Q: I don't think my question is a dupe

geokavelHow is Language Agnostic Code Golf! a dupe of Which language is shortest?? Sure the general ideas are the same, but the methodologies are totally different. It's a dupe because both questions involve adding up scores based on language, huh? The technical differences between the challenges are so ...

Q: Reverse a string by chunks

Rules Your program will receive a positive integer n, as well as a string s with length at least one consisting of only printable ASCII (not including whitespace). T...

All right so I need a 'split into chunks' builtin
I have a 'limit to x characters' builtin, but it discards overflow

Glad I could be of assistance.

Yep, thanks

Mr. XcoderThe cumulative deltas of my matrix Background The deltas of an array of integers is the array formed by getting the differences of consecutive elements. For example, [1, 2, 4, 7, 3, 9, 6] has the following deltas: [1, 2, 3, -4, 6, -3]. We will now define the deltas of a matrix of integers as...

News here: TiO's alexa rank is 193,585, with a staggering growth of 256,438.... Wow

@MDXF caird posted a gist

@MDXF You can try these, as ASCII-olny suggested above
@muddyfish : When the source code is 1 byte long, make the online interpreter format it as [Pyke](...), 1 byte rather than [Pyke](...), 1 bytes.

Doesn't look very legit to me
All the links are to this "taskbuks.com"
Got through Gmail's spam filter, though
Besides, I deactivated my FB account years ago

1:16 PM
@LegionMammal978 nah it's totally legit 10/10
:p

@LegionMammal978 hmm seems legit

Also, is there any shorter way in Brain-Flak to swap values between stacks than (<()>)<>{({}[()])<>({}())<>}?

What's 'facebook'?

umm, huh?

Since no one has seen my message (probably), can I have some more feedback on this?

1:24 PM
@ASCII-only That was originally made by Martin, just pointing it out.
@Mr.Xcoder Personally, it looks good to post, but I'm probably not the best judge :P

@cairdcoinheringaahing Thanks for the feedback. I would like to wait until tomorrow though, since Saturdays are (for some reason?) more inactive than Sundays.

@Mr.Xcoder People have stuff to do on Saturdays, but are bored on Sundays (at least that's why for me)

Meeeh, last two days of holiday
Wow, writing a KoTH is much harder than I thought

@icrieverytim I know you can't respond, but I really hope you change your username and picture back after the chat ban ends.
@Mr.Xcoder :P You're telling me. I have 2 challenges ready to post in the Sandbox, with the controllers being the only issue.

Yeah, I will restrict my KoTH to Python.
Are yours lang specific?

1:30 PM
@Mr.Xcoder Most KoTHs are, unless someone makes a wrapper for other languages.

Which language?
Python I suppose?

@Mr.Xcoder Definitely. I can't make Hello, World programs in any other practical language

@cairdcoinheringaahing You don't know any other language (practical)?

TBH, I kinda want someone to make a Jelly-specific KoTH

@cairdcoinheringaahing Really >.>
Then the controller will be much trickier to write

1:32 PM
@Mr.Xcoder Not at a high enough level to make a controller
@Mr.Xcoder Yep. That's the challenge :P

Oh and regarding your question yesterday. The number of languages I currently learn has changed over night

@Mr.Xcoder Brainflak as well?

No, not yet
Now the correct number is 4. Husk, 05AB1E, C (yes, that C) and Ohm.

@Mr.Xcoder Why C?

@cairdcoinheringaahing Because I realised it is better than C++ and is the only other decent language we can learn in school
Because, you know, I am sick of C++ and Pascal sucks

1:35 PM
@Mr.Xcoder Are you actually not allowed to use Python?

@cairdcoinheringaahing I am not allowed to us Python.

python is probably too easy?

There are 3 languages we can use: Pascal, C++ and C.

@EriktheOutgolfer Python is also much more powerful than most languages

actually it's implemented in c

1:36 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing Yes, but Python is written in C
Dammit ninja'd

so it can't be more powerful than c :p

yes
Nor more efficient

or what c was originally implemented in

@EriktheOutgolfer No, but its definitely easier

@cairdcoinheringaahing yeah it is

1:37 PM
@EriktheOutgolfer Assembly?

@EriktheOutgolfer Probably Assembly
Again, ninja'd

ninjas everywhere

@Mr.Xcoder Pressing the reply button makes you slower :P

@cairdcoinheringaahing Nah

@cairdcoinheringaahing pressing the reply button is the only way to reply in chrome 61 since caret reply userscript doesn't work

1:38 PM
PDP-11 assembly language, to be exact
Wait, caret reply used to work with the userscript?

it is the userscript

^ oh
It doesn't seem to work now

well you need taco script for it to work

I have the taco script... Wait, tampermonkey is.... turned off?
Now I do have it open
Auto Chat-Jax and PPCG Grad Script. Brb reinstalling the Taco userscript

1:41 PM
@Mr.Xcoder how. Is. C. Better. Than. C++

@EriktheOutgolfer can you check JHT?

just came home :p

@ASCII-only It is much better.

@Mr.Xcoder how

@ASCII-only Better syntax IMO, it is less messy... things like that.

1:42 PM
@ASCII-only it's undeniably much better

@Mr.Xcoder ... It's the same syntax

@ASCII-only No it's not entirely the same.

C is subset of C++ mostly!!

the heck did I walk in on... slowly backs out away from the arguing

@Mr.Xcoder less messy? C++ is essentially just an excursion of C
@Mr.Xcoder very very similar though

1:44 PM
Gotta go now, training Jelly
@Mr.Xcoder works?

@Mr.Xcoder O_o do you have a dog named Jelly

@ASCII-only Maybe I do?
Yay

@ASCII-only that's a reasonable name for a cat

@EriktheOutgolfer it is
yay caret reply is working

@EriktheOutgolfer good point

1:46 PM
Ping if you want to argue about C and C++

@Mr.Xcoder yes pls

@Mr.Xcoder C and C++ are old-school. all hail Python. *shot*

Hehe, wait a bit

1:47 PM
@ThomasWard I love Python and hate C-like languages, but still prefer C

so you hate Java then as much as I do.

@ThomasWard snek isn't much better :P all hail JS shot by everyone in SE chat

@ThomasWard yes.

@ThomasWard umm isn't that the name of some kind of hell?

@EriktheOutgolfer that's Malbolge :P

@ASCII-only not that hell another hell

@EriktheOutgolfer it's one of the circles of hell, yes.

Esolangs named after the other eight circles of hell
@EriktheOutgolfer but what other hell is there

iirc there are 8 hells

1:50 PM
Actually there are 9

@ASCII-only the small circle of hell where I toss malcontents into. >:D

c++, java, pascal, perl, microsoft windows, apple maps, bing, apple factories, malbolge

@ThomasWard TIL this exists
@EriktheOutgolfer *apple

yeah there are 9 hells

@HyperNeutrino how goes group theory?

well I figured out the three problems I was stuck with because I forgot what order meant :P I'm still working on the union question; I have an approach and I'm pretty sure it will work but I'm still working on it

:| need XOR in SOGL and the best I can get is 6 bytes

@HyperNeutrino what is the question?

prove that no group is the union of two proper subgroups

@HyperNeutrino I thought I already told you the answer

4:20 PM
o?
huh I maybe missed it or forgot? whoops

@HyperNeutrino oh nice

how is progress

5:13 PM

also according to lagrange's theorem, any subgroup H of a group G with finite order n has order k that divides n, and since the union of two subgroups with order k0 and k1 has at most size k0 + k1 - 1 (because e overlaps always) then the maximum size of the union of two proper subgroups is n - 1
but the problem is for groups of infinite order
@LeakyNun ^?

@HyperNeutrino oops

@EriktheOutgolfer. Thanks.

@LeakyNun but for finite groups is that correct

@HyperNeutrino yes

\o/
now for infinite groups... huh
my approach method is to prove that given a group G and a subgroup H, any subgroup J which contains at least every element of G not in H must contain all elements of G

5:26 PM
@HyperNeutrino that sounds like a good approach
lemme know when u got a proof

@HyperNeutrino anything yet?

@LeakyNun no not yet I'm working on something else rn (dumb school thingy)

I'll think about it while mowing the lawn later :P

true :P
but yeah the nice thing about Mirror as pointed out to me by Business Cat when he thought of the idea is that the cat program is one byte (,) because it inputs and then wraps back around, but the command is now output, so it prints the input and keeps looping around and doing that :P
anyway I'm going to go mow the lawn now and see if I can come up with a proof for that problem :P o/

7:27 PM
@HyperNeutrino . Does the language do strings?

@Downgoat yes just "..."
but output doesn't work exactly that way, brb fixing
also I didn't start mowing lawn yet because I forgot to do something from earlier :P

well at any rate, better than heat. :P

@cairdcoinheringaahing TIL 2EZ is a bot

@HyperNeutrino The only weather I'm used to is rain

8:12 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing lemme guess, you live in uk

@HyperNeutrino How did you know? :P

because rain :P and this:
yesterday, by caird coinheringaahing
@HyperNeutrino Is that Year 11 for UK?

I'm used to rain (obviously) and snow

<- used to rain in February and snow in April

8:13 PM
@HyperNeutrino April?!

whoa when did chat.se get a (slight) overhaul

not in the same year

@ASCII-only What do you mean?

@cairdcoinheringaahing not even exaggerating it legitimately hailed sometime between May and now
(this year)

Or maybe it's a userscript change yay @Downgoat +1

8:14 PM
@HyperNeutrino have you seen my Jelly joke generator (JHT)?

yup
0/10 not enough jokes
but 2/10 for effort
and 7/10 because they're decently funny

@HyperNeutrino Please, I didn't do anything. I took them from a website and used Lynn's compressor

oh :P

@ASCII-only :D

o wow this looks nice

8:18 PM
Can someone tell me what the difference is? I don't see any change.

go to settings, turn of "use theme in chat", reload, turn it on again, reload.

Room name font, <n> hours/days later part, fewer lines

I have been trying to find the changes for a long time and I just realized that it's been off this whole time

Ok, yeah this is much better :P
@HyperNeutrino Wait, is your interpreter on github? Please, having the entire thing on TIO is much better :P
The hyperlink alone for mine is 1690 bytes long :P

@cairdcoinheringaahing yes. no :P

8:25 PM
wait. this has already been done before
it's already on TIO as well

@ASCII-only What is?

A language that mirrors commands

@ASCII-only Do you mean Stack Cats?

@cairdcoinheringaahing No

Then what language?

8:27 PM
Oh hang on Mirror inverses commands. wat.

yup it was business cat's idea
when a command is executed, it becomes its inverse
(2d lang)
so cat is just , because input becomes output which outputs the input when the program wraps around again

@HyperNeutrino but. that's inverse not mirror...

close enough
:P

Testing new userscript font comma: , full stop: .
That's weird

8:40 PM

@Dennis @Doorknob ^
