FWIW, I voted to reopen
I, uh, don't really have an opinion regarding whether that should be closed, so I left it alone
.comment-score { display: none; } in best of 2017 so i can vote without being a copycat
CMQ: Only the top-voted post from each category is awarded a bounty?
As far as I understand, yes. Though, I think we have more bounty-ers than we do awards.
@NewMetaPosts Really tempted to answer this with just "PowerShell is great and does all things" ;-)
15:21
Skype is now a snap app for Linux
I think they might be a little too late there
Skype still exists?
@J.Sallé ikr I was surprised too
I thought MS gave up on it after four years of useless updates that only made the app worse
But no, is not even maintenance patches, they're still going full on feature updates
@J.Sallé Why would you use skype when you could just use discord instead?
15:25
@DJMcMayhem My point exactly.
Discord is amazing. I use it all the time
@betseg i mostly voted for the candidate with the highest votes woah
I stopped using Skype when Razer debuted their own voip app (which was worse than skype in most aspects, btw)
Then I started using Ventrillo of all things before discord was created
@DJMcMayhem Maybe because you need to use it in a professional setting. Inviting someone important from management to your discord server... Eh.
Ehh. Fair
15:28
I think Skype for Business is actually doing relatively well.
Which is causing the extra support and features to trickle down into normal Skype
Skype for Business is going away, to be replaced with Microsoft Teams
@HeebyJeebyMan so did nick :P, we had a great time however and promoted nick's challenge on the fly hah
@DJMcMayhem [about the sandbox challenge]
Because it can be easier to assume the input is smaller than some amount.
@AdmBorkBork Oh right, SfB is Microsoft Lync, totally different code base. Forgot about that.
@user202729 But it should theoretically work for any integer.
Do you have an example?
15:33
Let's see... 0x15x123¹¹¹¹¹¹¹ for Jelly.
Its output is 15*123 zeroes. Because the source code is 15 bytes long it's a 123X quine.
@cairdcoinheringaahing Don't you mean coinheringaahing it?
but the approach only works for up to 0x15x9999999999 (exceed 32 bit int)
@user202729 OK, well that's something that I would consider not a problem (I don't mind if it doesn't work for some inputs simply because of implementation details)
That algorithm works for any size input, and it isn't abusing integer sizes
In fact, I think that approach is standard
It is. The algorithm is "prepend 0x15x, and pad to 15 characters".
It only works for numbers less than 10^10.
That's totally fine
15:36
Hey DJ i realized that pain-flak has to be TC b/c mini-flak is TC and you can use dennis' swap stack until TOS =0 trick
Then you should specify something in the challenge.
I'll add a blurb about that point
@Dennis your hello world proved that Pain-Flak is TC
thanks!
15:47
Im too lazy to write an interpreter for my lang
Also school
If a language doesn't have an interpreter, then there is no language. - PPCG rule.
Yeah I want to write one during the weekend
School has been really tough on me
@DJMcMayhem waiting for edits
@AdmBorkBork I'm torn between ಠ_ಠ and laughing :P
I already capped and was in the process of posting a challenge ;-;
15:52
@user202729 I'm busy rn, so you might be waiting for a while
@Mr.Xcoder Wait until tomorrow...
(UTC?)
Yeah UTC tomorrow is really tomorrow here :p
And yes days are counted in UTC
What is this "capping" of which you speak? ;-)
CMP: Do you often delete your post when it's quite golfy already and you only realize it may be better after having posted?
@AdmBorkBork (rep cap, probably)
@user202729 No
In that case, I'd just edit it
15:57
Also assume that you will be busy and can only edit after a while?
@user202729 (I know that, I was just joking around because I've only rep-capped once)
Me too...
Oh
@AdmBorkBork I guess it’s the Powershell effect :P
And my one rep-cap was off of a dumb answer.
Me too...
IIRC my only V answer.
15:59
Didn’t you also cap after the Jelly answer to “Is the triangle right-angled?” or something?
No. (just check my Epic badge)
@user202729 Oh really? Link?
The one with @DJMcMayhem's comment "Well, right language for the job!"
Wrong ping...
@user202729 Not on mobile! :p
I still can't find it...
16:00
better version of mazerunner
"Output language name times the number of characters" challenge.

A: Output the language name times the number of characters

user202729V, 2 bytes iV Try it online! Citing Arnauld, with Levenshtein distance of 1: I now have 15 seconds of experience in V programming. So, this may actually be golfable.

TBF I also post the 7 answer.
@flawr :O (and BTW I just watched the third part of that series)
and the /// answer.
(I just linked this as a example of a-lot-of-answers-and-dislikes challenge)
2 hours ago, by user202729
The community is contradictory. Some DV/CV the challenge, some others answer, (probably) some both.
(but then deleted, because I have an answer there)
16:04
@Mr.Xcoder was it any better than the 2nd part?
how's that?
I'd remove the commas and the colon, maybe that's -> that is
@totallyhuman I'd swap the ,s for ;s
I'd personally do something like
works fine
16:07
Looking for a programming language that's
- unique?
- difficult?
- just plain weird?
- probably won't burn your house down?
- lemon?
- will make you want to die?
@flawr Personally, I found it a bit better than The Scorch Trials, but still not too impressive
16:08
I'd make the colours of the lemons more different
- will make you regret coming to this website
@ETHproductions that'd be fine too
lemme weed out the bad suggestions
ALl of mine are gold
@Mr.Xcoder - mr.xcoder broke the chain
@Christopher - did you mean "good"?
16:09
I think he meant gold
@user202729 no... gold. Gold>good
esolangs.org doesnt have emojicode - emojicode has <1000 stars on github
conclusion: emojicode isnt an esolang
@betseg flawless logic. +1
@totallyhuman looks good, might want to move "programming" up to the first line though
which font are you using? I recognize it but for the life of me can't find it
@totallyhuman I'd move programming up a line, and change that's to that is.
@totallyhuman try Ubuntu
CMC: Figure out how to compile the output of this code and call it from C
16:12
uhhh
Actually, I can compile it into a DLL with Mathematica.
Just figure out how to use it from C
@Pavel Have the necessary W|A headers.
@totallyhuman I promise this is my last suggestion: increase the line spacing a bit so there's less blank space
16:13
@user202729 The weird thing is, it doesn't produce the fun.h file. I've checked my entire disk. Mathematica compiles it successfully anyway.
...? How? Let me check.
It's func.h, not fun.h.
If it solves your problem, StackOverflow VTC as typo.
@user202729 I tested it locally with it named fun.
Try removing it? Then?
16:15
I'm pretty sure the Mathematica C compiler just generates the header as part of the compilation process so you can't build it without Mathematica.
@totallyhuman looks good
@user202729 The building isn't the issue. I can build it into a dll. I'm trying to figure out how to get a result from it in languages that can import dlls but aren't Mathematica.
@totallyhuman I like :-)
@totallyhuman small texts looks worse but the big header looks better? ubuntu for header open sans for small texts :D
@betseg Ubunutu font best font, use it for everything
16:16
So... the "and call it from C" is the main part?
Try reading Mathematica C API.
@user202729 I'm pretty sure it's intentionally designed to keep people from doing exactly what I"m trying to do. I was just kinda hoping someone had figured it out.
@totallyhuman is it esolang or esolangs?
16:18
i dunno to be honest
yeah i see but it's kinda dumb :P

Q: 5 Day Weather Forecast

AdmBorkBork Weather forecasting: Wrong too often to rely on, right too often to ignore. Given a high and low temperature and one of four weather conditions per day, output an ASCII-art graphical five day weather forecast. The structure of the four graphical indicators are shown below. \ / -O- S...

@betseg their title is esolang
til
16:20
@totallyhuman why don't you use esolangs.org as title of the image?
after using it for years
and I'd still make the third slice darker
@NewMainPosts Again i didn't read this.
Better
16:23
@NewMainPosts Really tempted to downvote because of ºF.
the one on the behind and the one in between are too big
or the one on the front is too small i dunno
@betseg they're all the same size
@J.Sallé Just because ºF is the superior system is no reason to downvote. :p
@totallyhuman yeah but according to my brain that works in 3d and thinks in perpectives, thats not the case
it's not :P
@betseg lemme try something
16:29
are they still the same size
@AdmBorkBork s/superior/nonsensical
no
:P
lemme make it less subtle
@AdmBorkBork °K all the way!
@flawr oh god no
@totallyhuman ones on the behind look bigger and my ruler says theyre the same size
@flawr no ° in front of Kelvin
@totallyhuman front slice darker please!
@betseg is it K° then?
@totallyhuman ty
@flawr :(
@betseg °C for Celvin
@flawr Felsius*
°€
16:32
@betseg °$ in the US XD
€ looks like its between C and F
It's intended to be E.
(in Jelly, probably)
°£
@totallyhuman maybe you'll get used to it in a few years XD
@totallyhuman better contrast, but I think you could make all three darker
16:36
What's the background on the lemon slices?
@J.Sallé esolangs.org logo
Definitely limes
I think those are limes
time travel
16:37
Why does esolangs.org use limes? I have no idea.
@betseg I know, that's what I was asking. Why is it the logo?
because esolangs are sour? :P
Limes and lemons are both called lemons in Brazil btw >.>
Limes are esoteric. They're like lemons, but odder.
16:39
@Pavel fair enough
> lime (from Persian līmū, "lemon")
nice
@betseg cause when life gives you lemons, you make esolangs
Yeah. Limes are technically called 'Tahiti lemons' but no one actually calls them that. What 'muricans call lemons we call 'Sicilian lemons'
limes are called "marble lemons" in turkish because theyre the size of a marble i guess?
@betseg those are big freaking marbles you have in Turkey then hahahahah
16:43
Yeah losing your marbles is a bigger deal
Does anyone comment "next i" or something at the end of for loops?
wat
Because seeing a lot of } at the end of loops can be confusing.
Well in Python they got rid of the } entirely and it seems to be treated like a good thing
Doesn't help. Then you may get confused with sudden unindentation.
16:46
Some languages use "endif/endfor" but that's not super common
@user202729 When I've got nested loops, I do a // next i or something similar, yes.
Me too
I usually document code with comments while I'm working on it so I can track stuff down by the comments
who needs comments? just code in such a way that nobody will need to look at your code /s
Including yourself?
What if it had bugs?
Well... to prevent bugs in the first place you need comments.
"such a way" includes "no bugs"
16:55
@betseg not feasible when you're coding at 4 in the morning (or CUI)
dont code early in the morning, duh
@user202729 Write self-documenting code :P
@betseg not feasible when you work mornings/afternoons and go to college at night :p
@cairdcoinheringaahing adding to this, for(uint32_t u32indexingIntegerBetweenZeroAndNine = INTEGER_ZERO; u32indexingIntegerBetweenZeroAndNine < INTEGER_NINE; increment(u32indexingIntegerBetweenZeroAndNine, INTEGER_ONE))
@betseg Pretty sure that's almost Verbosity
17:03
Nah, that's too short for Verbosity :P
17:18
can the same answer win 2 best of 2017 catagories?
specifcally applicable to the conway clock
17:29
The PPCGv2 help wanted ad is at +10/-10
Someone really should make a better one
My Benefactor is his fan, Who am I?
@Riker Sure, why not?
@AdmBorkBork Try answering me?
@Riker Yeah, just means it's an amazing answer (which it is)
uh, I think Puzzling.SE would fit better, although not sure why was that flagged?
17:34
It's not really on-topic here
Okay, My bad.
Oh well, i did this challenge codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/154676/… in python 3 and it came out to be total of 642 bytes
now it seems a lot to me, and i am kinda confused whether to post it
That seems a little high, but I was expecting several-hundred-byte answers.
Arnauld's JavaScript answer is about what I was expecting.
The challenge is difficult to do in a shorter way
Yes, I have a habit of coming up with ASCII art challenges that require hundreds of bytes to solve.
17:44
637 bytes, should i post?
thats done in some crazy way though :p
Sure, go ahead and post it. You'll likely even get some golfing tips.
how many votes does an ad need to be shown?
tfw you're one vote behind
oh nvm
Yep
17:50
lol
Seriously, would anyone like to make a better PPCGv2 ad
i can try
got time on my hands
i can haz logo svg?
@totallyhuman In the repo: github.com/PPCG-v2
One of these comments is not like the other ... :/
17:56
jeez
Some people on the internet really can be delightful when they want to be :/
there are always gonna be haters
haters gotta hate
Except SE. On SE that gives you a weeklong suspension at least.
finally lol
@mınxomaτ rest of it looks pretty good though, take heart from that
17:58
hard to navigate big unfamiliar projects :P
@Riker That's not my project.
@totallyhuman Sorry, I can't get to GitHub right now.
got it, don't worry
@mınxomaτ ah ok

@Riker IKVM is a Java-C# interop tool
Kinda
I use it to link Tika, Drill and OpenNLP to C# apps.
@Pavel such comments should always be deleted, unless it's a site where insults are pretty much intended, some sites like SE and some forums just have some more measures against defamatory comments, which seems like a correct thing
Though the missing .NET core support is a shame. So far, no one bothered to pick up IKVM as a project.
18:19
@user202729 Edited!
While we're on the subject, does anyone have thoughts on my sandboxed post?
I'm thinking about potentially changing the scoring method. Maybe counting the length of S also
Maybe something like (idk if this is good or not, just off the top of my head): mean(len(s) for s in range(10)) ** 2 + len(source_code)
> Given a positive integer N, output an answer to the NX source-length problem [...]
Or len(source) + mean(len(s) for s in range(5))
I really have no idea
oh, HQ9+ to the rescue!
> [...] in the same language.
do you use the "∈" symbol to say "x is in set X"?
@EriktheOutgolfer I don't think that would work
18:24
oh, RIP HQ9+
@Riker I think so (the round looking weird 'E')
yeah, ∈ I think
@EriktheOutgolfer If it didn't need to be in the same language, would it just be print('Q'*n)?

Q: Latex "element of with two strokes" (⋹)

Conor O'BrienIs there a latex symbol akin to \in, but with two strokes? It has a Unicode equivalent, ⋹. I looked on detexify, but I couldn't find anything that matched. If it doesn't exist, how might I "rig" it? Edit The solutions posted do work, but I also now find the need to have a MathJax version of the...

18:25
@DJMcMayhem What? What is len(s) when s is a number
hey I recognize this avatar lol
Because each 'q' would print every 'q'
ppcg to the rescue
@DJMcMayhem of course!
@Pavel It was just dumb pseudocode (that happened to look too much like python)
I guess it would really be mean(len(solve_nx_problem(n)) for n in range(10))
18:28
@DJMcMayhem also I don't think "X" represents the source code length, maybe it's just "times"
Hmm, good point.
What's a better variable name?
Oh wait nevermind
Rather than changing the letters, just treat "X" as times
I see
Q: Should I add overloading to my new half-golfing language?
@MagicOctopusUrn It's 0 here currently, so it doesn't fit where I live, either. But /shrug, it makes a better challenge.
@cairdcoinheringaahing +1
@cairdcoinheringaahing yes, and make it somewhat usable for non-golfing things
half-golfing = half finished or semi-golfy?
18:42
semi-golfy
Wow, that question was blasted into oblivion.
In 25 seconds. Not bad.
Which one?
Dang, that was fast
18:45
In case you're wondering about it, the title was "QuickBooks Support Number I-88-833-82356"
eh no if we were wondering we'd most probably look at the revision history :P

Q: Help golfing this solution further

Bryan BoettcherWe are doing a PCG challenge at work, and I'm submitting answers in C#. This is a modification of the "M'Kay" challenge. @AdmBorkBork it was a joke ;).
Yah, I know. If it was a little earlier today or a little later tonight, I would've made people handle negative temperatures, too.
