single situation where you'd require that instead of an image
@MDXF Because comments are waste.
I think that could be said about 90% of existing Emoji's
that is true
the 'reaction' faces I get if I do think they're dumb
@Dennis But Cubically is so hard to understand
I wanted to write some production code in it :D
@DJMcMayhem techniically only the first word of that message was before
Still counts
lol
@Riker probably more efficient with memoization=)
20:34
@MDXF Horizontal tab
@AdmBorkBork Too invisible
thats_the_joke.jpg
@MDXF Relax, pulling Cubically every once in a while has been way less of a hassle than some of the production languages.
oh_my_bad.tiff
@MDXF and that's where you went way off
20:35
@Dennis I know, it was a joke :P I still feel bad because I often push without actually seeing if my code works
Oh, how about nbsp?
Aha
that would be hilarious
I'm doing it, but not a single-line comment, it will be a multiline comment
Best comment character: edirrevo LTR
20:36
@AdmBorkBork nah, zero-width space
or maybe right-to-left mark
RL2U'B2F ಠwtf does this do againಠ
@Dennis sounds Spanish
@AdmBorkBork It's the Right-To-Left override
And that is the most painful character in Unicode
But Cubically is a pain, so maybe that should be the comment character...
Just make sure that setting back to LTR end the comment.
@Christopher I just had an idea for something pain-flak-esque. Brain-flak, but there is no {...} monad. Instead, the code runs forwards and backwards until the TOS 0
>:D
20:39
Dennis: what does the RTL embedding character do?
Or actually, maybe instead to make it more usable have whatever is in {...} run forwards and backwards until the TOS 0
@AdmBorkBork I was trying to figure out why you were saying "Dennis sounds Spanish" until I realized it was a reply
And to make it even better, if it happens to go backwards on the last time through, then the rest of the code after it will be backwards
Like this:
|Push 2        | --> Decrement |
|Push 2 again  | Decrement <-- |
   (()())         {({}[()])}
(cc. @HeebyJeebyMan )
I like this idea
20:44
Are you two making BrainFlak two over there
This is a wonderfully sadistic and horrible idea, and I love it
You know you're on PPCG when Brain-Flak suddenly becomes too easy to program in...
9
You can make some loops with ({}[()](<...>){})
@HeebyJeebyMan Should anything else change?
20:45
I'm thinking this won't be TC
there are really many sadistic esolangs made by PPCG users out there...
@DJMcMayhem I'd like to give it a try first then see if anything needs to be changed
If you wrote a primality checker in whatever the hell this ends up being called, I'll give you (or anyone else) a massive bounty
Brain-Flak++? Brainier-Flak? kalF-niarB?
Strain-Flak
2
20:47
Brain-Flak, but difficult
Drain-flak: Because it drains your will to ever program again.
just so you know: flak (short for Flugabwehrkanone) is a german abbreviation for anti aircraft gun
@EriktheOutgolfer Do esolangs that can't actually be implemented without solving the halting problem count as sadistic?
So flak gun is like saying ATM machine or PIN number?
It also means anti-aircraft in English perhaps a loan word
20:49
@flawr Reminds me of The Flammen Werfer (Spoiler alert: It Werfs Flammens)
@moonheart08 uh, not in the same sense
@DJMcMayhem lol, reminds me of the "flamethrower" of the boring company
I honestly regret making HBL anyways. The examples and theoretical boolfuck conversion were awful to make
> Non-English terms for air defence include the German FlaK (FliegerabwehrKanone, "aircraft defence cannon",[5] also cited as Flugabwehrkanone), whence English flak,
I have like 15 open sandboxes... Anyone want any of them posted lol? If not I may start cleaning house.
20:52
Brain-Fork: Because stabbing your brain with a fork is less painful.
Make a JIT interpreter by hand. Surely that's a smart thing to do for a language like Brain-Flak
in The Third Stack, 57 secs ago, by Heeby Jeeby Man
Sure go ahead. I don't like programming that much.
@HeebyJeebyMan Says the user with 31K rep on a recreational coding site...
@DJMcMayhem Mostly in brainflak though
I like puzzles, some puzzles involve code.
If you think code golf is "programming" I have some bad news for you ...
